Evidently, there won't be any criteria for the Overtime Initiative now. Seniority will be the sole determining factor in the "weekend" special employment.

SCC, you're missing the boat here. They dropped the requirements b/c NO BODY IS VOLUNTEERING!!! So they figured they would make it as easy as possible for any schmuck to work this, even the complete dog asses. That's how desperate they are. Make them hire more police!!!

The more the fed manipulates the interest rates lower while telling you this is good for business, the more we each lose on our pensions, 401K's, IRA's and savings.
Why should any corporation or anyone trying to raise money by selling bonds for example come to the people that are managing our retirement investment accounts when we would be asking for 3,4,5,7,8% interest in return? Why do that when the Fed will loan money out for 0.25%

Therefore they're going deeper into trouble and what's the solution to this theft? HA, we each will either take a benefit cut or asked to contribute more to the plan.

You can't get 5% on a bond yield with any safety because the fed is handing out free money to the banks. It's a scam.

Well don't look over there because it's anyone with a retirement account with at least a portion invested in so-called safe instruments like bonds. Your supposed to shift your retirement investments into so-called safer bonds as you near retirement because you don't have the time to recover should you make a wrong bet in the stock markets.
False promises and now it looks like the politico's are going to try and play games until after the Nov. elections before they tackle the pension issue. They know damn well it's a hot button so they try to buy time.
Plan accordingly my friends. They are selling out our future.

Oh, I know. Let's sell that old northerly island property to China so they can put up a military base there. That's how third-world countries raises money. Start selling pieces of Illinois and Chicago. The laws are there to enable it. Eminent Domain. Just tell everyone it's "for the children" and how the money will be used for schools or maybe healthcare too.
Trickle up poverty and they will kill us all to maintain their own position on the social economic Maslow pyramid of needs. Ticketing weed is a sign of desperation for money.

I actually wanted to work it but since I'm inside all the time, my arrest history is nonexistant. Not that I'm afraid of arresting anyone, I just never get the opportunity. Why however, would they require crown cap and no cargo pants if youre going to be somewhere busy?

Yeah, I put in for the VSWO. I'm having trouble making ends meet and just can't pass up the money. Sure I'd like to spend the weekends with my family but then again I'd like my kids to continue to go to private school and play little league and hopefully even visit Disney World someday. My dad worked two jobs all his life to provide for his family and that's what I’m doing too. And when a chance at some real OT comes along I jump on it. So all of you bitching about loyalty and solidarity, acting like I'm part of the problem can go fuck yourself! I am loyal to my family first.

Our pensions are in trouble. Do we know if our fund managers only invested in bonds rather than a stock, bond mix? I know they have historically failed to invest the money in safe instruments such as bonds. Unless the just started the Fed interest rate won't impact us a much. Still,it seems that no matter what the investment vehicle, somehow we still lose more money than we make? How is this possible?
Off topic but did anyone see the front page of Fri. Sun Times. It's about fire dept. perks that supposedly cost the city millions?
Think the fact that the fire dept.'s contract is expiring and Rahm's buddies now own the Sun Times have anything to do with this story? Mere coincidence??

Gee why would anyone work there there weekend to abandoned their family? Private high school 10grand a year plus books, sports and activities. College tuition is at about 25 grand a year. Gas , food and clothing going though the roof. Like to go out with your wife now and then? Cost a lot of money. White castle and a forty don't cut that one.
I work because of my family. I choose to make their life better and wife is greatful that I do! I am also greatful that she works part time to help with bills and is raising my beautiful children. Untill this summer I was able to use comp to see my kids games and spend time with them. Now that they are college , I work towards retirement.
The city is never going to be at the strength it once was. My only response to those that don't understand is....... Some day you will!!!!!

Almost evryday this fool walks into roll call half an hour late, while the rest of my teams gets there on time. I thought old timers should set the example, but this guy does the opposite.
If you have a deck of cards with cards missing no matter how you shuffle the deck you will still come up short.

Totally agree! Last week a guy from Area 3 retired with OVER 40 YEARS ON!!!! WTF? An ET with OVER 40 YEARS on also retired! People there with 30, 40 years on, while the class of '86 are bailing at every turn. Area 3 is going to be a ghost town next year.
Sooooo many people who are just waiting to turn 50, then out. And no one is replacing the retirees, so the det's are getting hammered. It is impossible to do any type of investigation. The citizens are getting royally screwed. And so are we.
I keep hearing different rumors that you'll need 22+ years on just to get days there next year. 20+ year vets will be getting Feb/Nov furloughs.
McIdiot totally fucked things up by closing the areas. Instead of having a more even mix of ages/time on the job, EVERYONE who lives North bid for Area 3.
I don't have a problem with seniority getting extra perks but these damn assignments get eaten entirely by old timers. There are people with 18 years on the job that can't get even 1 day. I don't blame you for being greedy, if I had 25 on I'd get some myself. I blame the department for not limiting you to 2 or 3 days per month so someone else can get 1 day.
My question is, why do you want to work so many of your days off? Life is short, spend some time doing something you enjoy that isn't work.
