- Mayor came to plant a tree today @ Garfield and Western. When he got out of his car, Protesters, Anarchists ETC came rushing out of a Carnival that was set up nearby and his detail had to throw him into his car to speed away! The police there were OVER RUN by these nuts, some wearing masks over their faces..
Police called for assist cars.
The press was there, filming this tree planting ceremony..

Some of the media covered the crowd and the retreat. There was booing and some of the people had their faces covered. The booing was not as great as it was Friday at the CPDv.CFD fights which was clearly a standing Boovation. It should also be noted that in some parts of the country, especially the South there are actually anti-mask ordinances. The ordinances were written because of the Ku Klux Klan. That is why when you see Klan demonstrations in public the Klansmen though wearing robes, have their faces exposed.

Wasn't quite as dramatic as some might believe. Rahm was at a tree planting ceremony with a group of young kids. The group was approached by approximately 20 people protesting the closing of mental health facilities. There were two uniformed P.O.'s there from the district. The Mayor's Detail decided to get Rahm out of there and the uniformed guys call for additional cars. Of course, the innocents in all this ... the 6 year old children ... were the ones who were really screwed.

There were two stories on WLS last night. One covered the protest, showing the masked goofs rushing the mayor's vehicle and detail, with some uniforms trying to gain order.
The other story showed the tree planting and the video stops just as the goofs show up.
No video of the mayor being bundled into the car, but I suspect it all happened pretty quickly.
The thing that always bothers me is why these goofs have to wear masks if all they are doing is exercising free speech? If it were just about protesting, why wear a mask? I suppose if you plan to bust windows and torch cars, you might want to wear a mask.
Every nutcase on the planet that wants to get their jollies wearing black and busting things up will soon be here.

This is very accurate but they didn't just come from the carnival, they came from all directions, and yes they were wearing hankies over their faces. The only police on site to start were the Mayor's bodyguards. We had to assist in keeping these knuckleheads away from the kids that were staged around the tree. These axxsholes were trying anything they could to get to the Mayor.
I would suggest that the next time he appears at an event, he have some police at the site, and find out who in the press corps is leaking this information to these groups.

You have to be a real moron not to understand the protestor plans. All you have to do is listen to some of the college kids at the surrounding Chicagoland colleges. All I have heard is talk about the revolution. Go to Hyde Park for instance at the local eateries or coffee shops. Especially downtown. One of the many plans I heard was the protestor movement was going to operate like terrorist cells being real quiet until the DAY of the weekend of the big march. Department stores, those small shops around the downtown area will be suspect with the protestors coming out with their bag of trips. Flares are supposed to be used by flinging them into the crowds causing panic along with bags of manure and urine. Don't let this surprise you, its a fact. Things are going to get messy because the young kids are rebelling against the economic state of affairs. Why did we have to have this in Chicago in the first place? Blame the guy in charge. Sign me, an old retired cop that listens and still observes unlike the people who are supposed to be in charge.

Even though common sense and simple police knowledge would have been sufficient to avoid a stupid mistake like that. Do the world a favor and learn how the hell to do police work. As a Chicago resident I feel really bad for the bullshit your bosses are coming up for the protest. I hope that no one of you gets hurt because of it. That said despite their "rules" I would have the best tactical eyewear I could get. I would also have plenty of ammo, o.c. etc..above and beyond what may be allowed. And know where your Military Vets or others with any emt training are and have med kits/dressings on hand and ready.
Also come up with a way to be as indistinguishable as possible.
Can you blame the mayor? Absolutely NOT. Those people are scary. You could get hurt or worse.

It sounds like the security detail and cops on the scene Did the right thing getting the mayor out of there. The mayor nor anyone else should be bumrushed by villains with face masks. They have masks on for a reason and no one but the police should stick around to find out why.

The same thing I always tell out of towners: Oak Brook is an excellent mall and doesn't have the Cook County sales tax.
Plenty of shopping and a lot of great restaurants nearby.
Doubletree Hotel located right across the street.
A quick cab ride from O'Hare.
If they insist on seeing Chicago, I would suggest that they change their plans.

Off Topic: To the two Idiot Cops from 014 who decided to conduct a traffic stop in traffic at California & North at 1500 Hrs. Monday 23 Apr. Learn how police work is done YOU Morons! First off it's presents a safety issue for officers, and second traffic stops are done at curb side. You obviously did not pay attention in the academy. Even though common sense and simple police knowledge would have been sufficient to avoid a stupid mistake like that. Do the world a favor and learn how the hell to do police work. You make us other police look like a classic jackass.

My question to you is were you a part of the traffic stop? Can we control where the other part/subject decides to stop his vehicle? If they stop their vehicle immediately right on the middle of the intersection then what should the police offices do? Still sit in their cars? Or perhaps immediately get out with guns drawn because it may be an ambush? These are all of the things you should ponder Mr. Wise CPD Cop. Oh one more thing, since you are so wise and all knowing why didn't you stop by and assist the officers with their stop? You sound like a douchebag that we have in 025 who is constantly criticizing other officer's tactical skills.
