Connected Dollars

  • The judge who’s to decide whether a special prosecutor investigates the Cook County state’s attorney’s office’s handling of a homicide case involving a nephew of former Mayor Richard M. Daley has contributed $1,450 to the re-election campaign of State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez, records show.

Illinois Supreme Court rules allow such contributions. Still, they are rare. Circuit Judge Michael P. Toomin is among eight Cook County judges who have given Alvarez at least $150 — the minimum amount that’s required to be reported in campaign-finance filings. That’s 2 percent of the 410 sitting judges.

  • Toomin — who was assigned the case in December — has contributed to Alvarez four times, most recently in June. He says he has attended campaign fund-raisers for Alvarez and also gave money to her predecessors but that his political contributions won’t affect his decisions in the Koschman case.

“We live in a political environment,” the judge says when asked about the contributions he made to Alvarez. “Will this affect things? Of course not . . . . It is what it is.”
::cough cough:: bullshit ::cough cough::

So eight judges who rule over points of law and decide rules & procedures for trials contribute to the person whose office brings these cases to the courts?

It'd be at least as interesting to see how many and which defense attorneys contribute to judges campaigns. And would defense attorneys actually contribute to Anita's campaigns also?

Follow the money and be amazed at the connections.

I guess the States Atorney's Office doesn't believe in filing Ethics Statements, like the CPD has to. Another dose of Hypocrisy, from the DEMOCRATS. Do as I say, not as I do.

More taxpayer money, time, resources spent by Illinois politicians on creating challenges to the US Constitution.

Nice job security for the lawyers, judges and all their apparatus at our expense while healthcare, pensions, and education are cut don't you think?

This just in… Personal PAC wins campaign finance suit

Tuesday, Mar 13, 2012

[///]

4:33 pm - From Personal PAC…

Earlier today, United States District Court Judge Marvin Aspen issued a ruling striking down two provisions in Illinois’s campaign finance law on the ground that both are clear violations of the First Amendment. The first challenged provision limited contributions to political action committees, including placing a $10,000 limit on contributions by individuals. The second provision prevented any person from establishing or maintaining more than one political action committee. Judge Aspen held that both provisions are flatly unconstitutional following the United States Supreme Court’s landmark campaign finance decision in Citizens United v. FEC and the Seventh Circuit’s recent decision striking down a similar law in Wisconsin Right to Life State Political Action Committee v. Barland.

The Daley Crime Family figures the longer Anita can keep the David Koschman case buried the more likely Robert Vanecko will never get held accountable for his crime. Again I can only hope for Judgement Day when this moronic prick stands before the Man and is given his pass straight to Hell.

Still can't believe the FOP endoesed Anita Alverez for reelection. Who makes up these picks? Alverez wouldn't piss on any of us even if we were on fire. Fuck her and the judge she is using to derail the Koschman investigation. Anita has always been a suckhole for Daley and Devine.

Another braindead Democrat gets caught by the Feds. State Rep. Derrick Smith (10th) was arrested by the FBI after taking a $7,000 bribe from a day care center to help get a $50,000 grant from the state. Somebody didn't tell Derrick that taking cash under the table is a no-no these days. Now the Dems can appoint another thief to his spot. The Chicago Way.

There was a time when that would be considered a Conflict Of Interest and would have been frowned upon, now it's just a cost of doing business and keeping your City job.

i've always said that
i always thought when there is a crime (such as murder lets say)
the first two rules were
who stands to benieft?
and where is the $going?
those little
"favors" will NOT go unrewarded
some time somewhere down the line
rahmbo and his buddies will reap the beniefts
and try to tell you and i

Cook County is SO corrupt, where do you begin. When the local politcal situation gives you NO chance, when the feds give NO help. What do you do. Well the founding fathers wrote down exactly what needs doing.

You can't possibly think these people care about $150 dollar contributions. That's merely the price of the dinner they attended. You pay to be seen whether you really support the candidate or not. Toomin has a spotless reputation and will handle the matter fairly.

Used to be 10k was the minimum to buy a state rep. Times must be really tough if this guy is giving 30% discounts.

Speaking of discounts anybody know any aldermen giving them, I'm thinking of opening a gun shop in the city.

I saw that the "justice " department wants to strike down the laws that require a photo ID to vote in several states. Is Illinois one of them? I had to show the ID last week when I early voted in Cook County!

Judge Michael Toomin was perhaps one of the finest judges to sit at 26th & Cal. He was tough and fair. To imply that he is any way corrupt just shows the level of stupidity of anyone throwing around that allegation.

Having spent some time at 26th St. and seeing lots of different judges, I can say that any police officer, detective, or victim that spent time in his room and watched his rulings would also agree that he is an excellent judge.

Once again, the Scum-Times is grasping at straws and it is unfortunate that a Judge Toomin's name gets dragged into this as if he was some political lackey.

Anyone who has seen him in court and watched him rule on their cases would know what a fine judge he is.

Having been in homicide for 3 decades I have had many cases in front of Judge Toomin. He will rule according to the law and what's presented to him. The judge is a man of character.

----------------------

When you do no actual reporting and basically only regurgitate what is handed you on a silver platter, it is at least decent to admit it is second or third hand information and has not been vetted for accuracy.
