Trooper Killed

This didn't get much coverage in Chicago - apologies to the ISP for the oversight:
  • Trooper Kyle Deatherage, who recently transferred to the Illinois State Police motorcycle unit to spend more time with his young family, was struck and killed by a truck Monday morning during a traffic stop along Interstate 55 near Litchfield.

Deatherage, 32, of Highland, entered law enforcement as a Madison County sheriff’s deputy in 2004 and moved to the state police in May 2009.

Nelda Christin, an aunt, said the family was devastated by the loss. Deatherage was married to Christin’s niece, Sarah, and they have two children, Kaylee, 4, and Camden, 10 months old.

“He was a wonderful person,” Christin said. She said he switched to motorcycle duty because it allowed him to move from the night shifts to days, and see more of his growing family.

Hiram Grau, director of the state police, issued a statement saying, “Our hearts are heavy with grief, but they are also strengthened by Trooper Deatherage’s brave calling.”
Prayers only for Trooper Deatherage here please.

is there somewhere donations might be offered to the family to at the very least alleviate some of the financial burden that young family is going to incure?

He was a good man who was killed serving the good citizens in this world. The Media doesn't care. His story doesn't put money in their pockets.

It is shameful to see what the Media has turned into.

State Troopers have a tough job out on thoseroads, many distractions can cause them serious injuries, I sure hope this truck driver was doing the right thing at the time of this accident and it was just an accident instead of some reckless act. I am both a big rig driver and a police officer and see many things from both sides of the fence when driving the big truck. I alsways slow down and see if these troopers are OK out there on those big dark lonely roads. My heart goes out to all of my Brothers out there. Many blessings to his family.

My condolences to the family and the family of fellow troopers. I will always be in gratitude to the troopers. They came to my rescue in the dead of winter when I was alone and had a flat tire on an icy blizzery winter night on I-55. Thank you.

Is Chicago sending "A" car?? ISP has our backs and have helped me personally on many stops. In my opinion, at a minimum EVERY district should send a car!
That is the very least we could do.
RIP Trooper, may GOD watch over his family and hold him in the palm of his hand.
My condolences to his fellow Troopers.
