- The officers working Operation Protect Youth, which is a joke anyway, are being ordered to follow 5 food trucks all day long to the ghetto to watch them hand out free lunches. That's 5 two man cars and a Sergeant down for 8 hours a day five days a week for the whole summer to be private security for a program initiated by Michelle Obama and her friends. My guess is it is costing taxpayers $25000 a week Couldn't these officers be used for something better? Especially if we are so short on the street.
Can anyone confirm? This isn't what the OPY Program was initially conceived to do, but then again, that program started in Chicago ever ends up being anything but a monumental waste of time, man-hours and resources?

yeah, its the "healthy" buses that stop at some of the schools. And yes, it is true. The buses are old cta busses that were donated by the city to this PRIVATE enterprise. Now the cpd is babysitting them on the taxpayer dime. So another politically connected company gets free security from the police department at all of the taxpayers expense... how about put those cars on michigan ave or at the beaches or taste to free up all of the tact teams and gang teams that are being assigned to the taste.. or just have them roam the busy districts helping out...what a joke

I did it and it's stupid beyond all reasoning. I just loved how the people handing out the food made sure to tell the kids that Auntee Michelle Obama is providing their food in attempt to buy more votes for her loser husband that couldn't lead his way out of a wet paper bag.
Just drive by and throw the food out the window.

I did it. They are not buses but blue Pepsico vans that say Food for Good on them. They go to shitty ghetto apartment buildings or areas where there might be a lot of kids, but always near an apt building. They set up a table and stay there for 20 minutes. Officers have to be there with them and have to be out of the car. Officers are given a copy of their route including when they take their 20 MINUTE LUNCH. We were told to add 5 minutes to each side of their scheduled lunch to make up the 30 minutes. Which pretty much means you're brining your lunch and eating it in the car. Its pretty dumb.
This was part of Da Mayos last goodbye 75 million dollar give away Thank You to certain voters in the city. This will surely be brought up in the future when Nora runs for mayor. 75 million and most of the food is tossed in the garbage. 75 million could have been used to hire some additional officers!!!! Da Mayo could have been the best comedian around since he is biggest JOKE in Chicago!
This is all at the behest of Chief Williams. 3:36 am mentioned Dolton. Williams is hooked up with a Dolton police officer who is close to BHO. McCarthy probably doesn't know (again). because Eugene only tells when he is deep shit. Williams is carrying water hoping to get a security job when he leaves, which we all hope is soon!!! Maybe somebody will put a bug in McCarthy's ear. Private security should be provided for this little expedition and the officers should be used for some other activity, Lakefront, Englewood, Summer school, POLICE WORK!!!!
It is true, these trucks are feeding kids and the officers are there to ensure nothing happens to them, and the volunteers. They go into high crime areas and it's better to be safe then sorry, besides it's only staffed by admin Officers and Sergeants which is a good use resources otherwise it would require district Officers to be down. Also it shows the community that CPD cares about children, hence the name "Operation Protect Youth"

ok, call me a naive dumbazz suburby-ite - - but are you telling me that a bus clearly marked and intended to help people with FOOD needs protection ? Is it that dangerous in the 'hood' that the thugs would do their mayhem next to a bus giving food to their mothers and children ? Astounded out in the burbs, and thats where I'm staying this summer, no more "Taste" or lakefront for me, I'm DONE, FORGIVE me for valuing my life and limbs, and THANKYOU for what was a great city in the PAST
Just route those buses down Michigan Ave and past North Ave beach. Two for the price of one. Problem solved.

Have you heard about "Community Watchers" funded through New Hope Treatment Program? Another program through CPD. They are all criminals and addicts. Arrest records and positive drug screens all day long.

Yes, it is true. When schools are out, this is one of the things they have you do for 8 hours. Can't have the precious house mice doing anything that might get them hurt. Like creating a school unit that is not "really" a school unit as long as you don't go in the schools but just stay outside.

Here's and idea. As long as the moron at the Board of Education wants CPS teachers to visit their ghetto students, why don't they also deliver the free food.
This would save police officers the bullshit detail and allow them back on the street where they could complete the reports needed to record the incidents of aggravated battery and robberies of the teachers.

Why are they getting these free meals when momma already gets LINK? Why do we have to feed this kids, isn't it the parent's responsibility? this is a waste of taxpayer's money.
i can see how the protect the youth people are upset at following food buses and why wouldn't they be? this cuts into their running errands time. they don't stay around the schools like they are supposed to...look for the 4500 series cars..everywhere they are not supposed to be...

FYI - OPY is not special enjoyment. It is manned by administrative people who are required to do one week of it per quarter. I know it is house mice doing it, but they fall under our contract too and it sounds like they are getting screwed. Grievance should be filed.

It's true. You do nothing. In addition to the van a POV with four additional employees follow along. This group tags along to entertain the kids with games. What I've seen is kids tossing oranges around because they don't like them. In some instances the whole lunch. Too healthy, no fried chicken. They might hand out 10-15 lunches. Sorry no cheese.
I don't even see why this made the blog. This program is available to any child between the age of 1-18 and having LINK is not a requirement. Some people do fall on hard times, have you noticed the increase in people in areas like Naperville patronizing food pantries? For those that who have worked it and are complaining, you could have always volunteered to go back to Patrol in place of some of the people who were recently sent back.
Can someone post the route for the remainder of the summer so I can be in that area and feed my kids?
maybe you can write them a littering ticket,you know they just drop everything when they be done. these peeps don't know what a garbage can is.
