Off Duty Thwarts Robbery
- A Chicago Police officer who was off duty interrupted an armed robbery of a Near West Side gas station last night – foiling it and catching the culprit, police said.
Donald Davis, 23, of the 7600 block of South Morgan Street, was charged with attempting to disarm a peace officer and attempted armed robbery, police said. - As the officer was trying to place him into custody, Davis tried to disarm the officer and escape but the officer was able to keep control of the weapon and detain Davis with the help of the staffer, the report said.
Sounds like Donald could have used a little extra "ventilation."
Regardless, nice job Officer.

Excellent job!
OT: If the tribune is so hesitant to publish the race of the suspects in almost every story (because it isn't relevant to the story), especially the wilding attacks, why is it every one of the 9 mugshots in tonight's breaking news section was Black? Should'nt they just report the story with no graphic?
I'm just sayin . . . .
donald davis in cook county, maybe boot camp or out in about 5 years--- donald davis in another county, maybe a 15-20 year pop--- thats why all these assholes come here, its criminal friendly in cook county....
great job by the odpo first and foremost. secondly i'd like to point out the tact team stealing the arrest away from the watch. nothing new but i thought tact guys knew how to do paper
I saw the store surveillance video, priceless!!! Job well done officer! Bad guy is lucky to not be in his grave.
Good job officer and great back up from the guys and gals in 012 that responded!!
Ditto, a brave and selfless act.
Nice work, Brother!
The only thing the off duty did that was wrong was he didn't send that shitbirds for a dirt nap in boneyard city.
That the Officer fended off this scum trying to grab his gun...well, it's a huge relief to hear this happy ending. So joyful for this Officer, all his loved ones and the CPD!
Please stay safe!

The Off Duty Copper should have shot the robber in the head! A third eyeball for the robber would have been alot better outcome and save taxpayer monies for taking care of this piece of shit!
As it is, the robber will get 'double secret" probation from some Liberal piece of shit judge in Crook County!
Da Pelon
The tac team didn't steal it, the wagon had the pinch and didn't want it, since they were going home shortly..
good job officer.
Great job! I live nearby and frequent that gas station. We appreciate you officer. Thanks-a neighborhood resident
I heard that the call taker was an idiot. Clerk calls 911 says he just got robbed and police if fighting with the offender. Call taker was giving clerk a hard time and asked to speak with the police officer!!
Police officer: "Timeout shithead. The fucking idiot call taker wants to talk to me to verify that this is really happening and where. So put down your gun, let me talk to her and once I'm done, we can continue fighting."
Shithead: "Um, ok."
Always take your piece off duty, a .380 is a good off duty carry,,,,,I once ran into shit by Woodfield and had to pull my 5 shot to get shithead to back down.
Another fine 006th dist citizen! Where Fr. Pfleger? I'm sure Donald worked for St. Sabina when he wasn't committing robberies!
OUTSTANDING WORK OFFICE!!!!! The right place at the right time. No doubt saved the life of the clerk, who obviously was very grateful and jumped in to help when the shithead resisted and attempted to disarm the officer. Citizens really tired of this shit from these turds are starting to stand up and fight back!!!
Give that man a DC or HM on the south side.

Daddy wants one for Christmas! But I bet mommy won't buy him one :(
Outstanding job and courageous work by that off duty. Just wish those tac guys coulda shown some courtesy and let the people that put the cuffs on the shithead handle it instead of stealing it and trying to look like they're the heroes. We need more people like that off duty on this job.
Tac guy M.G. did a great job, since he was working 10 99!

I could see why you would be pissed if it was a watch pinch, but it was a pinch by the ODPO. If the coppers who put cuffs on him didn't take the pinch in then thats on them. Basically everyone besides the ODPO is an assisting officer and riding on HIS coat tails for what ever award he deservingly receives.
To 1:49pm,,,,,very simple to get your point across.....just say "call 911 and tell the call taker. 10-1 and give the address and keep giving it until the police arrive",,,it worked for me about 15 years ago when I caught shitheads breaking into my neighbor's house, I had my wife call from the house phone and had them at gunpoint for the longest three minutes of my life until 1610 and 1613 arrived along with a Harwood Heights Unit.
Haha. Good job MG
Good job by all the officers. Especially the tact guy working 99
Again, the wagon cuffed him and handed him to tac, they were going home shortly, the sgt on scene made sure the off duty was box 1 arresting, and the wagon guys and tac assisting. Sgt said he was putting the odpo in for the award of valor, which he definitely deserves, very compelling video of his heroics!
Nobody steals a pinch. If they are your cuffs, it is your pinch. How you decide who all gets on the paper and in what order is up to the involved parties. We are all 7 times 3.
Why didn't he shoot him ? He basically said he thought about it because he was legally justified for a forcible felony offender trying to escape the scene but the way the department and the city like to back stab working coppers he said it wasn't worth it. He wasn't going to risk losing his pension for some shit bird. Very sad state of affairs with officers second guessing themselves in these situations.
