Voting Numbers Down

  • Early Voting for Illinois' primary election ended Thursday, and officials say the number of voters who went to the polls is down compared to four years ago.

The Chicago Board of Election Commissioners said early data shows early voting ballots cast is down by more than 46,000 compared to 2008, which saw 81,690 ballots cast.

[...] Absentee voting is also down by more than 8,000 compared to 2008. Of the 9,400 absentee applications processed Wednesday for the March primary, only about 4,763 absentee ballots were returned. About 13,000 ballots were mailed in 2008, election officials said.
This low turnout would work in the police/fire's favor by giving us a disparate impact on totals....if everyone had registered to vote and actually voted. Seriously, we need FOP to take a better lead and hammer this point home. Otherwise we end up endorsing people (like Madigan, Alvarez and others) just to endorse them and they do nothing to benefit the members.

I didn't vote early because I have a very real concern the numbers get manipulated.

I'll be there on Tuesday, though. Just like I always am.

Why should this fall on Fop? Especially when at best 20% of members even vote. It took less than 5 mins to go to the library and use early voting. Its sad to say that more members read this blog then keep up with union business. That being said how about a post about some candidates to vote for and against. I wonder how many people know that the guy Thompson running for MWRD is Daleys nephew. There are many other candidates thay deserve more attention also.

The goofs at FLOP endorsed the sitting alderman in the 36th ward for 36th ward committeeman rather than a policemans wife who is a true REPUBLICAN. Then they did a mailing to everyone in the ward with that poor endorsement, so much for FOP looking out for coppers and their families!

Vote damnit!

Our very lives depend on every copper getting up in friends and familiy member asses!

If Every Copper and Fireman leaned on the 5 to 10 votes they can directly influence, we can stem the tide of fuckery that threatens to wash us out to sea.

The numbers are not down. What is different about this primary season from 2008 is that the President is running unopposed. Therefore there is no need for all the vote fraud. In fact this is probably a good means to measure how much of the vote is represented by fraud. 81,690 – 46,000 = 35,690. That is actually pretty modest, maybe most of the dead only vote on election day.

Here is your heads up on judges: Vote every one of them out. Repeat for every elected official. The solution must be simple for it to work.

This system is broken and it needs a big play to fix it. VOTE OUT EVERY SITTING JUDGE AND EVERY SITTING ELECTED OFFICIAL REGARGDLESS OF PARTY.

We don't have to be the most corrupt City in the Nation.

If only 20% of you vote (according to another post), why do you even bitch and moan about the city?

If you all united, you could run your own slate of candidates in most of the wards. Sure, you would not win every race, but you would have more representation in city council than you have now.

Just a thought.

Another joke of an election. Anyone take a Republican ballot and see who is running for judge? Essential no one, all blank. The one party system is alive and well in Cook County.

I voted early, at Welles Park, and the place was dead quiet. Lots of signs posted outside for this or that judge or minor functionary - but since I took a Republican ballot, the names didn't mean anything to me.

I'm also a judge of election and will be on duty Tuesday - I'll be curious to see how many people show up.

I found out this year that we could vote early by mail without any hassle. All I had to do was fill out a form, send it to Orr and the ballot was mailed. I filled it out and mailed it back. Didn't even have to pay postage on the return envelope.

Painless.

I didn't know anything about a cop family member running. I still don't so they have run a poorly organized campaign. Sposado in the 36th Ward defeated Daley's hand picked successor to Wm. J.P.Banks and has stood up to Rahm. So what does Rahm do, he gerrymanders most of the 36th Ward away from Sposado. It may not be a perfect choice, it never is, but I will go with the guy who has struck a few blows for us.

But please, everyone VOTE.

Cops and their families should be an important factor in any election.

Last time I looked, you have a democrat ward committeeman and a republican ward committeeman not one or the other. The 36th ward ousted the Banks-controlled appointed alderman last year and is now running some puppet of Banks with a clout name against Sposato, who needs to get into that spot on principle.
The Republican ward committeeman spot is between the current officeholder and the wife of CPD.
Just remember to vote for whoever is the Republican presidential candidate come November.

The ball was dropped by FOP. We said slate police officers in every race, but the leadership continues to line their own pockets.

It's a total joke, I give up on FOP, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, and soon America if Obummer is elected another term.

FOP should mind their own business and stick to representing Chicago Police Officers and getting us the best representation , benefits, pay, and working conditions in the Nation, not pandering/endorsing these Politicians or those connected to them.. If they would put more effort int watching out for our best interests and quit politicing, we might get more than a bullshit 2 % raise this time. I guarantee that if Republicans were running Crook County and Chicago, we would have certainly gotten more tha a 2% raise last time with our new contract.

Wouldn't it be nice to discuss them in an organized forum where they stood the chance of coming to fruition? Just sayin.........

"
he honor of the Third Worse Judge in Cook County belongs to Judge Laura Cha-yu Liu. I blogged about her back in December. She is running unopposed for the 8th Sub-circuit.

She was allegedly diagnosed with cancer and has been on medical leave for quite a while. That, however, doesn't stop her from coming down to the courts, and yucking it up with some of her pals. She's not bed-ridden, is still on the public payroll. Other judges on her circuit are upset because they are carrying her case load. For all appearances she looks fine and capable of doing her job but she's more interested in milking her situation and not doing what she was appointed to do.

How does she continue to get away with this? She is none other than the wife of Michael J. Kasper - Michael Madigan's "favorite attorney". Kasper also represented Emanuel during his residency challenge. According to the website for Kasper's law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson, Mr. Kasper has represented "Congressional Representatives Rahm Emanuel, Daniel Lipinski, Bill Foster, Phil Hare, William O. Lipinski, Bobby Rush and Jan Schakowsky." That's quite a resume, and not surprising that his wife gets special favors, and a judgeship to boot. It's also no wonder how she got appointed to a seat with no opponent.

WTF is a republican going to do for our pension. I'm a die hard republican but if we want to save our pension and preserve bargaining issues that we have achieved so far we need Democratic mules to carry the load. Nothing in Springfield get's done without Madigan and his like so even though it kills me to vote for this guy I want my pension when I retire.

From a troll: Never and I mean never vote early! You never know who gets indicted right up to election day. You do not want to waste your vote weeks or a month early. The idiot you voted for may get locked up a week before the election for taking a $7k bribe from a "daycare" operator trying to get a $50k loan from the state. What is funny about that case is like this cheezy, crooked bankrupt state has $50k to give to anybody.

For the first time in my 33 years of eligibility to vote, I will be asking for a Republican Ballot. I have always been a (gasp) secret Republican, hiding in Democratic clothing tho. However, I can not, and will not EVER again ask for a Democratic Ballot! This city, county, and state is NOTHING but corrupt and I am totally fed up with it. Not that anyone is really interested in what I am doing but if more of us, who, like me, believed the BS that with a city job you need to vote democratic, maybe we can finally get some changes (doubtful).

If you read the fine print, you can still vote Monday at the downtown election office the same way you could on Thursday. It's called in-office absentee, but it's the same thing as early voting.

The other 30 sites are truly closed though.

Same in the suburbs, where you can vote at one of the courthouses (or at the suburban election office downtown) on Monday.
