Two Shot - at Gang Funeral
- Shots rang out, causing panic and chaos as hundreds of mourners were
leaving a Catholic church on the South Side following funeral services
Monday for a slain reputed gang member.
As people scattered for exits, a woman knocked Deborah Echols-Moore, 59, to the floor and fell atop her. Her shoes were thrown off her feet. When she stood back up, she fled barefoot out a door.
“When I came outside, you still can hear shooting. Boom! Boom! Boom! I still ran…people was running behind me,” the longtime CTA employee said not long after the 12:30 p.m. shooting. “You didn’t know which way to go or what to do. All I knew to do was run for my life.”
Chicago police said one man was killed, another critically injured in the bloodshed at St. Columbanus Church. Police identified both as Gangster Disciples members and convicted felons, illustrating once again the high risks of gang membership in a year in which rising homicides have brought Chicago unwanted national attention.
All we can figure is this is part of the "gang eradication" strategy McStreetlights has been talking about:
- Allow police staffing numbers to dwindle to dangerous levels;
- Watch shootings rise and the homicide rate skyrocket;
- Clean up the dead;
Results? Less gang bangers today = Less shootings in the long term.

These shitheads were not catholic and this had nothing to do with that church. The Rayner funeral home across the street occasionally rents the church when it has large funerals. The funeral director was told this was a rising music star and the guy was not affiliated since the Rayners have no qualms about turning away troublemakers. The Rayner family are pillars of that community and have been hosting cop, fire, Harold Washington, old man Stroger caliber funerals for decades. They are shaken to their core and it would be a shame for them to close up shop because the savages can't be civilized.,

I started to carry in church last year. I don't think the Lord will mind especially in light of this.
A prime example that "boxes" and "missions" don't work in policing the street. The shootings just move a block in any direction. Commanders and the Ivory Tower that let this type of thinking continue demonstrate they have no ideas to combat crime in their districts. It's an "I give up, surrender attitude." Let the police drive around and find the people commuting these crimes. To sit stationary and not be able to leave an area when there are no people is crazy. I understand the mentality, you want to keep crime away from that area. But if you are asking for production from officers you have to let them go where they can have contact with people.

What's the difference? I've met plenty of "real" catholics throughout my life. Never knew they were catholic until I saw a rosary or a picture of a saint, but as far as word and deed...no sign at all. Also met plenty of guys who only think about God when their life is in danger or they're going to trial. I haven't noticed a difference.

Wasn't a banger funeral, that guy was not bad and had cta, teacher and other middle class people attending. His cousin was the banger and was assassinated by his own gang after being in hiding but they knew they could find him at the funeral. His gang smoked him out by killing the good cousin. Savages. Doesn't break my heart. the padre didn't know any of this and just rented the church as they have for 25 years. DOn't blame the catholics for this BS.

Hey Einstein---when you criticize someone else's grammar, check your own before you post.
Learn the difference between "your" and "you're". And it wouldn't hurt to learn when to use a hyphen, as in 6-man team.

What's the difference? I've met plenty of "real" catholics throughout my life. Never knew they were catholic until I saw a rosary or a picture of a saint, but as far as word and deed...no sign at all. Also met plenty of guys who only think about God when their life is in danger or they're going to trial. I haven't noticed a difference.

Totally agree. My mother-in-law used to go to church every day, volunteered there, etc., and she was one of the meanest, most intolerant people I ever met.....not only to me, but also to whoever she couldn't boss around or who didn't agree with her.
I quit the Catholic church long ago due directly to the high number of people who were just like her.

The Rayner funeral home across the street occasionally rents the church when it has large funerals. The funeral director was told this was a rising music star and the guy was not affiliated since the Rayners have no qualms about turning away troublemakers.

I heard a female relative of the surviving banger on the radio Tuesday. Of course the family was trying to keep him from associating with elements at the funeral. According to her this moron returned to the area from out of state and renewed his relationship with his "old friends".
Why are gangs flourishing in Chicago ? They destabilize low and middle income neighborhoods. I live in 008 and am looking to move up the I-55 corridor to a suburb. Why? I am sick and tired of living amoung neighbors who allow any activity including dope sales on the block and don't bother to report any of it. No wonder the spun crime stats in the city are down. Much crime is unreported.
See these Catholics are the problem, they don't go for abortions or free sex. Now they are letting poor people use their churches for shootings. They have to to go. I think everyone just voted for that also. Who's next. I know Lutherans. They are just like Catholics, well close enough.
Despite all of the race-baiting and chest thumping going on here, I felt it was necessary to comment on this. Several CPD Bosses' children have or currently attend the school adjacent to this church. They send their children (including my own) to the best school in the area (which is, despite what many of you think NOT FREE). Believe me, if this incident occurred in YOUR neighborhood, where YOUR children were present or could have been, I don't think you would be wasting time posting on the blog. Your righteous indignation would be evident on the backside of every gang member you came across! I sincerely hope that something will be done quickly, so that incidents like this are never repeated. That's what THE POLICE do! Not whining and pointing fingers at ourselves and our supervisors. If we don't, this nonsense just may find it's way into YOUR neighborhood. Then, what savages will you blame?
