Could be a multitude of reasons, but looking at it from our side (beat officer side), we're about at a crossroad. Revenue generation via tickets is a fairly safe bet these days for us. This is because it's a prima facie case that shows we're doing a PART of our job yet gives us relative shielding from the newest form of defense tactic: suing the police because we arrested you.
While we adamantly oppose generating revenue by nitpicking the general public insomuch that it gives Emanuel more money to slush fund over to his cronies while denying the people who GAVE him that cash any and all consideration for providing it, we're still people who are willing to enforce some kind of law in this city even if our own politicians are adamantly opposed to us enforcing it when it may diminish their chances of using lax law enforcement to purchase votes from those who violate the law on a regular basis.
In the end, I would hope it's not a petty vindictive assault on our outlying neighbors. We, the police, are well aware that you provide our city with your share of revenue in other ways, and I don't hink we, the police, believe we should shit on you folks for minor harmless infractions.
The problem is, we CAN'T be the police this city needs right now because politicians have abused and blamed us for all the ills of society for so long that we now respond in a minimal, self preservation mode.
Sorry you got hit with petty police activity. It IS still a function of what we're supposed to do.
Try to find it in your heart to give us the benefit of the doubt that what you endure in police response is completely due to what elected policitians have brought upon decent society in the quest for votes and power.

Most parking tickets are written by Department of Finance or Revenue, whatever it is called now. Yes, they will stick it to you, all for the money. Yes, they are strapped for cash. No double parking anywhere. Except the west side near churches on Sundays.

The city is so hard up for money.

Dept of Revenue and the metermaids have been very busy, they write everything and everybody. Sometimes they write for shit that does not apply. They are brutal, like somebody already mentioned they hope you dont fight them, just pay them. Big city that works!

Prior to the last contract, the FOP assisted SWAT, the Evidence Technicians, IAD & a sub-unit of Traffic (I don't recall which one) in producing their presentations before the city's contract committee for raises.
They reproduced our presentation booklet, offered advice and helped us hone our presentations. They did everything short of doing the presentation for us, which in my opinion, was the right thing to do because after all, we're the experts in our respective fields, right?
None of us got the raise we fought for. That's not FOP's fault. That's the city's fault for not recognizing the value of these units and the job they do.

rb if you are on SWAT let's make a couple things clear for you highly skilled SWAT operators. You guys volunteered to be on call. You receive more training and equipment then anyone else. You work out on company time and don't make arrests. Your always at the Gold coast doing nothing and you want D2 or D3 pay for what? How about thinking of the other 10,000 officers and stop being selfish. The city is gonna try andvrape us FOP has to concentrate on the masses not thecselect few with a phone call. Now go read your Blackhawk magazine and order more gear with the money your making in overtime from search warrants or responding to HBT jobs. FOP shouldn't even be considering you guys for anything extra. Just like the Sgts getting an extra 45 minutes a day for nothing If you don't like it rb then pick a district. Come work in 005 with me. We have a beat car you can use anytime you want. Will even let you do a presentation for us on all the cool training you received and all your cool gear.

This is such a stupid response about volunteering to be on swat. Didn't the po's volunteer to be on k9, marine unit, mounted unit, fto, et and any other officer making d2 pay. So if we don't deserve it then neither do they and it should be taken away. As far as being in the gold coast did you ever think there is a sort car assigned in 1/18 because there is a higher likely hood of a terrorist attack in those districts than anywhere else. Or would you rather us just seat in the office waiting for the call like the bomb techs making Sgt's pay. Stop being jealous and try out next time, it's probably the only legit test given by the department and Zero merit!

He does have a point. All those other units do get extra pay. SWAT doesn't get anything extra for putting our lives on the line. Yes we do get to workout but our gear is heavy. We do have to train in harsh conditions and we are the last line of defense for the street cops. I know some people are haters of us cause we are the only legit unit on CPD but it's the truth.
If you believe SWAT is a legit unit, you voted for Obama.
