Shots Fired at Police in 016
- Police were conducting a manhunt this evening after an off-duty Chicago police officer exchanged gunfire with at least two would-be robbers this afternoon on the Far Northwest Side, authorities said.
No one was injured in the incident about 5:45 p,m. near Lunt and Algonquin avenues, not far from the city’s border with Niles, police said. As of 7:45 p,m., police were conducting a manhunt for the suspects, believed to be traveling in a purple Honda CRV.
The vehicle’s front-passenger side window apparently was shot out during the exchange of fire.
A man who owns a store near Addison and Elston avenues had pulled into his driveway near Lunt and Algonquin, when the Honda pulled up behind him, police said. The robbers, wearing masks, got out of the Honda with guns drawn and tried to rob the man.
Soon after, the off-duty officer, who works security at the man’s store, pulled up behind the robbers’ vehicle, apparently thwarting the robbery, police said.
The officer exchanged gunfire with the robbers, but no one was hit, police said.
No hits, but a bold as hell move following the business owner home and then exchanging gunfire with the off duty. Side jobs can be way more dangerous than riding around in uniform sometimes. Be careful.

So 016 is down 100, and yet 011 on 3rd watch can down TWELVE cars, which include 4 primary beat cars, every night in "zones", leaving the remaining cars to answer the calls in the permanent backlog. Every domestic and priority 1 call has about 40 minutes on it by the time we are even dispatched to it. And...wait for it....people are STILL being shot in 011! But we are being told that it doesn't matter unless it's in a "zone". So good luck 016. You're not in a "zone", so you just don't count. Glad our guys are ok, and stay safe up there.

Unfortunately, it's inevitable. As older, tax-paying folks who have been here for years get old, die, move to warmer climates, etc., the shitheads begin to move in. Look at the south and west sides. They weren't always the wastelands they are now. It was simply an evolution. It's not to say that 016 will become a ghetto overnight ... the demographic shift will take years. But ... you can't stop it. You just have to hope you can tough it out long enough to retire and then get the hell out of Dodge.

Screw this city! Counting down my days till I can move on. My Grandfather and Father were CPD, back when your hands where not tied as a coppper. So damn glad they talked me out of it. I was born and raised in 016 and I have been watching it slowly crumble. I see all these squads constantly patrolling without a partner if I see a squad at all. All I can say to the shitbirds is be careful who you target. Some of us older folks don't care what the IL laws are. I never leave home without my friend S&W and come home to my trusty old friend Benelli.

Ummmm, ok. After reading the numerous stories about all the real problems in 016 an 017 I think yor right. I will stay south. Obviously it's much cleaner and safer than what your having to deal with up north... And before you try to argue again make sure you re read all of the stories including this one about thugs shooting, stabbing and robbing up in your "home front"..
