Justifying the Cost

Funny stuff:
  • The added cost of the shield is certainly within the norm for the options requested by CPD.

The new shields have two custom upgrades that only CPD required. the first is a custom blended acrylic that enhances peripheral vision in multitudes and pinpoint optical zoom when viewing directly forward.

This new technology allows for the officer to focus on just one individual directly in front of him/her and only that subject. The advantage of such an option is that it puts the officer within his/her comfort zone by giving the perception that the subject is alone. This enhances the officer's ability to conduct themselves in a politically correct manner .

The second option is the new "Rose Colored" option along with the peripheral "Multiplier" that gives the officer the perception of being amongst thousands of officers.

The cost is actually a deal but the only disadvantage will be the 4" x6" Mayor rahm emanuel decal on the shield, the adhesive tends to drip down and the officer's footing may become affixed to one spot.

The basis of this technology is the new federal mil spec requirements used to conform with
the obama administration Rules of Engagement strategy.
Whatever this commentator is having, we'll have two and we got the next round for the bar.

Perhaps the Sup is wearing the second option shield. Apparently he sees more officers than he actually has.

SSC - New Topic:

Well OVER 1000 HELMETS DESTROYED ! !

I work at 35th Street and now there is a new problem related to department issued helmets.

There are over 1000 officers who still have the 1970 “Buco” style helmet.

If you recall in around 1993 many of us were sent to the Humboldt Park Armory for riot control training because of protests over the Gulf War.
All officers who had the old
1960’s “Buco” style helmet were issued the shiny new style helmets.

HOWEVER, for those who had the then newer 1970’s style helmets, the officers were told they did NOT need new helmets then.

NOW THEY DO !!!

HERE LIES THE PROBLEM . . .
Over the past decade, possibly even longer, when well over 1000 officers retired; THEIR HELMETS WERE TURNED IN AND DESTROYED!!!!

THAT’S RIGHT!!!

The helmets were drilled on the top so they could not be used again. After all, the new recruits being hired must purchase their own helmets right?

HOWEVER they FORGOT about the
1000+ senior officers who still have the 1970 style helmet!!

OVER $300,000 of the taxpayer’s money down the shitter because of the morons who run this department and city!

Now that the city claims they are broke because of stupidity like this…
they are scrambling to purchase new helmets by May 1st for senior officers.
Un-fuckin' real!

Maybe if the mayor is willing to sweet-talk he might be able to secure a funding grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and Ophra might
kick-in a few dollars too, if he plays his cards right.
After all it is a civic need.

So the multiplier makes the officer believe he's among thousands when it's just Clancy on his left and Chauncey on his right?

When I quit all they wanted was the star and ID. I have my helmet still. Others turned everything in. The secretary knew the order, downtown will take anything you turn in because they dont know any better.

Obama's rules of engagement? 3 times the drone strikes of Bush, and Al-Alwaki and Osama Bin Laden dead? I'll take those rules of engagement. Makes me a libtard, I suppose.

We were told the City has $55 Million Dollars to spend on G8 and NATO.

OK, we now do not have G8. So what we spend on NATO should be more intense and focused on the troops.

But what is the delegation in Brussels doing? Where did the money come from that is financing them? Are they wining and dining the heads of state telling them PLEASE PLEASE don't cancel your trip to Chicago. We'll pay for everything. You can leave your kids here to go to Northwestern or U of C, no charge. Don't worry about crime here, there is no crime. You can get the U.S. Secret Service to drive your kids around.

Stay Safe, Euro-Buddies, Remember Chicago is BROKE.

P.S. I bet a lot of $$$ is going to protect "The Bean" the soon to be called Richard M. Daley Memorial Park, the Picasso and the Calder statues and other artworks from the vandals and anarchists. But, our neighboorhoods be damned.

I think that the only option that comes with the new shields is the increase in profit for the politically connected outfit that is selling these to the department at a 600% markup!
The regular shield wholesales for $15. The quantity that the city is buying would make the city the top distributor for the company that makes them.
They could gold plate them and stud them with diamonds for half the cost!
WHY ISN'T ANYONE INVESTIGATING THIS CONTRACT?

Ref
Re issue of helmets.
There is a law that prvents the reissue of old headger, that why you get to keep your helmet when you retire. It saves the city the cost of having to destroy the helmets.
Yes they could have them refurbished, but that would cost almost as much as a new helmet and would not meet DOJ certification

Pat Camden told Steve Cochran last night on WIND that the helmets won't even be ready when the NATO event occurs.

So it takes away my view. That is limiting my perception.

They can keep it. I'll wear the one I got.

Pass the Kool-aid

Get real buddy.. you run water inside the helmet and soak it in dish soap.. yeah, that would cost HUNDREDS of dollars.
