Late Notifications

This is just great:
  • I had been hearing a lot of grumbling about late notifications for 26th and Cal and experienced it myself this week and thought people should be made aware. Apparently someone cut down on the number of personnel who notify officers for dates at 26th street. This cutback has resulted in a long delay in notifications being made to the districts/units and thus to the affected P.O.'s. I counted at least a dozen notifications for trials on 29MAR that arrived in district on the 28th. This included a three day trial notification for Thursday, Friday, and Monday that the officers received on Wednesday, if they weren't RDO. In my opinion this move was made for several reasons. 1. Adding to the magic number of officers allegedly moved "to the street." 2. Cutting down on officers who show up in court and thus eliminating paying overtime, and 3, the more sinister motivation, forcing P.O.'s to take deviations and possibly incurring punishment. Maybe this is just a couple week backlog, but its not restricted to where I work because I heard people in other areas mentioning it as well. Let me know what you think or if you've heard anything about this.
We thought this was a glitch or something when we got notified for a court date that was two days past. Now we're find out it's citywide and it's pervasive across the board.

No doubt, the Department is going to fall back on the "officer is ultimately responsible for his/her own court notifications" crap. But if you're RDO (or RDO-plus-a-day to enjoy a three day weekend) and you're not notified until after you return, we're pretty sure that some deviations are going to slip through.

They'll have the manpower to hammer you but not to notify you in the first place. Better start making copies of everything again. If only the copiers weren't out of paper all the time.

This has been going for about 4 months now. its complete bs. inspectors are making a big deal about this and trying to stick it to p.o.. this department is worthless. you make great arrests and then you have to deal with late notifications and crapy asa who know the the court a month prior but don't send it out till a week prior

Good way to lighten the ASA's caseload. Stamp it that the officer didn't show and nollie the case.

Dont forget the goof in charge of the court section is a 19th ward political hack. Civil service sgt merit Lt. What is amazing the man never went to court when working as a tac cop, always jumping on paper, but had family problems when a trail came up. His brother was a do nothing sgt in the CC room and retired out of research and development.

Talk about nepotism. Nephew five year warrior assigned to court section, brother in laws assigned to 022nd district. Kevy has a lot of stories but was never the real police, traffic warden. Replaced Ryan who never deviated the SOS lads, JF and company. Typical CPD do nothing cowards running the court system. Kevy gets a take home car and never checks in at court. You would think that an Inspector Captain would handle his job. Cant even get the notifications out, its OK to screw the working police Kevin but how about our victims? some of us serve our oath to the best of our ability, and Kevy wouldn't know that a p/o in court reassures the victim who is usually scared and nervous. The moron should be fired.

Absolutely true. I' have been told by state attorneys that they sent notifications 3, 4 weeks before the court date and I never get them, or get them a day or two before the court date. This has been happening the last three months or so. Other people in other units have told me the same thing about these late notifications. It really sucks if promise your kids, wife, parents, friends, girlfriend that you are off and available to do something with them or for them because 10 days or a week before your day off you had no notification. Then a day or two before your plans must be cancelled because the court section sat on a notification for 3 or 4 weeks. Hey FOP how about a clause in the new contract that states we are not required to appear in court unless notified at least 7 days in advance. Give us the option if it comes in the day before, like court on furlo.

Same thing happened to me. On my Monday was asked by a fellow P.O. why i wasn't in court the day before. Never got the notification. Maybe if the CCSAO starts complaining, and bad guys get let go because p.o. not notified in time, then bad guy hurts someone, and city gets sued, will they realize manpower moves, without manpower hiring, will have financial consequences, maybe then they will do the right thing.

Funny how this topic comes up. I just got a notification for 26th &Cal on Friday for Monday and Tuesday. A jury trial nonetheless. just gotta say, this is total crap, (on the part of whoever is not giving you guys your notifications). i work at 26th and cal and i and the other attorneys are very diligent in getting our notices out to the CPD as early as we can (usually at least 3 weeks in advance, depending on the date the judge gives us) and it's a shame that you are not getting notified. this backs up the courts, makes victims and civilians upset, and overall delays the entire system. i am also quite happy to ask any and all police officers before i set a date (whenever possible) about furloughs, what shifts they work, etc,so as to make things easier for those i would rather have rested and on patrol, as opposed to sleep deprived and sitting needlessly in court. keep up the good work, catch the bad guys and don't let the system get ya down. some of us on the other side of the bar DO care about you !! cheers mates!!

The REAL FU is the last minute notice for court that causes you to have to cancel your only day for the month of VSEP.

The JOs at special events suspend you from the program for 30 days. I've known loan sharks that were more understanding. I notice they all seem to manage to get both their RDOs working cushy movie jobs or ?
I guess THOSE last minute requests for extra officers are kept in-house, only the court notifiers seem to find their mark to the working cop.

If he gets them to miss a court date, he can suspend the cop for a day.

It's all about Rahm's running the CPD like a business.

Stay Safe, see you in court.

this has been going on for a long time. day before notifications and same day notifications. no time to cancel or change your plans with family, or side job or getting a babysitter. the department doesnt care about you and neither does the courthouse people. the asa's at 26th street sure do forget that the case up in their room is only their because of you and your partner. they need to lighten the fuck up with all the ingnorance and attitude. the inside desk personal on the watches are ignorant too. same goes for the bosses. everybody all over your shit and quick to deviate you without looking at the facts. not to mention, how is it that if i miss 1 court date in an entire year out of my 129 required court appearences and another officer misses 1 court out of his/her ittty bitty 14 required court appearences in a year, how and why am i treated in the same way as to deviations? with all that said, 26th is a joke. the parking lot security, the bldg security, alot of asa's and judges, not all but unfortunately alot. half the problem with crime in Chicago is this sorry excuse of a bldg. more smoke and mirrors.

Ever been sued in Federal Court by one of those assholes? Ever have to list all your assets and give it to asshole's attorney knowing the asshole you locked up will see it too and know exactly where you live and how much you have in bank and investment accounts?

Ever come to the realization before trial that you might lose in court and have to spend your kid's school fund to give it to an asshole you arrested to satisfy a judgement for punitive damages?

Having your attorney try to make it feel better when they tell you that most likely the punitive judgement might only be a couple of paychecks worth of money.

New sheriff in town, you don't play. OK, fine go at it friend. I've had my name on a Federal lawsuit on this job as a defendant and it bothered me for the better part of 5 years and isn't over yet. Waiting for a decision from the Appellate Court to be released.

And the best part of all, I did nothing wrong, absolutely nothing. They guy figured he could fuck with me and he has been doing exactly that. For arresting someone who needed arresting. No beating, no force whatsoever.

Best of luck to you.

RE paper
the city has a contract worth millions of dollars with a company (under the women/minority contracting system) that does not deliver the paper that is sorely needed throughout the city. The police dept is in dire straits and everyone is running around trying to get a case of paper from another unit or district...it's ridiculous. It's takes nearly a month to get paper that is ordered, if that.
Note to the number crunchers in city hall: you can get a case of paper for 31.99 at STaples instead of the 43.00 per case from your horribly underperforming vendor. What are they doing with those millions??

Beware all PO's who have IODs. Apparently the application for submitting IODs can't send in the form because the company who handles it changed their email address. The only problem is is that the application that submits it was not changed on our end. So all these IODs are not being received. Which means that the bills won't be paid since they never received any documentation about the IOD. This translates into collection notices for POs later down the line. And dings on your credit report. Attempts have been made to try and get it fixed, but the hacks who are in charge of Worker's Comp keep passing the buck and won't do anything about it. This has been a problem since Feb of this year. So beware, let your sgt know that there is a new email address and that you have to send the IOD manually by attaching the saved IOD. If you forget to save the IOD you are screwed. The correct email address is
