Oh Dear Lord

  • President Barack Obama, who's used to running the free world, will get a chance to lead a Chicago institution this year.

Obama has been slated to act as Grand Marshal for the the 2012 Bud Billiken "Back to School" parade.

This marks Obama's second run as Grand Marshal of the long running South Side parade. In 2007, Senator Barack Obama led marshaled the parade. Obama's presence at the August 11 parade comes roughly three months before voters head to the polls to decide between him and presidential challenger Mitt Romney (R-Mass).
We sense a mass cancellation of time off, furlough restrictions and maybe even a "emergency declaration" a la NATO.

The Secret Service has actually signed off on this?

UPDATE: Got to love the line, "...used to running the free world..." Seems they don't remember Obama's stated strategy of "leading from behind."

What if they gave a parade and no one showed up? Well, that might happen, because it will be too much of a hastle to get there with all the security! It will ruin the fun and tempo of the event. But he is such an out-of-touch jerk that he won't think of that. Rahm just needs to parade his buddy. Neither one of them has any heart or sense.

Who will search his supporters for weapons?

Who will be paying for the security detail? Yesterday it is reported on Drudge that it cost the taxpayers, in Boston, over $200,000to protect him while he was fundraising.

Who will be responsible for chasing the street dealers off the corners?

Will all of Bronzville, Kenwood and Hyde Park be shut down as he wanders around?

Mr. President please take your family to Monte Carlo or Paris as the taxpayers of Chicago cannot afford you and you do not need our votes but we do need jobs!

Nightmare is not a strong enough description. When President Bush walked in the 2003 St. Pats day Parade down Columbus Blvd. they ( secret Service ) required us to sweep all the parade participants along the route where the president was walking thet supplied the magnatrometers and the uniformes Scret Service people to do the sweeps. It was easier downtown because we had limited access points across Harrison St. and Balbo was closed off. fences were set up and screening points ( like the airport TSA were set up ) the press of the crowd was so large that only several thousand made it through the screening points before the president walked past that area. It is truely a nighmare of logistics. Any one who has ever worked the Bud Parade knows the difficulty keeping these folks on the curb line, Imagine the problem with Obama on King Drive a nightmare. Iam sure he will only walk for a short distance then go on the reviewing atand for a short time and stay for a while. Iam shocked if the Secret Service signed off on this one.

Check it out...did anyone see this is the news? Golly gee whiz it looks like it should be front page stuff to me!

Obama declares National Emergency and issues E.O. against Russian assets

On June 25, President Barack Obama issued a letter to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and to the President of the Senate stating that under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, he was declaring a National Emergency due to actions incurred with Russia, and the Russian Federation. The submitted letter provides a declaration to Congress of the President signing Executive Order (E.O.) 13159, and its immediate implementation.

Under this National Emergency and Executive Order, the United States is seizing assets and property owned or managed by the Russian Federation relating to nuclear items and programs tied to Highly Enriched Uranium (HEU).

The ramifications of this Executive Order, along with portions that remain classified from the public, have vast consequences for the American people. Earlier this year, President Obama updated and signed several Executive Orders that deal with the complete control and confiscation of U.S. assets, infrastructure, and manpower in the case of a declared National Emergency. As of yesterday, that National Emergency has been invoked, opening the door for any number of policies to be enacted by the President going forward.

Additionally, this action against Russia and the Russian Federation could have massive consequences for America in regards to foreign policy, and even a potential act of war should Russia see fit to perceive Obama's actions as such. With NATO and Russia both rattling sabers in the region of Syria, the possible threat of a global conflict increased with this new asset confiscation order.

Events in the Middle East, along with regime changes in Egypt, Libya, and a number of Arab states, are engulfing Russia, Europe, and the United States into a potential global conflict that could quickly grow into something not seen in 68 years. With President Obama declaring a state of National Emergency, and imposing a new asset seizure on properties owned or controlled by the Russian Federation, the ramifications for war on several fronts, along with the potential of liberties and freedoms lost to the American people has increased to dangerous levels.

General observation, no specific knowledge --

As others of long experience have recently noted here, the leadership of gangs has been fragmented, a lot of their self-administered discipline is gone, and the shorties today are so crazy they'll do ANYTHING for street cred. Gon' be locked up high power, with a red wristband...

A prudent man might count it among the security factors to be considered that this area is demonstrably not a very safe place for anyone, let alone a prominent person.

I can only have faith that the very highly-trained and competent professionals responsible for these things have carefully considered the current environment in Chicago. TV was just reporting that the wave of violence here has made the front page of the New York Times.

McCarthy is gone August 1 and Wysinger will be the new Superintendent.

In the next few weeks, City Hall will play up how terrible crime is in Chicago. Expect the Times and Trib to headline any murder drama that pops up.

Rahm told McCarthy that the Cease Fire partnership was going to happen and Garry told Rahm he would have nothing to do with it. Garry refused to be at the press conference and said he would not tarnish his reputation by taking part in this. Rahm was forced to make this announcement today after the NY Times ran a cover article about Chicago's homicide rate. Rahm again called McCarthy and basically begged him to go to the press conference. McCarthy told him No Way! Rahm was himself supposed to go to the press conference but sent a lackey because he didn't want to answer questions about McCarthy's absence.

McCarthy has basically dared Rahm to fire him. If Rahm's reporter-supporters can get the public screaming about crime, then McCarthy is gone August 1.

Chicago is going to get a whole 25 new police officers. Thank God relief is on the way

PHILADELPHIA -- Attorney General Eric Holder on Monday announced more than $111 million in funding for more than 800 law enforcement positions across the country as part of a federal program aimed at hiring military veterans.

Holder announced the funding at Philadelphia's City Hall as part of the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Philadelphia will get $3.1 million for 25 officers, one of the biggest awards in the country. Los Angeles is getting $6.4 million for 25 officers, while Chicago is getting $3.1 million for 25 officers. Overall, Holder said the money would save 200 officers from layoffs and help hire 600 more.

"We look forward to welcoming these new additions to our nation's law enforcement community," Holder told a gathering of government officials and law enforcement officers – including Philadelphia police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, a former chief in Washington, D.C., whom Holder said was "still my chief."

All the new positions funded in the COPS hiring program this year must be filled by recent military veterans who have served at least 180 days since Sept. 11, 2001, officials said.

Other awards include $1.9 million for 15 positions in Atlanta; $1.1 million for nine positions in New Orleans; and $1.9 million for 15 positions in Boston.

Elsewhere in Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh is getting $1.4 million for 13 positions; Chester is getting $625,000 for 5; and Alquippa is getting more than $107,000 for one.

In Philadelphia, Mayor Michael Nutter said the money would help the cash-strapped city in its effort to hire about 400 officers over the next year to bolster a department that has shrunk down to about 6,200 amid tough financial times. Elected officials and others at the news conference said the federal assistance for law enforcement was critical as cities struggle through difficult economic times.

"Relief is coming, it's on the way," Ramsey said, noting the plans for new hires. "We're doing all we can, but we do need the help."

Sounded good until the 04 of July part. Since P.os would be in training (and still be making Po pay) they would be forced to take day off. Or let them stay in district and postpone class where they will make time and a half. So city actually loses money by postponing it. Apparently you are not on the list. At least not by score.

I was told by counting up all the sworn title codes (9161 etc.) it's about 11,300. I find that hard to believe.

It is about 11,300. All sworn. Right now about 750 under 2012 budget, off from 13,500 high of a couple of years ago. Anyone says otherwise they're ignorant or lying.

If the Federal government can only afford a few thousand cops the USA is in it's decadence.

What a joke!

Maybe there is enough time left for him to borrow the PopeMobile from the Vatican and have it shipped over heah to ride in during the parade. Then again, he might not need it beause regardless of how he "disses" the South and Westsiders he their man and they are proud of him and they love him and to them he walks on the waters.

I'm so glad I'm retired, that's the longest parade and usually in unbearable weather. It goes on, and, on, and on........There's a lot of good people that have been attending it for years, but couldn't they shorten it?
