Another Nail in Taste Coffin

  • If you were already upset about a shortened Taste of Chicago and the change of date, Wednesday's news may not be appetizing either.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel is proposing a $25 ticket fee to sit in the Petrillo Music Shell during Taste concerts.

Seating on the lawn is still free. Emanuel said the revenues from the seat sales, along with ticket sales from a series of celebrity chef dinners, will help offset the cost of the food festival, has operated at a steep deficit the last few years.
Rule #1 about holes - if you find yourself in one, stop digging.

Rule #1 also applies to dumping good money after bad. If the Taste isn't self sufficient, dump it. You can apply that to parades, too.

The only people who ever made money off these festivals are the food vendors and the crooked politicians. Over priced small portions of food and 3rd rate entertainment killed the Taste. Let this mess just die off.

How the fuck is 25 bones gonna cut down on the gang element. The music shell and the vendors are separate and you dont have problems inside the venue during the concert its the surrounding areas where you have those problems. Especially when the joint shuts down for the night.

Now what really needs to be done is to schedule a meeting with the Humboldt Park Festival Committee and demand they cut their festival to 3 days from six. Just make it one weekend. It is by far one of the biggest drains of police manpower on the North Side. Way too much manpower and resources are pumped into that festival that never pays the City back for anything and causes way too many gang problems!

Dumping non-self sustaining events is a great idea. Now if we could just remember that come election time and get rid of these fuckers who make life difficult to live in Chicago. Concealed carry, reasonable accounting for our tax dollars, make the recipients have to pee clean to get my tax dollars as I have to piss to earn it. YOU know, important stuff.

Wrong approach Tiny. Charge 25.00 NOT to go to Taste and you might have something there.

Who cares!

It's only for the tourists and their "children"!

I do NOTHING and SPEND NOTHING in this city while "Off Duty"!

I go to the suburbs for dinner, food, fuel and shows! All much cheaper and just as entertaining in the city!

Decades ago when some of you were growing up in the burbs or other states, the Taste was being modeled after Milwaukee Fest. Both festivals charged admission. Rev. Jackson staged a boycott of what later became the Taste, the City folded & it is what we have now. Jackson is not as poweful, he has taken care of himself and his children, including his lovechild, so 9.5 may be able to pull this off. Let's face it, the people coming into the City to pay top dollar for reduced portions of food are what pay the bills. The unemployed gangbangers are only useful around election time. If they would go back to charging an admission fee, the Taste would be civilized again. Milwaukee runs it with less than 10 officers & 1 Sgt!

Oh believe me, paying to park at the beach is going to be a reality real soon. In fact I don't think the readers even realize the number of new fees that are going to be implemented in 2012-13 it's astounding. Get used to being absolutely broke all the time.

It is very important that this city ask the police to do nothing. No feasts, no conferences, no parades, no public gatherings of any kind that actually require the police to do work. The police are too busy blogging to do work.

They might as well start accepting the LINK Card, those are the patrons that are at the "taste of Shitcago". Factor in a family of 4 will spend easily $200.00 at the taste. I would rather go to a nice suburban restaurant and have a quiet enjoyable time with my family. My family currently shops 70% outside of Shitcago & Crook County.

Speaking of food vendors at Taste of Chicago, where else in Chicagoland can anyone get those Turkey legs besides The Renaissance Fair?
Overheard long ago by an attendee. " Look at the size of those drumsticks, them chickens must be on asteroids ! "

The Taste of Chicago Showcase.

I've read about that recently.

That's where you have people bite the fingers off of seventy-six year old senior citizens in order to pry a lousy ten dollar bill out of their hands isn't it?

Showcase it!

Show me what a "World Class" city looks like. This ain't it.

But the dignitaries are coming, the Chicago dignitaries are cumming..

Quick put up the rolling roadblocks and bring this city to a halt as we whore out our assets.

Man-oh-man... Israel is about to declare war on Iran any day now and that will likely turn that NATO summit into a cluster f--k beyond belief.

As if there isn't already enough stuff going on with Afghanistan and the entire Euro collapse to protest about.

NATO Summit == Rahm's Waterloo.

Yeah come on down town to the mayors honeypot of fines/fees/taxes.

If you like playing the virtual world video game called Grand Theft Auto this my friend is the place for you to come this summer.

You can pay $5/gal for gas in the sanctuary city and risk traveling through a maze of endless school and park speed zones traps enriching the corporate outsourced ticket writing machines to get there. All while dodging the gun fire and the car jackings that is.

Surprise, surprise, a few weeks later when the bill arrives in the mail and the Sanctuary city threaten your credit ratings should you fail to pay for your alleged violations.

Once here you can park at an outsourced city parking meter or garage and if you're lucky get towed by the outsourced city pound operator on some trumped up violations with your ride impounded.

Woo-hoo!! You haven't lived until you've experienced the Showcase of the lines at the city auto pound. A thrill a minute.

If you decide not to drive you can always take public transportation.

Don't worry about the broken down bullet trains bursting into flames, it's not that big of a deal.

Make sure you use that downtown pedway though so that you can experience the apple picking showcase that the city has to offer.

Can't afford the double-saw for seats at the band shell? Take the Red line and see the daily foul mouth rap entertainment for free. There's no extra charge should a scuffle break out.

Rahm is lying. The fees would be for the children. People are going to boot his ass out of office after they get a few tickets--hopefully.

I don't care what they do with the Taste. I haven't gone there in man years and my seniority says I will never have to work it. I don't care. I will go to SummerFest in Milwaukee.

I hope the Mayor can do something about reversing this parking meter deal. The city is losing hundreds of millions of dollars a year that we sorely need. If we had that money we would be in much better shape and not have so many fees and fines. Selling the citizens meters was wrong, They were not a private asset to sell and I sincerely wish Rahm's office could work their magic to get this back into the city's hands.

They already charge. Pay boxes were installed 2010. You have to feed the meters 24hrs.

I'm a southsider. The suburbs are closer, cleaner, cheaper, tax is 6%, gas is about 30 or 40 cents less, parking is free and there seems never to be piles of broken glass from shattered car windows lying about every parking lot in town. Restaurants are varied, friendly and not closed by health inspectors and should I take an android phone out of my pocket chances are, I won't be clubbed over the head or have my fingers bitten off as some crackhead attempts to make it his own. Their festivals are all free and have great entertainment.
