- When Rahm Emanuel was a first-time candidate for Congress, Greg Goldner was behind him, quietly marshaling the patronage troops that helped get him elected. When Emanuel ran for mayor, Goldner was there again, doling out campaign cash to elect Emanuel-friendly aldermen to City Council.
And when the rookie mayor was looking for community support for his school reform agenda, there was Goldner, working behind the scenes with the ministers who backed Emanuel's plan.
Now, it turns out the longtime allies share another interest — the installation of automated speed cameras in Chicago.
But wait - it's all going to be fair now:
- Mayor Rahm Emanuel said today that a city speed camera contract will be put out to bid and indicated it won't be handed to a company represented by his longtime political ally.
Emanuel said he has put in place the checks and balances to make sure the lucrative contract is awarded fairly. The mayor's comments came after the Tribune reported that Greg Goldner, a lobbyist and consultant with deep political ties to Emanuel, has been working as a consultant for Redflex Traffic Systems Inc., the company that currently has a city contract to install and maintain red light cameras. Goldner's responsibilities with Redflex include working to help the company expand nationwide.
Appearing today with Gov. Pat Quinn at a news conference to announce a new building at Olive-Harvey College, Emanuel reiterated his position that the speed cameras around schools and parks are important to protect children. And he said his administration has made the city's bidding process more transparent so members of the public can be sure he isn't playing favorites.
And hey, if helping the children means Redflex makes tens of millions, some of which will undoubtedly find it's way into Rahm's campaign coffers for his expected Senate run, that's not a bug, that's a feature!

O.T. The W/C or whatever there called this week has announced in Roll Call the last three days that the Mayor's Detail is L@@ing for a few good men or woman... Apparently, a woman made it up to the Mayors front door without being challenge by the PO assigned to watch the front of the house.
So the woman, who was said to be a goof ends up ringing the doorbell and comes face to face with Rahm's daughter... At some point the PO notices the woman on the front porch talking to the daughter at which point the PO exits the car and manages to move her off the property and makes out an information rpt. Of course Rahm's pissed as is his wife and now the Supt.
So what's the knee jerk reaction of the Dept??? We need two PO's to sit in the front of the house; probably a 10-4 unit or maybe a 2nd veh in front for ALL 3 watches! Hey, what's another $240,000? I'm sure Rahm has already found the money to offset the additional Expense! He always does!
Now this incident and many more to follow are a direct result of Rahm's wife, Amy Rule, wanting to attempt to live as normal life as possible. She refuses to install a fence around the front yard even an attractive one just tall enough to keep honest people honest. How many milliseconds does it take for someone to leave the sidewalk and walk the short distance to the house. By the time a PO exits the car a citizen can ring the doorbell numerous times!
So instead of taking any percautions, i.e. fence or living in an area like Daley, that was at least a gated community, lets just spend the Tax Payers money on additional security for his House! So, thats an extra body for each shift plus an Extra Person to make the relief's for personals etc.!
Hey Rahm, "Why don't you take the hit for the extra security seeing is your not taking any of your own measures to secure your own property, and especially since you made it a point that Daley had too many body guards when he was in office."
Well you can be assured Mr. Mayor I won't be putting in for that extra post in front of your house! Rahm I hope you and the Mayor rest easy tonight knowing there's PO's watching your house on the Tax Payers Tit!

Heh..if it's for the children how come they did not require school buses to have seat belts when they passed that recent law regarding rear seat belts usage? I mean the politico's are so concerned about the children that should of been a no-brainer.

That the Greg Goldner connection has been made public, should FORCE Mayor Rahm Emanuel to state to the press that Redflex will now NEVER get the contract, to PROVE to everyone that his administration is not just "transparent," but completely, 100% ethical. But we all know that "the fix is in."
Every time that Rahm speaks, OBSERVE his eyes, the crafty way he speaks, his couched and Clinton-like choice of vague words that mean one thing to us, but another to him; and the complete lack of genuineness or goodness in his tone. It is almost surreal, like instead of watching a mayor giving a press conference, we are watching that great John Carpenter sci-fi movie from 1988, "They Live," where evil aliens from another planet, who wear business suits and look just like us on the surface, have fooled the people into submission, and proceed to execute their diabolical plans behind closed doors.
In that movie, you could detect who the evil aliens were by putting on a special kind of sunglasses, revealing their true, scary persona. In our case, it is much, much simpler: whenever Rahm opens his mouth in front of a microphone, every single time, know that this Evil Alien Rahm, who IS NOT ONE OF US, is going to spew his lies and fool the public, while taking care of his wealthy, connected buddies behind the scenes.
The truly scary part is that we can't just turn off the DVD and be relieved it was "just a movie." We are living in the very real hell that the mayor is creating to subjugate us all, the nightmare known as RahmWorld.
