Which Judges to Vote Against

We like to keep things simple - we simply vote "NO" on every single judge that comes up for retention. We've been doing it for years and have been encouraging people to do the same.

For those of you who like to narrow down your efforts though, our old friend (in fact, our oldest blogging friend) Rue St. Michel has a post up naming some of the worst judges in Cook County.

So spread the word and include this link in your e-mails to friends, family and acquaintances. One of these days we just might manage to launch a few of these jackasses.

Wish we could get rid of dummy(Judge) Luckman in branch 42. Now the safest branch for criminals, but worst for victims.

Voting no does nothing. Making educated decisions about who to vote for is what changes things for the better. Any working police officer can tell you who the good judges are. Especially the pro police ones.

Don't vote to retain Wadas. Political hack. More worrried about what the public thinks instead of the facts. Should have been fired while an ASA.

I am not voting for anyone the Rahm endorses. So sorry! NOT If you chose to affiliate yourself with him, you have become his political hack already! Female, Theis? running ads with him endorsing her. NOPE!

Here is a good rule when it comes to voting for people you don't know. This especially works well in Illinois - when it doubt, vote the incumbent out.

The incumbent is usually the clouted one and the one that has spent way too much time in office.

Some other commenter said, "Making educated decisions about who to vote for is what changes things for the better".

Really? Who is so educated here in Chicago?? Most people vote blindly by party and when it comes to judges, most vote by ethnicity.

There are some minority lawyers with hardly any trial or court experience that beat out really qualified lawyers (30-year plus trial experience) because they got swept in by their ethnicity.

Like I said, when in doubt vote the incumbent out. It is a rule that can be applied to ALL elected offices, not just judges.

Not a LEO, JAFO

there is no retention on the ballot in the primary, it has people to fill spots from retirees (or those not retained, though that's happened like once ever)

To 12:37: It's called term limits. Noone should be a judge for more than 8 years. Fresh blood/fresh perspectives. It's the old boy/girl network that is killing our city and country.

When they end up with only 20% of registered voters voting, the opportunity to vote as a bloc could have been effective.

Please, VOTE, but not for Emanual endorsed Theis.

I have to disagree with you concerning Judge Waddas. I was a detective for over 25 yrs. and had a considerable number of trials in his court room. When he was an ASA he also prosecuted a number of the cases that I had investigated and made an arrest on.

I have always known him as a gentleman, who showed respect to everyone appearing before him. You have to prove your case beyond a reasonable doubt in his court room, but that's the great part about being in the United States of America and your responsibility as a CPD Detective.

Judge Waddas also was a Marine Corps. Officer who lead a rifle company in Viet Nam.

NO TO GUBIN!

She is dangerous. The worst judge I ever had in TC. Her nickname is "motion granted" because she grants motions to quash arrests.
Absolutely clueless, makes up the law as she goes along!
NO TO GUBIN!

We should vote yes for Judge Sullivan for the Appellate Court. She is the sitting Judge who is hearing the the case against the murderer of Officer Clifton Lewis. Also for those of you in the third sub-circuit, vote for Judge Delahanty. Lipinski is a carpetbagger who just moved into the district 9 months ago to run in this race

I thought that article linked to was lame, SCC. It listed one judge twice (Gubin)not to vote for, then listed both Cunningham and Pucinski TO vote for (however, they're running AGAINST each other AND Theis for the Supreme Court.)I'm more inclined to follow your lead and just vote no on all of them.

Your policy to vote "no" is absolutely correct. I've been trying to spread the word on this for years.

Historically, even the worst judges in Illinois win on retention votes. If more voters voted "no," it would drive results closer to the critical 60% mark. If more judicial retention ballots closed in on that 60% mark, they could be decided by the critical 5-10% of voters who actually know something about the judges on the ballot, i.e. lawyers, cops. Vote "No" on ALL judicial retention ballots.

Cops are in a unique position to spread the word on judges -- both good and bad. Keep a long memory and -- when the time comes -- tell anyone who's interested.

My question is why the department let two female police officers in uniform star in commercials for a judge running for state supreme court? I recall when a former superintedent was chastized for appearing in political commercials for mayor. Clearly the democratic establishment is afraid of Puchinski winning.

I don't know who this person is but I an inclined to ignore all of his advise when he tells us to vote for Aurelia Puchinski, who is one of the worse judges we've ever had. She does not understand the law but has such an ego that thinks she's such an expert, no one can tell her anything. Talk about a political hack, could she ever have gotten where she is without her father?

Actually, vote NO, because it will make the "Good" Judges" work harder toget their names known. Only Officers and criminals know who the judges are. Let them start working so the general public knows as well.

Nice try and BOOLSHIT. Scott Lipinski has worked his ass off for years. He is a good attorney and will make a good Judge. Also has run a nice campaign unlike Delahanty. Who the hell even heard of her before this election?

Also recommend Kevin Cunningham. Nice guy, smart, honest and will make a good Judge imho.

This is about OUR PENSIONS. The single most important vote we can cast to preserve the future of our pensions is in the Illinois Supreme Court race.

Last year, the big law firms downtown signed on to a legal memorandum saying the General Assembly can legally CUT OUR PENSIONS (Google “Sidley Austin memo”). It gives the green light to Emanuel and Madigan to balance the budget on the backs of cops, firemen, school teachers and the like… These same law firms and their clients have contributed over $$$ ONE MILLION BUCKS to THEIS. You’ve seen the slick TV ads, right? With the smirking Justice Theis? She is Emanuel’s next door neighbor and he calls her his SWING VOTE on the Supreme Court.

Do you trust Theis to stand up to the folks that funded her campaign and protect our interests? NO WAY.

SAVE OUR PENSIONS.

I’m voting for Aurie Pucinski (Punch#102).

Judges aren't up for retention until November and not every judge is up every election so most of the comments here are useless.

This is a primary election so you don't vote "no," you vote FOR someone. To say vote no for a candidate doesn't say much without suggesting who TO vote for in that vacancy.

You might be electing someone even worse or a bigger hack. If you don't know who Madigan or Rahm or whoever you detest is backing, you risk voting for them because you don't like a particular judge.

For example, there have been a few comments that Judge Gubin is horrible. Great. I'll believe you, but do you know who she is running against and if they are better than her? What if Rahm's henchman who hates cops is against he and you all vote for him? (don't care who you vote for and probably wouldn't vote for Gubin myself if I lived in the 8th).

Just pointing some stuff out.

Beat cop/Night School Law Student's comments about the pension issue really deserve more attention. SCC should feature this more prominently on the blog.

THEIS is backed by Emanuel, endorsed by the Tribune and funded by Big Money interests....and they all advocate cutting pensions for existing city and state workers.

PUCINSKI is the logical choice for us. PUNCH #102

I am texting and tweeting this link to family and friends ASAP. Please do the same.

To: "Haberkorn has been very pro police in the past. Back up your comments." I agree she has always been pretty good to us.

Sullivan, also from SKOKIE has been brutal, lets 'em all go, AND can't ever make a decision without referring to Case law, has been reversed in the past and now afraid to convict anyone.

Deidre BAUMAN, is a scum sucking incompetent leach who made her way suing the Police, working for another POS; BLAKE IAMHORAWITZ , NO TO HER FOR SURE!, She's running against GREG AHERN, ASA who is and always has been PRO POLICE and right minded... so make sure you vote for him.

AND of course best of the best, Nick FORD thumbs up for my man...last of the finest.

He was slated, he is on the ballot. He will get elected. It is a foregone conclusion. Anyone who thinks Thompson will lose is smoking something. He is heavier than the Degnan kid and a well qualified candidate stood down so Degnan could make judge.

Thompson will win, he has already been measured for his new chair.
