On one hand, we have this rumor:
- The capt was notified to turn himself in. His lawyer is in negotiation with dicks for the right time, so look for it to be around 3-4 am Sunday . Low profile, and in and out of the lockup. no big hoopla.
The victim officer and his teammates have been pushing hard for the arrest, harder then any another incidents I can remember.
One of the guys called every Alderman in the city for help with this justice.
All this while their C/O Buried his head in the sand and never even addressed his officers at roll call about the incident,just slipping out the back door.
Then we have this:
- The officers from 014 who witnessed the incident were questioned by IAD last night.

Heard the rumor through CFD that CFD is proceeding with disciplinary action against Altman. All CFD individuals on the scene are being required to fill out Form 2s.
I think with SCC getting this story out prevented the tiny dancer from sweeping this under the rug. The CFD member I spoke with is glad that CFD is moving forward with disciplining this asshole.
The CFD guy did explain that the CFD has zero tolerance for work place violence (which is a given) but if the violence takes place at a scene, the punishment for the offender is usually double or triple then what would have been given out if it had occurred at the fire house.
I would say this guy has lost his job and pension and his concern should now be to try to stay out of jail.

The Fire Dept has always been held in higher regard going back to King Dickey I who annointed his boyhood buddy Quinn to be their Chief. After all the Daleys had little respect for the police, who were nothing more than body servants and drivers for the King and ass wipers for his Prince!
The captian has an alcohol problem and should be forced into a program. I am sure this was not the first incident he has been involved with. There are probably lots of firemen who have bad stories about this guy. I don't excuse what he did but he needs help. I dealt with Capt Altman when he was CFD IAD (armed too)and I had to lock up a CFD FF for pulling out a gun in a bar.
Not only was he an asshole to the FF, he treated me like shit to the point where the W/C threw him out of the station.
As he was leaving, he said to the W/C "You don't know who you are fucking with, my father is the Fire Commissioner, I'll have all your asses" To which the W/C said "Go tell your daddy to call my daddy, we'll see who wins"
I never heard another word about it again.

The Miami copper was in full uniform with duty belt and all and in a marked squad car and the Bitch trooper pulled him over at gun point. I can't even believe what I saw. How thin is the blue line. I could never do that to another copper. Especially one who's driving a squad car. I'm glad our relationship with our brothers and sisters in the Illinois State Police is a good relationship. If we don't look out for each other, than who will?

As an off duty po, I often get stopped by these marine unit guys and despite providing my credentials have my craft searched and my name contact carded. These guys are a piece of work. Screw you. I was on during the strike and a lot of us got setup by the CFD. We were nice guys and let them use the John's in the house. They broke the John with a hammer they brought in and my partner took 30 days.
They also were arressted for setting arson's as to create a demand that they be given what they wanted and brought back to work. Screw all of them.
If this is fact: This whole thing is BULL SHIT and not one mention of it on the NEWS. If it were reverse we would be all over the media. I say Fuck the Fire Dept. Personnel!!!! My son got rear ended in streamwood and got pushed into the car in front. He called to say the streamwood copper was going to give him a ticket for following to close even though he was stopped in traffic.He told him that his dad was a cop for chicago and just wanted to to talk to him.The cop basically M F me and gave him a ticket. And a time when we all should be trying to stick together since the state is going after our pensions and no one has our backs, we go and f@ck each other.

Everybody is knocking the Ferie Department for this incident. I understand he was dead wrong. But I remember watch parties and retirement parties where it was all coppers and sure enough, after the alcohol flowed coppers would start swinging. Coppers of all ranks. Doesn't excuse anything and circumstances are different, but the Captain is at fault and nobody else. Point being, Police and fire in Chicago have had a good relationship. Let's not be a bunch of assholes and blame the whole fire department of one assholes actions. We do have a few on our department who are no better than the fire captain is. Hopefully it isn't swept under the rug, but many instances on our own department are swept under the rug. We know it's all fucking clout, but every deaprtment has their share of clout baby's who fuck up big time and not a thing happens afterward. SCC has posted more than our share of people who are allowed to do whatever they please and not a damn thing happens. Just saying, what is the difference with this. If there is anybody that don't know the routine, you should open your eyes to all the bullshit that some people get away with. It has been that way for my 22 years on the job and it will stay that way long after anyone of us is retired from the job. Legit is not a word in the Chicago Political dictionary.

I will say that with what a few comments have stated, if during the G8 / NATO Summit, any copper puts any fireman in harms way should have a foot put up their fucking ass. Every time either department loses someone on the job, the other department is right there for us. As far as the comment about CFD during the strike, do you realize how long ago that was. If you still have resent after all these years, then you are the one with the problem. Let shit go. The relationship police and fire have now is one of brotherhood and respect for each other. When either is at their lowest, we are there for each other. That's the way it should be. None of us on either department have a job that is safe. We all go to work not knowing if we are coming home.

Sounds like they meant to say they found Chicago Alderman Anthony Beale lying on the squad car hood.
I am not a LEO and I am not educated on what charges might be filed agasint Altman, however if he did assault the LEO as I read in the stories here and on DSLC, Altman must be held totally and completely accountable for his actions. His father, his brothers were all assholes, they all thought their SHIT did not stink when DADDY was in power, it is time they got back what they dished out for the many years I knew them on the CFD. Because the offense happened on an "emergency scene" Altman should be dismissed!

Cops helped to get him elected, and he is probably embarassed by Altman if he knows him.
There is a lot of common ground that connect the jobs.
Going to criminal charges in this matter, and I only know what I have read here, I fear will come back and bite us. It will justify Rahmster doing that in anything. This should have been handled like the Cozzi case should have been handled. All in house, a long costly suspension, and that's it.

That was a different Altman. The one you are referring to was his older brother Edward(same name as the dad). Ed Jr was never a ff. This is Mark who is a Capt, but is still a POS just like his 3 brothers that were ALL on the CFD at one time.
Just to clarify for some posters...
Mark Altman was not the son that was formerly head of CFD IAD. That was Edward Jr (IIRC). Another son, Jimmy, is retired CFD, another one, Mike, is a CFD Battalion Chief. All have something in common, besides their huge clout... their HUGE ego !!! All have had career paths that have been well greased and all have been allowed into any specialist role in CFD they have wanted. The rules, (and even the contract), apply to everyone else...not the Altmans.
Most of CFD would love to see one of them get their comeuppence !!!

Fuck u asshole...my son had his phone in his hand when the cop made that statement ,,and i heard it. And if u are the cop then shame on u. The insurance already paid out and were surprised that he got a ticket. And it gets expensive to have to take a day off work toGO AND TALK TO THE COP WHEN IT COULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OF THERE.Again we are brothers in law and should be looking out for each other.

These jagoffs have spent years throwing around a name that no one gives a fuck about as they sit on their throne and wait for their ring to be kissed and shoes to be spit shined! Bad part is yet another Altman tarnishing the Fire Department's name and worst if all, this dickhead, all be it inadvertently, has driven a rift between CFD and CPD at a time when we need to unify to avoid the Wrath of Rahm for the next three, painful years!
