More of This Please

  • A rifle-wielding homeowner shot and wounded a burglar early Monday as the man scavenged through his backyard in the South Chicago neighborhood, according to police.

Responding to a call, police found the burglary suspect on the ground near 91st Street and Commercial Avenue. They followed a trail of blood back to the home where the burglary occurred, police said.

A resident in a home in the 3000 block of East 91st Street shot the man during a burglary, although it wasn’t immediately clear if the suspect took anything, police said.

  • Police are questioning the homeowner, who is not expected to face charges.
A couple hundred more shootings like this and we'll start to see reductions in crime that would give McJersey wet dreams.

Gotta love the media. Ambushed. The owner of the home 'ambushed' an intruder. That makes no sense at all. How about just saying the resident shot an intruder? Why the spin?

YES!

All law abiding citizens must join the NRA and Flex your 2nd Amendment rights of the U.S. Constitution!

The Police CANNOT and Will NOT protect your life!

The Police would rather throw their Officers under the bus for silly rule violations and political gains for Politicians and Exempt hacks!

I love this story.

However, I really do think that if citizens start shooting bangers (yes I realize this story wasn't about a banger, but a burglar), the bangers are going to start killing the citizens. I am all for guns, concealed carry, etc... But if I were somebody that shot some punk-ass kid for a legit reason, I'd be moving out of town, because I'm sure that punk-ass kid and all his banger friends would be coming back for revenge. ESPECIALLY if they know where you live.

Cong. T Johnson (r-1l 13 dist) sponsered legislation that would allow congress to pass a law that piggy backs on another law that states thatyou must allow another states conceal carry permit to be legal in Illinois.. so that Illinois residents can get cc permits from other states.

is this the guy who sed a .22 rifle?

two things to say to the homeowner....

#1 good job!

#2 next time, use a caliber meant for taking bigger game than your average pigeon or squirrel please.

something that makes big holes in bad guys, you know, something that puts them in the morgue instead of the ER.

Only in this f'd up city.

Reasonable Force Expectation rule I'd guess.

In Texas, I can shoot your ass for just to defend property, and I am legally allowed to shoot to kill. And Shoot First. Without retreat. Texas also extends Civil immunity for such cases where you shoot someone for:

The reasonable use of lethal force will be allowed if an intruder is:

- Committing certain violent crimes, such as murder or sexual assault, or is attempting to commit such crimes

- Unlawfully trying to enter a protected place

- Unlawfully trying to remove a person from a protected place.

Illinois doesn't have that wide open of a 'Self Defense' law.

You can already do that. I have a Non-resident PA carry permit that allows me to carry in about half the country, even though my home state - where I grew up and pay (enormous) taxes, does not extend me the courtesy.

Now, if you mean you can get a carry permit as a non-resident in another state, yet carry and exercise that right in Hellinois...hot damn, you are onto something!

NRA citizen member here...how is this a justified shooting? Seriously, was the shooter and/or his loved-ones in harms way? Do the words "excessive force" mean anything?

I can just see the libtards who wish to maintain the current guns laws holding up this justified shooting & the comments here as a Exhibit A why law-abiding folks should be denied the right to self defense...arguing that the right will not be exercised responsibly.

I really hope that these "high-fiving" comments are not from responsible POs...

Hey asshat, before spouting off KNOW the law of the state you live in. NOWHERE does it says you have to give a verbal warning first, or try and retreat. This is one of the few things Ill. got right, it's use of force laws.

(720 ILCS 5/7 2) (from Ch. 38, par. 7 2)
Sec. 7 2. Use of force in defense of dwelling.
(a) A person is justified in the use of force against another when and to the extent that he reasonably believes that such conduct is necessary to prevent or terminate such other's unlawful entry into or attack upon a dwelling. However, he is justified in the use of force which is intended or likely to cause death or great bodily harm only if:
(1) The entry is made or attempted in a violent, riotous, or tumultuous manner, and he reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent an assault upon, or offer of personal violence to, him or another then in the dwelling, or
(2) He reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent the commission of a felony in the dwelling.

Don't even need it to be valid at this point.

I have a Carbine that I got in Michigan in the 90's....9mm with a 7 rd magazine. Brought it into the City last week after I went hunting in the UP. Didn't need a License to buy it in Michigan when I lived there...and I don't need it to possess it here. I also don't buy ammo in Illinois.

Hmmm. Sounds to me like SCC SUPPORTS CCW for Illinois!

God Bless you man.

I got to admit, there was a homicide RIGHT OUT IN FRONT of our community services office at 63 and Albany(NOT the alderscums office) Since that day, I have been bringing my gun (locked in a case of course)to the office and either wearing it concealed(inside,on private property with land owners consent)or having it very near by my desk. I have FOID and all the rest Im required to have. Its not that Im scared as Im not. What it is is that I REFUSE to become a victim to these out of control savages.
Thank you for a positive comment about arming citizens. Maybe soon,it will become a reality in Illinois.

Hey Mr Heston,
The CFP permit grants ex post facto CASTLE DOCTRINE/STAND YOUR GROUND rights.Whereas:

If the weapon is registered(unconstitutional) to a home or fixed place of business, then that weapon may be used to protect that home or fixed place of business. The home owner merely has to tell the approaching intruder to DEPART and the intruder fails to heed the warning and continue the advance to place the home owner in reasonable apprehension of bodily harm which then JUSTIFIES the use of force reasonable to STOP the the THREAT. (If the home owner is a senior, disabled,or otherwise impared, the bar is LOWERED as to when the home owner may use reasonable force up to and including deadly force)(If the intruder approaches in a 'violent and tumultuous manner' to the point a REASONABLE person would believe they are about to receive a battery or worse, then force is justified to STOP THE THREAT)
Just so you know there Mr Heston.
