$1 Million Pissed Away
Despite skepticism that’s been voiced by police Supt. Garry McCarthy, the Chicago Police Department announced plans Tuesday for its first-ever partnership with the CeaseFire anti-violence group.
CeaseFire will get $1 million through the city’s Department of Public Health to target crime in two Chicago police districts under a pilot program, to begin July 13.
The money will put 20 additional CeaseFire workers in each of those two districts.
But here are some of the entertaining parts:
Privately, some Chicago police officials say they worry about CeaseFire staffers continuing in a life of crime.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported last month that six of them have been charged with crimes over the past five years while on the CeaseFire payroll.
Tio Hardiman, the head of CeaseFire Illinois, responded that he fires staffers when he learns they engaged in criminal activity. He described the six former CeaseFire workers mentioned in the story as “bad apples,” saying every organization including the police department has them. They constitute less than 2 percent of the 300 staffers hired by CeaseFire, according to the group.
Sources say the partnership with CeaseFire is being driven by City Hall — and not the police department.
Less than 2%? Impressive. Now how about some one in the media total up the number of coppers who have gotten in trouble over the past few years. Even if it ends up being 100 coppers (which it isn't anywhere near) that's less than 1%.
Now try that with the aldercreatures. Or former Illinois governors. Oops. Not so impressive all of the sudden, is it? And Rahm is taking advice from everyone except the coppers as far as CeaseFire goes.

Police sources said CeaseFire initially balked at some of the department’s demands, including requiring CeaseFire workers who learn of brewing violence to notify the Chicago Police Department and having CeaseFire undergo the same sort of tough evaluation that police commanders are subjected to under the department’s CompStat system.
The agreement made public Tuesday included the CompStat requirement, but not the reporting requirement.
“We are not going to be informants or snitches for nobody,” Hardiman said when asked about it Tuesday.
And we love how Wysinger is out front on this one. Either (A) McCarthy is having nothing to do with this, (B) Al is being groomed to take over the number one spot in short order or (C) Al is being set up as the fall guy should Tio and his followers prove as inept as supposed by ourselves and many others.

"Just days after losing its state funding, the prominent violence-prevention program CeaseFire was criticized Wednesday in a report by the Illinois auditor's office for not effectively keeping track of millions of dollars during the last three years.CeaseFire officials say the problems the audit uncovered reflect the inherent pitfalls of operating a street-level organization that enlists former gang members to mediate disputes and often saves lives. Officials with the group, the largest of its kind in the city, say there has been no mismanagement of money, only incomplete accounting, which they are working on improving." Chicago Tribune.
The 2010 Annual Report for Cease Fire reveals that the organization had a budget of $14,920,730. The list of donors was impressive. Chicago White Sox $25k; IL Dept. of Corrections $5 million; Oprah Angel Network $100k; The list goes on and on.

Old timers will remember that in the 1960's the federal government pumped millions of dollars into inner city "social organizations" to help them assimilate into main stream society. Off the topic but everyone needs to know that SWAT doesn't have take home cars anymore. That means we have to respond from home in our civilian vehicle. What that means in terms of time, at least an hour. I'm not risking getting into an accident by blowing a light and being sued. Slow response time in case you need us. Not our fault. Also FOP took off the table SWAT getting Sgt's pay. This was promised to us almost 5 years ago. Another reason to turn off my blackberry when we get called out. Sorry but don't expect too much out of SWAT this summer.

My case report for a 041a is now gonna read: victim related ceasefire interrupter so and so was present just before vict heard shots and felt pain, when r/o questioned said interrupter he stated "I ain't no snitch". Vict given VIN.

Just read the post about IL Dept. of Corrections donating $5 million to ceasefire- wtf?!?!?!?!?!? Can someone verify that because I'd love to know where the hell our bankrupt state pulled the money for that one!! EVERY tax paying citizen should be OUTRAGED that this city is PAYING GANGBANGERS to conceal and protect the names of those responsible for murder. HERE'S HOW IT WILL RUN!
First Rham gives ceasefire $1m to stop gang violence in two police districts.
Ceasefire tells gangbangers to move their turf into other districts.
Then ceasefire says it stopped violence in two districts.
Ceasefire says they need more money to spread out across the city to quell the violence in other districts.

Your the handjob!!! We wear close to 50 pounds of gear in some of the worst weather. We have to train all the time in that weather not to mention we are on call all different hours. We don't get an extra dime. The Marine Unit, Bomb and Arson and Crime Scene guys get extra pay!!!! Yeah there's some perks like an hour to workout but we have to stay in shape because we have to take a fitness test every three months. Our job is dangerous because you call us. We are the 911 for police officers. You can laugh and joke but it's true. So fuck off!!!!

This is just plain crazy!! A million dollars to hoodlums!!!! While our taxes and water bill goes up!!! I was laid off along with other nurses from the dept of public health before Christmas with an explanation and no money for you!! Never mind the moms and babies we saw!! I guess a gangbanger deserves a second chance and a working and tax paying nurse doesn't !!!!! And don't get me started on this Health reform bill !!!!
