Cops & Robbers is Dangerous

Especially when you play with real guns:
  • A visit to his grandfather’s house turned into a possible life-threatening situation for a 6-year-old Sunday morning in the Morgan Park neighborhood.

Marshown Means was allegedly playing “cops and robbers” when his 13-year-old uncle accidentally shot him in his chest in the home in the 1700 block of West Steuben, according to an adult uncle, Jerome Triplett.

The shooting happened about 9:55 a.m., said police, who would not provide details of the shooting.

The two boys were playing when they found a gun owned by the grandfather and it went off, said Triplett who was told about the shooting by the victim’s mother.

Because guns just always go off by themselves and hit people. Let's just review:
  • unsupervised kids
  • find an unsecured loaded weapon
  • it goes off?

Hopefully, the child suffers no long term ill effects, but there are lessons here to be learned by all participants, not the least of which is the obvious anti-gun bias of the writer.

Did anyone see the channel 7 news report on this?

The kid's hands were blurred in the picture shown of him, since he was flashing a gang sign.

Looks like some great parenting was going on.

All guns should be secured and locked away. If you can't do this then don't have a weapon in your home. Little kids, and some big kids, think these weapons are toys. The little six year old almost died. A little common sense goes a long way.

I heard they wanted it to be true to life as it is in chicago. The "robber" in this case was shot by the "cop". The way they played it out is that the robber didnt have no gun, put up his hands and said i suurreennder! The polices, I mean the cop shot him down like a dog! I mean discharged his firearm striking the robber in the chest.. Then out of nowhere before the ambulance even got there somehow even though the robber was only 6 years old momma came runnin into the living room waiving around an 8th grade graduation photo of the robber... weird

Hurry and look at this video before Channel7 removes the photo of the 6yr-old shooting victim/ future "honor student". The photo that the family gave to the news shows the kid flashing gang signs. But, Ch7 tried to hide it by blurring the kid's hands.

I'm sure it won't be the last time we hear about someone from this family being involved in a shooting.

The Triplett family are a bunch of assholes to begin with. It's sad that a small child has to suffer for the generational stupidity of that family.

13 Y O. I call bullshit. Lil bastard rifled through gramps shit and was playing with it. He knew better the minute he found it. Unless he's a retard he also knew it was a gun not a toy. 13 give me a break. The family is covering up for the stupidity of the kid. Now jr is being taught that he is not to blame and it's someone else's fault when he fucks up. Must be the bad gun maker or every law abiding citizen that wants to own a gun that made it possible for him to find a gun. Yeah blame me And yes it's sad that he accidentally shot his brother while acting like an asshole playing with his gramps gun that he went out of his way to look for shit where he had no buisness looking.

If there are kids in a house guns need to be locked up. Kids do stupid shit.

You may also want to consider locking guns up if your wife has any anger issues.

I know of a guy who banged his then fiance's 19 year old niece a few weeks before the wedding.

A decade later wifey found out after the niece went through AA.

He was lucky not to have gotten shot.

Some woman are just not the forgiving types.

DCFS should take away children from known gang parents. By throwing up the gang sign, that child is now endangering himself to a dangerous lifestyle. No money to the parents for link, etc. Mom should also get jail time for having an illegal gun in the house.

Here is the real issue, why did the TV news pixilate( blur) the gang sign.I see a lawsuit being filed by the ACLU for damaging the child's future promotion into gang hierarchy by not showing his gang affiliation. It is this type of manipulation of news content by the media, that continues to hurt the minority community.

find an unsecured loaded weapon
