What's with all the phones going down? Has the city not paid Ma Bell again?
So it's now 3 months past the alleged Sgt's announcement. What could possibly still be the hold up. No word, no rumors, couple secret meritorious interviews and still nothing............. What a friking joke. Yet we have money for cease fire and have made up at least 7 new strategies. This dept has sunk along with the shitty.
A big Thanks to everybody from the 15th District that showed up so quickly and offered their help on Madison & Central last Sunday with the Aggravated Robbery crew that we followed there and grabbed.

SCC you have to put this info out there, every fri/sat/sun night supervisor from 911 calls 311 to have police officers log in as 911 call takers/dispatchers with no formal training.
this makes the wait time for 911 calls go down and make it look like we don't have to hire.
the bad part about all of this is that we are not trained call takers and are held responsible for every call that we take. I never saw this on our job description..... I Many calls to FOP were made but alot of questions unanswered.
When are they going to stop robbing Peter to pay Mary and Paul??

"First off, criminals are fully aware that Illinois' prohibition on concealed carry gives them the upper hand. Second, Mayor Emanuel and Police Superintendent McCarthy are in a hopeless state of paralysis over what to do about violent crime. This is a recipe for disaster. Criminals know you can't legally protect yourself, and they know that Chicago law-enforcement officials haven't a clue about what to do to protect good citizens from harm. Criminals are taking advantage of a bad situation – and doing a good job at it."

The Aurora, Colo., theater massacre spurred fearful consumers to arm themselves, with some gun shop owners reporting a massive spike in business.

The phone's been ringing off the hook today," said Robert Parker, owner of Parker Arms & Gunsmithing, 17 miles from the site of the rampage. "Anytime something like this happens, people are more apt to think more about wanting to protect themselves. All of those people there were just helpless."
One hour north of Aurora at Rocky Mountain Shooter Supply, gun sales were up by about 50 percent, manager Bill Cates said.
"They're just tired of being victims," he said, adding that more women than usual were purchasing guns. "They just want to be able to protect themselves if they're in a situation like that."

The problem is all the pieces of shit calling off every weekend. They don't bother putting in a slip to have the night off and just use medical time. Overtime is high, no one has an hour of sick time left, and the people who are left working are getting burnt out. Midnight's operating efficiency drops to zero once 3rd watch signs off. They are trying to cover their asses but all this does is empower the pieces of shit that don't feel like showing up everytime there is a party.
There is a certain liability to call taking and the PO's should be trained. Remember that the line is recorded, and there are hundreds of event types and DIST does not cover every situation.
I would hate to see you guys get jammed up like that, especially knowing how often they try to screw people at oemc.

Good question. Apparently, the golden child, Brett Goldstein is now in charge of the phones for the whole city including CPD. Need I say more?
What interview process? I kmow several people who have been submitted for merit Sgt and not one has had to be interviewed. So who started this interview crap?!
one contract the city goes out of its way to honor, is the one with the parking meter co. while the contract with cpd can played with. we now have something in common with the citizens in englewood, we are not very important.

Every officer we're short on the job (I think we're close to two thousand or so), is one officer that isnt putting into the pension fund, meanwhile we lose 30-40 each month that begin to take out. What's the real agenda behind the police shortage. We all know money has a major part but I wonder what master plan our mayor has with those down in Sprinfield. More peoples pockets are going to be lined with greenbacks while all the police suffer and ultimately will have to pay more out of there pockets for a less than modest pension.
In the 005th District especially around 103rd and Michigan and 113th and Wentworth, with all the capabilities the police have and with those cameras, why, just why, are they still selling narcotics on those corners?

I've noticed the same poster, across several postings, putting out a laundry list of contract offers allegedly from the city. THESE ARE ABSOLUTELY FALSE. I am on one of the PBPA (the Supervisors') negotiating committees and I will tell you that there is NO OFFER from the city to either us or FOP.
That poster is clearly from the city, testing the waters. DO NOT RESPOND TO THOSE POSTS in any way. Any responses will be used against us. Don't say, "Hey I don't like ..." or "Well, that's a great idea ..." Any response can only hurt our positions. Let the committees negotiate, don't let the city gain any advantage.
Please just ignore those posts (which, so far, everyone pretty much has been doing).

What really happened was the jagoff was mouthing off and as usual emotions got involved and the asshole caught a slap. This is why CPD has the rep it has. Other Police Depts act professionally, and while they do not take shit from people on the street, they also dont crack handcuffed offenders to "teach them a lesson". Come up with whatever excuse ya want but in my 17 years on the job I have seen alot of coward Officers tune up prisoners with the cuffs on and think they are tough as a result. Do your job with dignity and do it right. We dont have to be thugs to take down thugs. All im saying is pick a side. Well seeing as u were not called in u obviously didnt make the cut. Mceastcoast interviewed close to 30 nominees 20 for sgt and 10 for lt. Better luck next time.
