Once Again, the Connected...

  • As vice president of the Chicago Public Library’s board of directors, Cherryl T. Thomas helps decide when new libraries are needed and where they are built.

And as president of Ardmore Associates LLC, the company she founded after leaving a City Hall post in the late 1990s, Thomas is paid to help oversee construction of those new library buildings, records show.

So Thomas helps oversee Chicago’s library system while her company is making money off the construction of libraries.
Amazing.  But don't worry - Rahm is having the Board of Ethics take a look at this.  The same Board of Ethics that Rahm recently replaced with his hand-picked people.

...and here's the guy who actually builds the libraries.

WHY DO CHICAGO TAXPAYERS PAY THIS MAN MORE THAN THE MAYOR?

"As the man responsible for overseeing construction of Chicago’s new schools, libraries, police stations and even a new harbor along the lakefront, James McConnell commands a salary from Chicago taxpayers higher than anyone at City Hall makes.

"That includes Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who recently agreed to extend to a fifth year the lucrative no-bid contract that will pay the politically connected construction-management firm where McConnell is executive vice president more than $95 million by the time it runs out next year."

Are the taxpayers demanding these new libraries? Show me who? Where?

This is more transferring of the wealth and then playing the victim later.

Oh you people just keep demanding these entitlements and we must cut your healthcare and pensions to pay for it all so we don't default on the no-bid 90 year lease agreements and contracts with our clouted friends. It's not our fault..

/sarcasm

Who's demanding these libraries, these city parks, these bike paths? Which taxpayers? Where? WE HAVE NO MONEY! They have raised our state taxes 67% and we're still losing the batter because of jackazz politicians enriching their friends.

They don't care about YOU. They don't care about me. They care about their corporate campaign donations and getting themselves re-elected and that's it!

In a few short weeks after everyone comes back from their holiday breaks we can start the next campaign fund raising cycle -- traveling on around the world on "trade missions" with nothing to show for them. Corporate fund raising dinners and more parties. Hand out more tax breaks and tell us how it's saving jobs.

Can't wait. Do any of these people do any work other than fund raising?

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wasn't there a question exactly like this on my yearly ethics test? Oh well they'll just somehow blame those damn greedy 1st responders for this.

What about the library in Edison Park on Northwest Hwy? We pay some of the highest taxes in the city and still have the crappiest library! The west side & south side have beautiful (and empty) libraries in the shittiest neighborhoods!

Libraries are a complete waste of money. In this day and age, they are unnecessary. You can afford to spend hundreds of dollars on gym shoes and rims? Spend that money on your kids and get them a laptop.

libraries used to a place of knowledge and information and quiet place of solitude
now they seem to either to be cooling warming shelter for the homeless
or indigent
they are either closed or restricted hours
mayor sweetlips touts free wi-fi for all
when we have the libraries with internet but you can't watch porn
so that put's a kabosh on that:)
used to be one had to have degree in library science to supervise one
now any yahoo with clout gets to do it the people running it problately passed highschool by the skin of their teeth if that
just a spot to keep th clout till there is another opening in a another clout job and wring $ out the taxpayer like a beach towel

That explains the quality control, floor slagging, sewage leaking, mold infested police stations the officers have to work in.

Doesn't Walsh build our libraries? It's all fair and square for a Friend of Daley-Emanuel LLC.
Limited liability to the extent the chump taxpayer foots the tab for these types of subtle corrupt maneuvers.
Just as D-V looked over real estate deals,Paddy Daley looked over sewer inspections, and how many insiders now work for LAZ?
Rahmf the Reformer- Mr. "I can do campaign work for Obama while on City time".

Just heard on WBBM News Radio that the space for the new "Maggie Daley" park is scheduled to be cleared. Get this, a spokesperson for the city says the park will be done in about 2 years. Hmmmm! haven't I heard the name of that spokesperson before? Does the name Sheehan ring a bell? Nah couldn't be!

Ardmore Associates. Look it up. Somewhere there's got to be a silent partner akin to Shortshanks.
Aside from their 'client list', here's the services they provide the taxpayer:
Construction Management
Construction Inspection
Program Management
Project Management
Civil Engineering
Land Surveying
Consulting Services

Seems they do a lot of consulting & middle man stuff.
That's a lot on the plate for such a small organization.
Another Daley/ Share the Wealth minority owned enterprise.

..and massive rebuilding will then commence. The concrete at one end will be crumbling by the time they finish pouring it at the other end.

Again.

Fraternal Order of Police President Mike Shields disclosed Monday that the ranks of 2012 retirees will top 580, breaking the old record of 570 in 2004.

Through Oct. 31, 475 officers had retired. According to Shields, an additional 105 officers met a Nov. 1 deadline to file the paperwork to take advantage of the city’s offer of premium health-care benefits for those who retire at 55.

THANK GOD HE'S NOT AT THE PENSION BOARD ANYMORE!

Reading and Comprehension
Needs Improvement

Those 105 are retiring in 2013, so the 475 who are retiring in 2012, is about average for the FOP President's entire police officer career. What a pathetic pair, the Sun Times will print whatever anyone says, no need for fact checking. Good to Know.

When was the contract reopener letter mailed

Through 31 Oct, 475 have (already) retired. A LOT more will go next week and next month. I personally know four people who are gone next week.

The only way your smugly delivered numbers work is if no on else retires through the end of the year, so why not back off and wait for the final, actual, count?
