Speed Cameras Arriving
- Mayor Rahm Emanuel put out a call to companies interested in bidding for the city's speed-camera business, providing the first detailed look at how Chicago plans to operate the system.
Speed cameras can be installed in up to 300 areas in the city, which would allow the administration to cover nearly half of Chicago. The city intends to install a minimum of 25 cameras over the life of the contract, according to the request for proposals, and no more than 50 in the first year.
The city is looking to sign a five-year contract with a vendor. It's also willing to extend the contract to up to three two-year periods — making it a potentially lucrative long-term deal. Red-light cameras generated $69 million for the city in 2010, and speed cameras likely would increase ticket revenue considerably.

I hope the people take proper action with this
Increasing taxes not avoidable. Fees for running a red light or speeding are avoidable. With traffic enforcement especially speeding enforcement in the city non existent, I have no problem with these cameras being everywhere. Dont like it dont speed.
Hilarious!
Six to twelve years to install just 300 cameras.. Not much of a hurry to "save the children" now is he?
Streets and sans don't have the qualifications to install these things so we need a clouted vendor to give a contract to?
Same shit. Just sign a 100 year parking meter like deal. You need the money Rahmy. Eff the future. By the time the bills come in you'll be long gone out of the country I'll wager.
Thank God I live less than a mile from the suburbs. I do most of my shopping there anyway. Now I really have no reason to drive in the city. Screw the city and screw Rahm.
This gives Vanecko Speedlights, LLC a chance to file their corporate papers just in time to get the contract!!
It's for the children.
Then they'd better double-up and install a "Crime Camera" to accompany each of these things.
Because I can say without equivocation that these revenue-generating picture-takers will be summarily destroyed or disabled under the cover of darkness by roving bands of fed-up taxpayers.
Myself included.
Guaranteed... I'm not spending another fucking penny in the shitcago hole... fuck you tiny dancer...no more cash grabs
Yup they will all be on the northside were the working idiots will pay them!
I wonder which Daley relative wil get the contract ????!!!!
We're doomed, doomed I tell ya !!
Will any of that money go to fund the city's pension obligations?
Or to maintain Maggie's Flowers?
Please believe a connected vendor has been sitting in the wings for this contract. These assholes don't go to the yellow pages to find someone to do their work.

Funds for 25... That's all? What have to do to be one of the chosen few? ~ by the time the city gets the money I'll be to old by then~ FML.....
You bet ... Just one more reason NOT to go into the City.
Talk about a town that's desperate for money and will lie to get it.
"Driving taxpayers out of Chicago, one camera at a time."
If the city and county PO's actually engaged in pulling people over for moving violations then speed cameras would never have been suggested.
Every ticket handed out will be a future vote against Rahm and the alderman of that Ward. Every one.
When tyrants threatened the colonies, patriots gave them a Tea Party. Those were true Americans. I'm not sure we have any more. Slaves who choose to wear chains by voting in tyrants will just sit back and take it.

You are a complete idiot. You are exactly the type of gutless slave these politicians want for subjects. I think they should install a camera in your house to watch every step you take. if you're not doing anything wrong, you don't have anything to worry about. Right? Pussy.
6/26/2012 12:08:00 AM
You are either a byciclist or an idiot! Maybe both.
Why doesnt our CPD Pension should buy this for a 5 year contract???? I think it would be a great investment!
What will this city do if everyone actually drives the speed limit?
Did I mention my plate covers are arriving too. So you'll still need actual real police officers to stop me in traffic to give me a ticket... unfortunately you're running out of those since your cheap ass won't hire any cops. So you can take your little speed cameras and stick them right up your ass because they won't be taking any pictures of my plates.
Why don't they just show up at your house with a gun and rob us? Same thing.
Ethics Board Tells Cook County Assessor To Fire Relatives
The Cook County ethics board has ordered the county's assessor to fire two of the three relatives who work in the government tax office.
Joe Berrios was elected in 2010 to run the office. The Chicago Sun-Times reports the ethics board determined Berrios violated his fiduciary duties as well as a prohibition on hiring relatives laid out in the county's ethics ordinance.
The report, signed by ethics board chairwoman Roseann Oliver, concluded the hiring by Berrios of his family members as county employees undermined the public trust.
The ethics board recommends Berrios fire his son, Joseph “Joey” Berrios, from his job as a residential analyst and his sister, Carmen Berrios, as director of taxpayer services.

WOW!
Someone forgot to tell the Ethics Board that Cook County Democrats are above the law!
Oh, well. I'm sure the relatives will land another well paid government job somewhere else with the state, county or city.
It's the (corrupt) Chicago Way, after all!
Doesn't the city have cameras that detect gunfire? Whatever happened to those???
That is proof that cameras can't protect anyone.
Not that I want anyone to be injured, but I'll laugh at the first incident that occurs after these cameras are up.
To me.... Even ONE injury/death near the speeding cameras is enough to call the plan a failure, and the system should be dismantled to relieve the burden of taxpayers/voters.

Are you one of Rahm's wonder child staffers trying to sound like a "working man"? Your a douchebag
"I have no problem with these cameras being everywhere. Dont like it dont speed."
I don't like it, but we plan on moving in the near future because of nickle and dime crap like this. This will not prevent any accidents. The city could care less about the kids, they want the $. If the city cared about kids they would fix the schools.
This was the straw that broke the camels back far as to deciding if I should remain in the city. Emanuel has effectively declared war on the citizens of Chicago. I will not allow him to control my life any further. I sold my house and now live out of state. I know of two other families that are in the process of doing the same thing because of this. As Uncle Ted said Sunday, fuck you Rahman Emanuel!
It's amazing how we have the funds to pay some connected vender for overpriced cameras, but the city doesn't have the funds to pay its share of the pension funds mandated by the courts. I can not stand this city and when I retire will not spend one cent of my pension funds in this city let alone this state.
I'm leaving the job in 24 months. I purchased a house to move into when I retire OUTSIDE the city and county. They just don't get it. I'm taking my pension, investments, and revenue with me. They are forcing us out because we are tired of the crime, traffic, fines, and fees. Good luck getting the welfare class to spend the money I did here.
I used to love this city, born and raised. Now I like the suburbs more and more and I like other states two times as much as I like the suburbs. The crime is rampant, and the honest people are the only ones that the law screws over. You think some gangbanging thug is going to pay a speeding ticket? I hope Chicago fails because of what these elected officials have done. No casinos because one guy doesn't want them? No ccw because a few politicians don't want it? Who the hell are you to control what millions of people are for, because you don't like it!?! Karma is a bitch.
Durbin the turbin was with tiny dancer at yolk in the south loop. I wonder what they were plotting. No body guards. Hhhhhmmm
Nothing but a money grab! Just wait and see how this is going to gridlock the city. It's not easy doing 15 MPH in a zone, try it for real one time. Go ahead try it.
save money reduce aldercreatures from 50 to 20 , city of big shoulders can operate fine with less aldercreatures .
Hey, the hell with it. Just lease every intersection in the city so there can be red-light cameras, stop-sign cameras, and speed cameras for the next 75 years in consideration of one billion dollars. That will fix everything.
No? But that is what shanks and Paul Volpe did with city street parking and look how wonderful it worked for us.
Honestly, how is it that shanks and Volpe are not being prosecuted for malfeasance or being chased out of the state by angry mobs?
it would be very interesting to know who is connected in this deal.would it be asking too much to pay the pension fund what its owed? but rahm would rather reward his cronies. rahm takes us for granted cause he knows there not a thing we can do, except vote. and we are not very good at sticking together.
Anybody else notice how many of the side streets now have 20mph posted? The fix is in. I know it's not possable but it sure would be nice if the camera folks told rhammy to gfy & that they refuse to be part of the highway robbery of the "tax payers". That $$ would buy the kids a pair of shoes, maybe dinner on the table with the family instead of Dad never being able to sit down to dinner with the kids because DAD has to work the 2nd job to make ends meet. Then Dad gets hammered trying to hurry home & hit the shower before the job. It's all about the children afterall.
Put the cameras in the ghetto where every fuckin piece of shit car is a rock ride with the wrong plates. I'm sure they'll be lining up to pay.

Well, Rahm, that's because YOUR car is exempt from those silly little speeding cameras, so of course it doesn't matter to YOU.
I see an uptick in business for the companies that sell sprays, license plate covers etc. that proclaim to defeat those damn cameras!
Hope the public outrage is enough to dump this Mayor. Can we do a recall for Mayor of Chicago?
5: 16 am. These carmeras have NOTHING to do with po's not pulling people over, knuckle head! These cameras are being put in place to make rahmulus and his cronies Money. The cameras are going to be placed in a park /school area, where the tax base is basically all city employees. Bet 100 dollars, these cameras will be nowhere near U of C lab school, ravenswood school, washington park, etc. So please stop blaming po's for bullshit, such as this and get your head out of your ass. Read and listen, parking meters, skyway, street intersections, in the city, chicago park district parking and streets are all city assets being sold and not to the highest bidder. The conflict of interest is mind boggling. Sell the tax paying citizen and the city out, bit by bit, then get a job with the very company you sold any future city earnings too. Bet your life these cameras will always work, unlike the blue light, cta and gunfire detector cameras.
Does anyone really think the contract won't go to Redflex after the VERY close relationship between Rahm Emanuel, Mr. Goldner and Redflex which helped get him elected?
Millions of dollars that should stay in the Illinois economy will to to Redflex in Arizona, with some of those dollars going on to Australia. This is JUST what the Illinois economy needs at these tough times ... NOT !
The cameras will be located ONLY where the posted limit is set artificially low for the conditions, it is the only way the cameras are profitable. See the science on our website.

Shorten the yellow light to about 2 seconds. Other cities have done it, no reason for Chicago not to.
Meanwhile because the mayor and city council dragged their feet on implementing this newly signed law....

Seriously?
Pretty myopic view I'd say.
The cost of fines or the cost of increased travel times will have a trickle down effect throughout the economy. Anyone that has the ways or means to pass this cost onto others will do so. It's likely to show up in delivery and service cost everywhere.
What time are we closing down the beaches on Thursday 06:00??
Don't go near the water it's hot out and CFD may not be able to get to you!
Drive in reverse for the chilluns...and shop in Lake or DuPage.
I almost only ride my bike in the city, but when these cameras go up it will be a fun game to see how many of these get destroyed and by what implements
In the UK these cameras are despised and often get a stack of tires wrapped on em a burnt up, I don't see that happening here but maybe....drill a small hole and fill Er up with expanding foam?, jam some match sticks and super glue in the service locks? Rahm knows no ones going to put up with these. In his bid requirements the cameras must be able to detect pedestrians In any direction atleast 250ft away
Prediction, redflex wins bid for cameras
I will route myself around the cameras. Just like I do now. No problem side streets will need many pot holes fixed. Little Tommy Byrne will be busy after these cameras are in. These cameras will get you one way or the other. If you see you have 3 seconds to get past the red light then you speed up and they get you for speeding. If you dont speed up the guy behind you will rear end you and the guy in front of you will slam on the brakes and you slam him. Screwed either way. Start hitting the peoples pocket book Da Rahmmy will pay in the end. No White House for him!

Can I send you the bill for my undercarriage damage when I tear off my transmission pan DOING THE SPEED LIMIT over a speed hump? You don't have to speed to f&&k up your car.
Would love to see the city set up random roadblocks and check for license , registration and insurance. Can you imagine how many impounds and how many arrests would be made. How many guns and drugs recovered ? Most people would be amazed how many traffic violations our Chicago criminals accumulate since those are just more laws to ignore. The only hope this city has is to start coming down hard on all law breakers . I know you guys arrest them , our problems come after that with the State's Attorneys office and the judges and the courts .Criminals , especially repeat violent ones need to be in jail and any tools needed should be used , including no license , registration or insurance.

I'm with you there but left the city 8 summers ago.. I have never felt such relief... However.. with QUINN in office ..taxes increased.. thinking of leaving the state.. Only reason for me to go into the city now is to visit my daughter.. but she will be moving out soon to.. that will make a total of 4 families who in the last 10 years have left the city they and their ancestors were all born and raised in thanks to DEMOCRATS and the CORRUPTION..
Every ticket mailed out is one that they don't need to pay a Copper to write.
Wonder if they'll actually take a calibration.
Will there be provisions for calibrating externally like a traditional RADAR? Doubt it.
I hope some legal eagles challenge the hell out of these costing the City a fortune.
Watch the tax dollars flee the city. Productive folk don't like to be bothered with the anal wallet probe this will be.
The union's should be filing law suits to force the city to use all the speeding camera money to fund the CITIES UNDERFUNDED PENSIONS........What say you Shields......
Could windup being Rahm's Waterloo thou!
One can only wonder what it will take to disable these new devices.
We watched the red-light cameras at Fullerton and Kedzie with interest over a period of two years as locals systematically re-arranged the strobes and "re-aimed" the cameras to non-traffic points of interest.
After a couple of years of maintenance to correct the view of the lens and re-point the strobes on a regular basis the cameras suddenly went away.
Remember, re-focusing the area the lens sees, and re-aiming the strobes is not destruction or vandelism - it is technical support and good maintenance and technical support should always be provided for high-end electronic equipment.
No paint necessary, just a hoodie, a large blanked to cover the device during maintenance, and something to "loosen" it so it can be aimed to a more appropriate location.
Bird watching and some really interesting ATM machines come to mind off the top of my head . . .
Www.hideplate.com I got mine last week. Fuck this job.
I'm moving out of this city/county (god willing) in the next 6 months. My family has been here for generations but I can't take it anymore. I already buy everything (including gas) in the suburbs or on trips out of state, so it won't make a terrible difference now, but buying a car will sure be cheaper.
Too many problems to list here, and like in Atlas Shrugged..there's no beating the corruption. The best thing you can do is take your productivity elsewhere and let the chips fall where they may. Non-taxpayers can't afford anything, and so eventually they will starve or devolve into savagery without government help, and the government is broke so...
