That can't be right. Insurance is mandatory in IL.

Enforce the Cell Phone while driving Ordinances and accident rates will go down. Yet to see ANY CPD observe a motorist-driver tooling along while using a Cellphone and get stopped. I have, however, seen several CPD cops driving around the City while talking on cellphones. Why were our Tax Dollars wasted in passing this Legislation if it's not going to be enforced and used? So the usless thieving Shitcago Politicians can once again say they earned their overinflated salaries?
What a Complete Joke this City has become. All about hypocrisy, Clout, nepotism, and Double-Standards.

I'm not defending the idiots out there, but CPD needs to get a siren that can be heard from blocks away like CFD has......

I've had squad cars come up from behind and in intersections that you do not hear the siren or the electronic horn until they're right on top of you....

By the way, I'm white and listen to talk radio, so no blaring music to cause an issue

When the typical law abiding citizen reads this, he is thinking the cops sideswiped this guy while driving crazy to get somewhere, and wrote the citations to cover their own ass.

The sad part is it happens enough that it is what people start to think happens every time a cop is involved in anything like this.

Not a cop.

Oh, really? It happens so frequently? And you know this for a fact? Please enlighten us as to your factual source of this incriminating information. Your bias is showing.

Under the cell phone law, first responders are excluded in the course of their work. Just because you see me, on my cell, or on my DEPARTMENT ISSUED cell, maybe even smiling as I talk, does NOT mean I'm not talking to my watch commander, my office, a detective who's responding to my last case, or that I'm not making required notifications so I can get to my next assignment, or court, or a high-school dismissal detail, a bit faster.

One of you idiots yelled at me for 'being on my cell phone' last summer, as I sat in a traffic back-up. I was talking to the mother of a shaken baby, making arrangements for her to meet me and the detective at the hospital. Maybe I should have pulled over to chat with her? But maybe she wouldn't have been able to spend a minute with her child before he died, if I had. Never presume you have a CLUE what a police officer may be doing when they're on the phone.
