Trooper Killed
This didn't get much coverage in Chicago - apologies to the ISP for the oversight:
- Trooper Kyle Deatherage, who recently transferred to the Illinois State Police motorcycle unit to spend more time with his young family, was struck and killed by a truck Monday morning during a traffic stop along Interstate 55 near Litchfield.
Deatherage, 32, of Highland, entered law enforcement as a Madison County sheriff’s deputy in 2004 and moved to the state police in May 2009.
Nelda Christin, an aunt, said the family was devastated by the loss. Deatherage was married to Christin’s niece, Sarah, and they have two children, Kaylee, 4, and Camden, 10 months old.
“He was a wonderful person,” Christin said. She said he switched to motorcycle duty because it allowed him to move from the night shifts to days, and see more of his growing family.
Hiram Grau, director of the state police, issued a statement saying, “Our hearts are heavy with grief, but they are also strengthened by Trooper Deatherage’s brave calling.”
Prayers only for Trooper Deatherage here please.

He was a good man who was killed serving the good citizens in this world. The Media doesn't care. His story doesn't put money in their pockets.
It is shameful to see what the Media has turned into.
God bless you trooper. The hell with the media lets all stay safe out there and go home safely. Burb copper
Its hard to find words to console the family and friends of Trooper Deatherage in their time of grief. Let them take solace that his death will not be forgotten by those that serve on the front lines every day in the name justice. God be with you and rest in peace Trooper Deatherage.

State Troopers have a tough job out on thoseroads, many distractions can cause them serious injuries, I sure hope this truck driver was doing the right thing at the time of this accident and it was just an accident instead of some reckless act. I am both a big rig driver and a police officer and see many things from both sides of the fence when driving the big truck. I alsways slow down and see if these troopers are OK out there on those big dark lonely roads. My heart goes out to all of my Brothers out there. Many blessings to his family.
I was very saddened when I read about the death of Trooper Kyle Deatherage. This young man had just returned home after helping victims of Sandy on the East Coast.
My condolences to his family, friends and colleagues at the ISP. May God watch over all of you in the days and years ahead.

He just returned from helping people out that were devastated from Sandy ....
Is Chicago sending "A" car?? ISP has our backs and have helped me personally on many stops. In my opinion, at a minimum EVERY district should send a car!
That is the very least we could do.
RIP Trooper, may GOD watch over his family and hold him in the palm of his hand.
My condolences to his fellow Troopers.
RIP Sir & may God hold you in his arms. I'm so very sorry for his young family & for his ISP family. Please know that CPD cares & is heart sick over the loss of a Brother. A Sister in Blue.
God bless the trooper and his family, we thank you for your service officer, may you rest in peace.
Thoughts and prayers to the troopers family and ALL of the men and women of ISP. Your CPD brothers and sisters mourn with you. RIP.
