Hacked

We've been informed about "virus warning" type windows popping up on the Department computers lately. We're told it occurs dozens of times during the processing of a simple arrest.

Guess what happened? And guess who predicted it?
  • NATO protestors have infiltrated the CPD computers with a worm that is wreaking havoc across the board. 35th Street and OEMC are in a full panic. The entire Department Intranet is in danger of a meltdown on an unimaginable scale, just in time for a potential "mass arrest" situation this weekend that would bring the Department to a grinding halt. (from our e-mail)

Did you see that latest AdMin Fax that told everyone to change their passwords if they haven't been altered in a few years and that efforts were underway to have passwords changed every 90 days? That gaping security risk, pointed out by SCC readers almost a year ago, is coming home to roost. Good thing CPD trimmed the in-house I.T. people and never spent the money/effort on a decent internet security protocol.

This is going to cost big time. And be careful with those detachable drives - you might bring home presents for your own personal computer by accident.

That's OK. Everyone sits on the cement floor while it's all processed on paper.

Could take weeks.

Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Told you so, you stupid assholes.

Go read the posts right here on SCC, from back when they first cut the in-house IT. That was me, screaming from the rooftops about how that was a massive mistake.

This is probably just the beginning. Chicago is an alpha city, the CPD is a huge and critical institution and there's no question the eShitheads will target us. Completely gutting our capacity for a real time IT emergency response will absolutely, positively, most certainly lead to a data catastrophe.

How would you like it if they get into the network and rustle up all the personnel info? Wouldn't it be 'thrilling' if the complete employee dossier of every CPD officer were posted to the internet, name, address, family info and all?

How about if they crack the network and start publicly posting LE sensitive information, blowing numerous big criminal cases so a bunch of dangerous assholes wind up walking on technicalities?

This was just such an incredibly bad decision. Our city has its own dedicated IT department. They should be a CPD functionary, loaned back to the city on an as-needed basis.

You're right SCC... Alot of people have been sounding the alarm about this for years. ESPECIALLY with the administration gutting Help Desk and the like...

Hilarious that a bunch of stinky hippie spawn are putting the fear of God in the high-hats at 3510 S. & 111 N.

Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of people.

Thanks for inviting this shit across our threshold Rahm.

Oh well... There's nothing the Blue Suits can do to fix it other than stay in deep survival mode.

Let the people in charge own this mess even though they fall over each other trying make the Blue Suits the owners of this shit show.

The computers have been screwed for years. Aira does not transfer to arrest reports. evry computer has had some glitch since the new hot desk has risen on Iclear. New ppo's cant log in to any computer. Pdt's have wrong dates and times on them which transfers to Aira and no time frames on most aira applications in the squads. Thats if your lucky the computers even working. Yea we're shittin bricks. Hand written arrest reports remember those old reports.

Someone posted here mentioning "Aira." If you're using Avira Pro antivirus (with a red umbrella), they had a major malfunction recently with a signature update that disabled computers by wrongly detecting viruses in every file. This started Monday or Tuesday 5/14 or 15. The problem is fixed by updating Avira again, though to do that, you might have to boot Windows into "Safe Mode" to disable Avira first.

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2404515,00.asp

I'm not sure who said the computers were hacked or what evidence or expertise they have, but I'm suspicious that it may be a wrong guess. If you've been hacked, you probably wouldn't be seeing virus alerts everywhere from it.

Somehow, by some storage quirk of science and the alignment of the sun, moon and stars, I and many other police officers were able to whip out an arrest report, on paper, in quite a bit less time than the modern police people can do it on 21st century state-of-the-art computers. And not complain about it. I never knew how bad I had it until I hear the modern police complain bitterly about computer problems.

The worst that would happen to me with a paper report is someone would spill some coffee on my report. If not too soaked I would use it anyway.

And somehow, in spite of our prehistoric technology, we used to arrest people and get back on the street in not too much time, if it wasn't a complicated case. The most we had to complain about was if a tact guy or detective would throw our arrest report in the garbage and do another one, with new names in the arresting officer's box.

And if a desk sgt or WC told you to do a new one and put this, that or the other in you did it without argument or you wouldn't get a day off for six months. And the union, when there was one, wouldn't hold your hand and file grievances against the mean old sgt or captain.

Damn did we have it bad. No A/C in the cars, crank windows, and the Captain was, for all practical purposes, God, to the blue shirts, for if you crossed him you were banished to police hell.

But brother, did we have laughs and a good time and if you enjoyed locking people up, there was no shortage of assholes begging to go to prison.

It was a simpler time.

Andy Thayer in action

You gotta see this quintessential pic of Andy Thayer in his element. Marching down the hallway with a permit -- a permit in his hand! -- and a retinue of breathless followers.

Even the stone lion at the right doesn't like him. Snarling like a firehouse dog.

It'd take a chunk out of him if it could.

OT, 019 3rd watch warrant car.

5/17/2012 03:11:00 AM

We used to have a warrant car, until one semi bright supervisor realized that you didn't need to devote 2 P.O.'s entire tour to looking for warrants, which often times they came in with nothing. Instead, each day he printed out the active warrants and made copies and handed them out in roll call and sometimes posted them on the wall. This way everyone knew who was wanted every day. So instead of just two eyes looking for them, the whole watch was. Got way better results and freed up two more p.o.'s to work a beat car, etc..

Megalomaniac Andy Thayer is actually appearing in a forum, NATO pro/con at Pritker Military Library on Michigan Ave tonight -- only 100 tickets.

“We were contacted by the National Strategy Forum a few weeks back who said that they wanted to set up a dialogue between ourselves and NATO...” said Thayer.

"We?" "Ourselves?

>pfft<

The guy refers to himself in the third person, as though he were Emperor Of Japan or something.

Anyway, heads-up, possible trouble spot with Andy's fan club outside, 104 South Michigan Avenue.

Working Special Employment downtown as I type this. BELIEVE me when I say the protestors are here, and they're here enmass. Walked by several groups of obvious 20-something "hipsters", a jagoff from one group that made it a point to be heard. His exact words were "these pigs have no idea what they're in for". I looked him dead in the eyes and told him "I hope the cop that kicks your liberal ass looks something like me". You could see and feel the energy these goofs are emitting, just champing at the bit ready to do what they're here for. They looked like your dog does when he knows he's going for a walk cuz you got his leash in your hand, but you make him wait, spinning in circles in nervous, excited energy. The fuse has obviously been lit and these assholes are waiting to go Boom this weekend. Ive been cautiously optomistic all the time leading up to this shit storm, even dismissing alot of things, but these clowns made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. ****IMPORTANT****

When Rahm went to Springfield recently legislators he wanted to speak to were called to Springfield from their home district on a day's notice. Apparently Rahms feels no one in Illinois has much of a life so he can snap his 9.5 fingers and make them sit and listen. Pronto.

The problem was, there was no there there. Rahm spoke of the things he wanted, in the most general terms, 5 years more before retirement, 5% extra in contributions etc.

Rahn was woefully short on specifics, he couldn't explain who these changes would pertain to. Police? Fire? Teachers? Truck Drivers? Who exactly? Also who would pay the extra 5% into "the pension fund?" And which pension fund. Again, Rahm has no details, he would have to get back to them on that.

Finally, he was asked if he had anything in legislative form to present, which they assumed was the reason they were called to Springfield on a day's notice.

No, Rahm had nothing prepared to present to the legislature. Just bullshit for the evening news.

They caught on and asked that Rahm not waste their time until a bill was being introduced.

So officers, no bill was introduced. This time. But expect something from the evil one. Soon.

We are likely headed for a court fight if he tries any of the shit he proposed. It was much more to shake our tree and again pit us off against taxpayers.

So no pensions will be stolen this week, we can all take a breath. Rahm's trip to Springfield was nothing more than crap to put on the nightly news to get city employees all shook up.

Still, a battle is coming so it is time to get on the phone and call your Illinois State legislator.

Here is the phone number of the hotline to get instructions on basically what to say and get connected to the correct legislative office. Make the call.

1-888-412-6570

And please, VOTE. The entire state legislature is up for election this fall. If you have refrained from voting because you don't want to go to jury duty, time to get involved. Register to vote and then, on election day. VOTE.

We must vote on one issue this time, PENSIONS. Not Republican or Democrat but PENSIONS.

The pension you save might be your own.

I really hate to say it...... But the IT staff couldnt write a piece of code to make a webpage. Known this for years. Full of political hacks pretending to show their ignorance.

Its quite easy to penetrate the system, but since they have open the site to the internet (directive site, and other city dept sites,) they have left a back door open....oops!

Go ahead, tag my PC #, heck check my MAC or IP address ....... Because I would never think about any stupid acts of idiocy or illegality ....... But remember there are people out there, who hate the police, the system, criminals out there who would love to get their hands on information ..... Enter the protesters for NATO (probably probing, pen-testing for months)

Yes be wary of the flash drives or email forwarding to your private/home PC. An anti-virus may not be enough...worms are not detectable till the start doing "some" damage. Use multiple antivirus programs to sweep.

5/17/2012 04:53:00 AM

************

Any particular reason why SCC is letting these shithead Emanuel tools post their bullshit here trying to panic everyone with no actual authority to accomplish the bullshit they claim?

Hey dipshit, the City's false claims of destitution have zero bearing on mutual funds privately administered with your funds. If anyone refuses to let you use your deferred comp as an asset it's because of the overall bullshit markets being controlled to continue the bullshit austerity moves being pulled against the working class in this country, not anything that has shit to do with city finances.

If you're stupid enough not to have moved the bulk of your deferred comp OUT of the market and into a fixed account years ago, you're gonna have to work for years more until it comes back.

The city hasn't got shit to do with deferred comp or a financial entities decision not to let you use it as an asset, especially when it could be worth nothing tomorrow.

Maybe a decade ago mortgage companies could bullshit underwriters into thinking your comp was an asset. Under today's new rules, you're lucky they let you use a savings account as an asset.

Try being less in debt, maybe they'll give you the loan.

By Contract Rules, You can't work outside if you're a Bid Desk, this conflicts with someone who wants to work the desk that isn't eligible due to that Bid you were granted, however a Reliefer can.
