Interesting Take on Violence
An interesting article in Business Insider.
- Things are pretty grim in Chicago following its deadliest summer in recent memory.
By Oct. 21, Chicago had recorded 435 murders, ahead of 339 in New York and 241 in Los Angeles. The Windy City has the highest murder rate of all Alpha world cities, according to NBC Chicago.
And while things are finally starting to slow down, the mood in the city definitely isn't great.
As an Illinois ex-pat living in New York and looking on at one of my favorite cities from afar, I have to wonder, how did we get here?
The linked article points to numerous examples of how Rahm and McJerseyShore lost 2012.
And it comes on the heels of this Sun Times headline yesterday:
This on a Saturday, completely discounting Saturday night and all day Sunday upcoming.

This Mayor and Superintendant has no clue about how to deal with the violence in Chicago, no coherent strategies. One reason is they both have no real connection to Chcago and its communities, neighborhoods or environment and the conditions that surround it. Remember their departures are imminent sooner or later, we will be left to deal with it all, while they go on to greener pastures while padding their resumes.

It's sad to see the level of stupidity exhibited on the nightly news. Usually a story about street violence brings out the warning; "Be alert". Followed by 2 or 3 young women affirming "I'm always alert". The finale is a photo of some thug who has spent the last 3-5 in Menard pumping iron and running laps. Yeah, be alert to see where your teeth went so maybe they can put them back in.

F you and the "fine upstanding citizens" of the south and west sides of the city who travel to the tourist/north side of the city to implement their mayhem. Knowing full well that the CPD cannot protect me and mine, I carry when out and about. Come and get it.

One thing has become clear. Chicago's gun policy is simply not working. Banning guns sounds good in theory, but just does not work in the real world, as this article confirms.
Instituting Concealed Carry would allow law abiding citizens to protect themselves, plus the deterrent effect would be enormous. Just think about Texas.
And to anyone who opposes Concealed Carry, here is my response: Let's try it for a couple years. If it does not deliver results, we can always go back to the ban we have now. Fair enough?

URBANA — A Chicago teen who admitted he broke into an Urbana home last spring to steal has been sentenced to eight years in prison.
Champaign County Judge Heidi Ladd agreed to recommend Dwayne Broughton, 19, for the Department of Corrections' boot camp program.
Broughton recently pleaded guilty to the April 11 residential burglary of a home in the 1100 block of Lanore Drive.
Assistant State's Attorney Chris Kanis said an Android tablet and a backpack were stolen.
Broughton was linked to the crime through fingerprints left behind. He admitted his involvement to police when confronted, Kanis said.
In exchange for his guilty plea, two other counts of residential burglary alleging break-ins to two other Urbana homes in April were dismissed.
Kanis said Broughton had no prior convictions.
