Aldercreature Reads SCC

From the comment section:
  • James Cappleman said...I was at the scene of the fire at 11:50am because I heard the sirens a half block from my home. I asked a police officer if anyone was hurt, and was told no. A resident at the scene confirmed this. I did a quick text because I had to quickly leave for an event where I was serving as a volunteer. From there, I left town for a Thanksgiving dinner with family..... with no contact with the press to learn later that a police officer had to go to the hospital.

Any police officer who has interacted with me has come away knowing that I have the utmost respect for them and their line of work.
It appears to be a legit profile and may actually be the aldercreature we lambasted the other day for praising firefighters for doing their jobs while a police officer who went to the hospital went unrecognized.  In light of the aldercreature's comment, we will withdraw the slur we wrote in disgust.

However, we will note that he still hasn't wished the injured officer any sort of "get well" message despite the officer being injured while serving Cappleman's constituency.  Respect is nice.  A "thank you" would be nicer.  And advocate for Rahm to stop screwing with First Responders would be nicest of all, but we won't hold our breath on that count.

I've worked in uptown for a few years now and have had many encounters with the alderman. He is a nice man and is pro police. He's always looking for ways to clean up the neighborhood. Have never heard the guy say one bad thing about the police. Just cause he lives up there in uptown doesn't mean he's a police hating liberal like I'm sure many on here think. There is no comparison between him and the former alderwoman Schiller. She was out to get us, he is out to help us.

I sat down and spoke with Cappleman for quite a while. After 32 years on the job, I have to say, he seems to be the most genuine, and least political of any alderman I've met. And I've met a lot of aldermen. No arrogance. Can't say the same about Suarez, or any of the others, really. He is a social worker, but not a bleeding heart liberal. He has lived in Uptown for many years, and he knows why there is trouble in his ward. But something must be up around Wilson/Broadway, 'cuz Rahm has announced a 200 million dollar rehab of the Wilson L station. No way they would be spending that kind of money on one L station without big plans for the area.

So, SCC is decent enough to apologize when an apology is warranted.
And, while the alderman's comment is appreciated, it was not an apology, though one was warranted.

I met Cappleman at 019th district during a police appreciation event . He seems like a nice guy and pro police. He is a huge improvement over the police hating alderman shiller that they used to have over there.

Any alderman who stands up against this Mayor who demands more police officers (like the ones they hire, NOT the ones he redistributes from unit to unit like a fraudulent magic man) has my support. We need real cadets and in real numbers. We are way down well over a thousand and until a thousand are hired and in that academy, I will not let my persistence let up on these aldermen. Remember these same idiots thought that closing all these districts and divisions was a smart thing to do. IDIOTS. So MR. CAPPELEMAN, put your mouth where your tweets are and stand up against this Mayor without believing his BS that we don't need any more cops. We do! Walk around your district in Uptown and talk to the residents, and then tell me if they feel like we need ---less or more---- police? Try it, you know what you'll hear and what you must do. Crime in the city, south, north, and west is out of control. Wake up people! Cops are the last defense, if we don't support them, there is no other defense. The Mayor wants people to drink his Kool Aid and be dumb and serve as his puppet. Think independently and use common sense without the smoke and mirrors regarding that we don't need new hired cops. 1,000 or more! How many retired or resigned? And how many were hired in the last 3 years. These 2 questions answer everything!!!! Not science here people, more cops, less crime and more people move in and less move out. K.I.S.S. KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID

Come on SCC, give the guy a break. He clearly meant no disrespect and if that's him, was nice enough to take time out to respond to the post. How many other aldercreatures would do that? It's your blog, but I say let it rest.

Tiny Dancer has talked about an "entertainment district" up North that would be comprised of a rehabbed Uptown Theater, Aragon Ballroom and Riviera Theater, all within a block of each other, and a few blocks north of the Wilson el. Truman College is within steps of that station, as well. The Lawrence Ave. station is also being rehabbed.

He is soft, he likes the police but he is more concerned with Uptown citizens feeding the pigeons than he is with real crime. He has signed complaints on pigeon feeders a half dozen times in the past year. He is nice enough but clueless.

Cappleman is a goof - a wide eyed academic that remains clueless.
And while he's tossing around his get well wishes, he can wish a speedy recovery to the Lawrence House resident who was transported for medical treatment.
For he's as complicit as anyone else when it comes to judging the conditions of the LH, Chateau, Wilson Mens Club, et al.......

I don't think a "get well soon" or a "thank you" is needed. He came on here to explain his side of the story. I think that's enough. Next thing, you're gonna be mad because he didn't bring the copper flowers in the hospital. I mean, come on.

OK, so it wasn't the whole tamale of an apology, etc. But, he was willing to go "out there" and try to clear the record on an "insignificant blog". Gotta give him some credit for having at least his eyes open. Most everybody else just ignores such an "insignificant blog" and what people have to say. Give him a break, at least we know he's alive and thinking.

Cappleman is one among a small handful of alderman who are pro police, or at least not complete jackasses when it comes to us, our jobs and our well being. Quinn, Pope and Belcer are cop friendly and Fioretti and Arena have potential. Zalewski plays the political game, couldn't care less about anything but his money, his position and his kid (who he plans to hand his 23rd Ward empire to soon). He plays the game but would turn on us in a hot minute--same with O'Shea. Very few would ever stand up for us or our best interest, except for these extreme few.

adjusted for equal population, sans any consideration of race, ethnicity, gender proclivity and political preference, this could turn this town into a truly functional example of representative democracy.

once the debris from the riots is carted to the landfills.

I have said it before and will say it now. Cappleman is the best alderman I have encountered in my nearly 15 years. I have worked in 3 different districts and dealt with many alderman and he is worlds above the others. He is pro police and anti-shithead. He is very approachable and is always walking around uptown. The good people of uptown love him and are very happy the scumbad Shiller is gone.

Of course aldercreatures read SCC!

The Police are the enemy... Gotta keep tabs. Right?

*Hushed voices in an inner office at City Hall*

"Where are the Police? What are they up to now?"

Too many people too heavily vested in busting out CPD...

Prediction?

Alderfools getting first dibs on the soon coming privatization of Law Enforcement/Public Safety in Chicago...

This is Ground Zero for the planned destruction of Policing as this nation has known it for 200 years.

Notice the heavy investure into these "Policing Experts" from NYC... Bunch of know-it-all charlatans.

We await the total national exposure of Gump-Stat for what it is. High order law enforcement mookery ginned-up by some NYPD swifties as a federal funding sink.

We hear the FEDS were doing some poking around in NYC & Newark and asking some rather ticklish questions... Cigarettes, blindfolds and a wall of sandbags?

Notice copious media spin placing the blame for muni budget meltdowns nation wide on the shoulders of the men & women in blue... Though curiously, they have no direct say (by design) into how those muni budgets were managed or should we say, very badly mismanaged?

"You Cops are too old, too expensive and have too many rights and protections..."

Uhh... it's an ugly, ghastly, brutal job that guarantees years off your life and diminished quality thereof.

You didn't see people running to take the job or shit-talking about the nigh near holy, untouchability of our benefits until times of overall economic uncertainty.

Everyone wants everybody else boiled in the same shit-pot. It's a troubling aspect of human nature to begrudge another man HIS crumb because someone snatched yours.

No nodding understanding about doing a job most people run away from during good economic times...

"Who the fuck do you guys think you are having decent benefits and a secure pension and shit while our companies went under and took our million dollar 401K's with them?"

The Police are everyone's enemy because they had the fucking nerve to stand in the "right line?"

People are pretty free and easy with that kind of crazy thinking.

Policing was always a tough go in this town, but...

No worries. Cocked-Hat Security & Public Safety Customer Service Aides of Chicago are on the way.

$12 an hour... Obama Care. Constant churn to keep them away from that raise to $15 an hour. Those who play the game and get the raise are dubbed "Management" and WILL turn on the new hires.

The bean-counter fantasy for public safety gains traction.

We can see Rahm hiring 25K to 50k of these people and siccing them on the "tax paying" areas of the city.

They'll also respond to the push-button alarms at the light blue kiosks with bullet-proof screens that run Rahm & Co. propaganda in Chinese, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, Urdu and Pashto...

Oh yeah... English too.

"I need the POLICE!"

*Bzzzt! Whirrrrr! >Fast Forwarding< Hummmmmm!*

>Please restate your selection<

Those who CAN leave... ARE leaving...

Listen Up guys, Bernie Stone stood up to Rahm, and after being in city counsel for 40 plus years he is gone.
So, this alderman can only do so much or suffer the fate of Bernie.
Then you get a Helen Schiller look alike back beefing on you.
The last of big city mayor.s who was a total gent to all was the Late/Great Harold. He always had a smile and never hurt anyone. The Daley crime family gave the city away to the cronies.
Maybe Daley and his kid will become dual citizens of China and the USSR, o ! sorry, Russia.
It is a total shame that this city cannot elect a mayor like our former U.S. attorney, a man who would bring total reform.
We are stuck with this mayor like we were with the last one. Reform will come, but not in this century !

I have known James Cappellman for years. I work in 23/19. Before James was an alderman he was involved with CAPS. For years he helped to run police appreciation day. He decided to run for alderman because he wanted to clean up uptown after Ald. Shiller destroyed it by allowing the thugs to move in and run wild. She was not police friendly! Cappleman is police friendly and I believe that had he known that a police officer was hospitalized he would have visited the officer at the hospital. James is in constant contact with the people of Uptown by tweeting and commenting on the Uptown Updated Blog. He is always out walking the streets of Uptown talking to people. He is good for uptown and he supports the Chicago Police.
