Ten Days?

  • John Harris, who was chief of staff for Rod Blagojevich when both were arrested in December 2008, was sentenced today to just 10 days in prison for assisting the then-governor’s efforts to sell a vacant U.S. Senate seat.

Harris apologized and acknowledged he failed to live up to his own standards. “I lost my way,” he told the judge.

U.S. District Judge James Zagel said Harris was too close to power to avoid prison entirely. “The offense is so serious and so crucial that I cannot impose upon you a sentence that does not involve custody,” he said.

We understand the first person to talk gets the best seat on the bus and Harris, a former CPD exempt who made the leap from obscurity to golden boy in short order, cooperated fully during both Blago trials. But this makes it appear Harris didn't even buy a ticket on the bus.

On the flip side, if this is a trend, we'd expect to see Daley and Burke both in prison uniforms before the decade is over.

Hmmm...John Harris worked for the CPD. He also worked for the Dept. of Aviation. He also worked for the Mayor. And then he worked for our recently convicted Gov. Ten days in stir because he cooperated with the FBI? Is working for Blags the only thing he talked about?

Harris was a piece of shit on CPD. Feds should have looked a the shit equipment and software this asshole purchased for the department. Deceased 1st Deputy John Thomas nearly punched out Harris at 35th St. because of all the bullshit. JT was so stressed out from dealing with the BS he was given line of duty death benifits after the heart attack.

Well with the federal sentencing guidelines he might do as little as 6 days if he times his entry so that a three day weekend is at the end of his horrendous period of imprisonment.

In any case he is still screwed. Six figure job and now he's training as an electrical linemen. I know: wah wah wah.

Certainly encourages politicians' staff to become willing whistle-blowers, to "come clean" w/some assurance that their own complicity will be tolerated and mildly addressed. Sentence seems very light, but judge likely is encouraging more dirtied staffers to step forward. Harris did do us a favor by testifying against Blago, (a politician run amok, who had little Machine support and therefore no effectiveness, who's probable grandiosity and likely diagnosible clinical cass of narcissistic personality disorder rendered him incapable of fulfilling his governor role anymore), and at least Blago has been deposed and disposed. Harris will land on his feet after serving his 10-day sentence; look for him to get another government appointment too for services rendered.

What a liouse this guy was at the airport. He used to walk around ( doing nothing ) trying to find ways to complain about city workers and threatening them.
He loved to lord over the employees
that he was better than they were.
Needless to say, its rummored he had his hands in the pie, but the US atty will not persue that because its still going on with the current admin.

Let there be NO DOUBT WHATSOEVER, Blago got slammed so hard because of the way he conducted himself post arrest. The fucker's delusional megalomania and ensuing "media campaign" added 10 years to his sentence.

Here's how it would've otherwise broken down.

Blago gets arrested, charged.

Option 1: Go belly up right away, mea-culpa your ass off, "... I didn't think what I was doing was illegal but I now realize that I've made a tragic mistake for which I'm deeply sorry..."

Outcome: 3-5 years.

Option 2: Go to trial, standard defense, get convicted.

Outcome: 5-7 years.

What Blago did: Arrogance. Go to trial, blame everyone, go on "The View" and every media outlet blabbering about how you've been "done wrong", completely fail to acknowledge any responsibility whatsoever, piss off the judge, lose at trial:

Outcome: 14 fucking years.

This is why the plea rate with the feds is astronomically high, with Federal sentencing guidelines being what they are.

Take it like a man, keep the judge and prosecutor from 'getting personal', you'll do your 1-5 years. Make it personal, challenge them, they have up to 10 years PER FELONY at their disposal to stick right up your ass, which they will do...

Harris was an arrogant pos, but he was only at 35th Street for one month. John Townsend, not John Thomas, almost gave Harris an ass-kicking at 1121 S. State, not 35th Michigan.

The shit equipment and software and huge amounts of slick maneuvering and wasted money was from Babbzie MacDonald, not so much from Harris.

And while you seem to be impressed with JT, he was no bargain either, although much better than Harris and MacDonald. He foolishly smoked like a maniac and he was juggling some things that caused him a load of stress, like being a huge first-deputy prick to those not in his inner-circle and the person known as the 16th.

Are you daft? He's one lucky guy. He still has his life, wife and children and he has a high-powered good job so he can support them all. Pun intended. And just ten days in prison? For cripes sake, he can use vacation time at the job to serve his sentence. He is hardly "screwed".

And even though the new job has a dangerous aspect, he just has to be careful until they inevitably promote him over and over again at the urging of the same push that got him the job in the first place.

Your definition of "screwed" is seriously flawed.

As you can see by what the lawyer said about blago. That he was a very difficult man to work for and his client Harris was in a bad work environment, but yet he only serves 10 days for all his wrongdoings. Have we forgotten we have the choice to do right or wrong. What's wrong with this picture. He is being made like a victim of blago's power what bs. As far as Daley and Burke, everything will come out once they are dead. It will hurt the great black and white obama too much if things come out with all the dealings that he has had with the daley's.

It shows who really runs things. The FBI makes the case on flipping a RAT or bugging a phone or by getting some weak piece of shit to wear a wire. Then they tell the judge how much time you will get (Harris and numerous others) Has the judge ever not followed the recommendation after a plea bargain? When they don't get what they want they castigate the judge and appeal (Vrodlyak decision) and they decide when you will start your sentence (Rats Jerry Finnigan and Little Rat Keith Herrera) When will he be sentenced? When the smirking idiot Robert Grant wants him too. "We don't need no stinking judges" " Always remember your either on the train, or your on the tracks!"

Does he still get his city pension?
Was the pension rolled into a state pension when he worked for Blago?
How about an in-depth report on this.
He was a tremendously arrogant civilian Dep. Sup. while on the CPD. Furthermore, he had no clue on how to run a police dept.

The city has their "medical" experts going through claims. Have your doctor keep submitting them. They are looking for specific wording.
