Another Plug Pulled

  • A 26-year-old Chicago man who was shot in early November while sitting in his car on the Near Southwest Side has died, officials said.

Michael Morgan, of the 1400 block of West 13th Street, died at 8:37 p.m. Saturday at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Rumor is McCompStat is demanding all "end-of-life" decisions have to be run through his office before plugs are pulled.   The paperowrk delay is said to be at least two weeks and Rahm added a $1 million fee to help balance his budget.

Hold on. So SCC, the head of the police department now tells families when "they can pull the plug" on people to fudge homicide numbers? That a real stretch even on you part.

If only this were true the irony would be beyond hysterical.

I can picture it now: McMalady hooked-up to a colossal Budweiser drip, self-administering "palliative care" to dull the pain of his final days at the helm of the terminally ill CPD.

Poetic justice indeed.

This just has to be the same guy. These are your democrat voters. Too dense to understand anything beyond very simple, basic commands to follow. How very sad and pathetic.

Slow down there, SCC! Is that any way to address one of your superior officers?

What's that? It wasn't a sergeant or lieutenant? Well I guess it didn't really have to be a boss given the stock of mental midgets and common sense-devoid simpletons that have infiltrated the job over the years. But a supervisor was my first guess ;-)

For a job that has seen an influx of what are supposed to be college educated people, we have some of the dumbest folks I've had the displeasure of working with, especially over the last 10 years or so.

Give me the street-smart guys I came on with over the current crop of know-it-all "Hair Gels" ANYDAY.

Terminally ill is the perfect way to describe this job nowadays. And it's a damned shame.

You dummies in 017 and all other districts that are short of manpower have no one to blame but yourself. If your district is so darn short then why is activity always up? Why is there no back log? So you see you and other districts are not short of manpower. The manpower just needs to be allocated properly.

I'm not sure about the 5 year time fame, I've been there since somewhere around 2000 and it's correct for that time frame.

Another nice thing about not replacing anyone for years and then when you finally open the bids, the newest person on the list has a hire date around 1995. People with 10 years on the job are only able to successfully bid to midnights. The young officers in a district like 017 are now 35 to 40 years old. It must really be annoying to get 1st, 2nd and 3rd period furlos year after year.

it's one thing to bid for, or wind up on, midnights, or afternoons, but.....a couple of ideas that have been mentioned:.....
a) instead of everyone receiving duty availability pay, how about those working afternoons receive, maybe a 5% increase, those on midnights, a 10% increase in base pay;
b) when selecting furloughs, how about selecting by watch, instead of by district/unit, to balance the vacations, and give the younger folks a better chance at a "better" furlough (not perfect, but a little better).....no?

Remember who was AVAILABLE and had their hours changed and their days off canceled for NATOfest and every other little 'special event' since you got into office.
