Pension Board Opening

In the October FOP Newsletter, some guy announces he won't be running for Pension Board Rep again:
  • On a more personal note, I wanted to inform each of you that I have chosen not to run for re-election as a Pension Board Trustee. This was not an easy decision as I really have enjoyed working for you at the Pension Fund. I have seen first-hand the effect our Trustees have, and I was incredibly honored to serve in that capacity. Litigation against our Pension Board has dropped by about seventy-five percent during my term in office. I would like to think it is because we are on the right track. Likewise, the elected officers of the Board have become more unified and are a force to be reckoned with when dealing with the Mayor’s appointed Trustees.
Quite frankly, it was obvious to most observers that attempting to handle both jobs was something beyond the capacity of one human being, and as a result, both offices have suffered.  The petty jealousies and politicking have diminished the offices and led to weakness and poor communication where strength and unity of purpose would have been a better tact.

Hopefully, a strong and independent candidate will come forward for the coming battles.

They stole, borrowed against, poorly invested and mismanaged our funds for 20 years. CPD's hiring freeze for years lessoned the contributors too. We made our payments on time every two weeks. All we want is whats ours if we make it after working 25+ yrs in the hell hole. Its nothing glamerous, a modest pension if you ask me. Barely able to survey after retirment pension but they make us out to be the bad guys living large. They want to pretend that everything they did to our pension is in the past and sweep it under the carpet like it never happend and now we're going to get hit even harder if Springfield has there way. All the while the lazy dog ass SSI and Welfare leaches spend there whole lives unemployed by choice and live life like as if they were on a fully paid lifetime vacation. Digusting!!!

We better get some good representation on the pension board. It appears besides thrying to hurt current po's regarding their pensions, the citys plan to try and freeze the COLA to retirees for 10 years will really cost the retirees. This is something they were promised and paid into the pension every month while the city failed to keep the end up. A retiree who retirees at $67,000 will lose over $110,000 in benefits over that 10 years. Thats some sharing of the sacrifice and after 10 years if hes still aLIVE WILL STILL BE AT $67,000

Nation of Laws and Broken Windows?

What kind of message are we sending?

The process of politicians picking and choosing who the laws apply to continues...

Jeffrey Zients, White House Budget Chief: Don't Send WARN Act Layoff Notices Before 'Fiscal Cliff'

And even though the law requires businesses to provide advanced notice for a mass layoff under the WARN act the White House says eff that law man. The elections are coming up are you kidding me! It's okay. If you end up in any legal battles or lawsuits because of not complying with the WARN act the White House says that the taxpayers will cover your losses for breaking the law.

Need I link the ignoring of Immigration laws, Banking laws, DOJ gun running...?

Is there any wonder that there is no job growth or business expansion? That the expansion that currently appears to exist is all fake, created by borrowing and debt and not organic wealth.

How can you compete with your competition when the politicians from the president on down are picking the winners and loses.

You get a tax break, you over there can ignore these laws and regulations we don't care.

How is that fair competition and free trade?

If you're good enough and innovative enough to put pressure on big business, so much so that they are going bankrupt. Along comes Washington, the Governor or the Mayor to bail out failure because they have clout.

I've never seen the enforcement of regulations and the laws so screwed up. This is what a third world dictatorship looks like. Not a "World-Class" superpower.

Are we upholding the laws or protecting the crooks?

Copying this from another post as I think THIS IS WHAT WE SHOULD BE TALKING ABOUT!!!!
******
Sat through the police pension hearing at the City Council today. Embarassed to have those goofs representing us. Kept sucking up to Tiny Dancer even though he wasn't there.

Ald. Tunney questioned the # of active members listed at 12,300+ and the Ex Director had to admit it is under 11,000. FINALLY!!! Someone held feet to the fire to get a straight answer as to how many cops there aren't!

THANK YOU ALDERMAN TUNNEY.

Tunney also questioned the # in the "Tier 2" plan listed at 49. He said, "I thought we'd been hiring cops. When do you put them in the system?" The Ex Dir mumbled a bit and said 2012 hires weren't reflected, just one class in 2011.

Then Tunney asked, "So how many officers are eligible to retire tomorrow with a pension." At first the Ex Dir said 3000, then revised it to 3,200 officers. Tunney's retort was, "So you're saying more than a quarter -- almost a third -- of all current officers could retire tomorrow?" "Yes" was the response.

He also questioned the performance returns and said they were low.

Cochran said cops shouldn't be worried about their pensions, they should be treated like combat veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq as that similar to what they face everyday.

Most the other alderpeeps were grandstanding.

More tomorrow, have to get to roll call. I managed to get an extra copy of the presentation so will give #s or how can I scan and email to SCC?

I understand from media reports that the fund is now only 36% funded. Fire worse @26%

This is truly amazing how no one is meaning the drive by news media is not investigating the hole that Daley put the city of Chicago in during his reign. The city neglected to properly fund our (meaning all city employee) pensions. During the nineties when the economy was so great, the city short changed our pension system. Now that the economy is in the tank…the drive by news media blames us. We lived up to our obligations and paid what was expected of us to fund our retirement and yet that same media gives the city a pass. I don’t understand why the sudden push to have us contribute more into our pension systems instead of cutting back on some programs and using that money for our pensions. The city is budgeted for 13,500 police officers and yet we all know that actually is less than 10,500. Where is the money going for the extra 3000 officers…..where is the Tiff money? NATO money? How about all the tax money collected at both airports, selling of the parking meters and skyway? Why doesn’t anyone hold the crooked politicians responsible? I don’t see the federal government asking people to contribute more into social security? Isn’t that system broke? I understand that Unions are a hot topic this election year as well as our underfunded pensions, but if the city wants us to contribute more into our pensions, that wouldn’t be a problem if the city pays us the money it owes to our pension system.

- - - -

Kind of funny - one of the "losses for breaking the law" in the WARN Act involves paying the laid-off employees their lost wages.

So, Obama shuts down the military contracts in order to save on their costs - which are hugely labor-intensive - but then tells the contractors not to make waves right before the election, and promises to pay their "losses" if they get tagged for violating WARN.

Meaning, we don't actually save any money by shutting down the contracts, and in fact we end up spending that "cut" money and then not getting whatever the contracts said we were buying.

All so B O doesn't look stupid right before the election.

A Major correction is needed here. The FOP allowed the City to forgo several large payments into the pension fund in lieu of pay raises and other benefits. It is Urban Legend that the City has just ignored paying into the fund. The only payments they missed were "forgiven" by the FOP. That's a fact.

10:43 Go take a math class, because you do not know what you are talking about You lose 2,000 the first year, the second year you lose that 2,000 plus the 2,000 for the second year for a total of 4,000 Maybe I can simplify it If you start out at 67,000 and get the 2,000 COLA every year for 10 years, at that point ten years down the line your salary would be 87,000 so for that year alone you would lose 20,000 Even in remedial math if you get paid 67,000 in 2022 instead of 87,000 which would be you salary with 10 years of COLA you lose 20,000 that year alone and 18,000 the previous year,16000 the year before, etc etc

10/03/2012 01:01:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I have to agree with the 110,000, 1043 the only guy writing stupid shit is you to make is easy for you Without COLA 67,000 for three years is 201,000 With COLA 67,000 69,000 1st year, 71,000 2nd year, 73000 third year for a total of 213,000 213,000 minus 201,000 is 12,000 over 3 years, not the 2,000 you mentioned and the gap just rises ever year and the one post said to 20,000 in the 10th year

10/03/2012 01:21:00 PM

guess math should be put on the CPD test. Commenting on the comment about only losing $2,100 a year For example take $70,000 for a present pension each year for the next 10 years you will be getting a COLA raise without compounding for a total of 10 times 2,100 for a total of $21,000 Add that to the $70,000 pension to total $91,000 in year ten. Explain to me how not getting a $91,000 but keeping the $70,000 pension is on a $2,100 lose that year Now who is writing that stupid shit 1043

Our healthcare for retirees and current employees is beyond a simple contract It is in the courts and has been since 1987 when Mayor Washington decided the city did not have to provide healthcare to the CPD Since then approx every 10 years the case comes up and up until now the city and the employees have reached a compromise or an agreement that usually lasts 10 years. 2013 is the end of the agreement and a new court hearing is set. What will happen, no one knows
The case is called the Korshak case and the last agreement was reached on April 4, 2003 to cover 10 years Im enclosing the website for the agreement
