Almost There

  • Shootings across the city late Saturday and early Sunday left at least five people injured, authorities said.

About 2:15 a.m., a male was shot in the head in the 3500 block of West Diversey Avenue, Chicago Police Department News Affairs [...] said.

He was taken from the scene of the shooting in the Northwest Side's Belmont Gardens neighborhood to Norwegian-American Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
  • About 2:15 a.m. Sunday, a man died after being shot in the head in the North Side Logan Square neighborhood in the 3500 block of West Diversey Avenue, said [...], a Chicago Police spokesman.
The Tribune spent the entire day behind the curve:
  • About 5:19 a.m., a male was shot on the 3300 block of West Crystal Street in the West Side’s Humboldt Park neighborhood, police said.

Further information was not immediately available.
But that guy died, too.

The Sun Times reported three dead, pushing the year's total to around 495.

Question for you SCC. We know the City LOVES to manipulate numbers. Do you suppose way back when we were told "homicides" will now be called "murders" was all a move to lower the numbers? Was the city trying to remove "justifiable homicides" from the picture and therefore they are not included in the "murder" total? Just askin.....

OT:

Nothing to see here right??

Under the bill, Chicago aldermen also would receive notices of foreclosure on properties in their wards.

Illinois has had 11 straight months of increases in home foreclosures. We are number three in the nation.

Funny thing is with the state being bankrupt Madigan found $70 million dollars to help home owners he-heh yeah right. And a lot of talk about fast tracking this foreclosure process.

The final line in that story linked above is that aldermen will get a notice of property going into foreclosure in there wards and why is that? Why wouldn't the notice appear in the paper or on line so that everyone has access to the info at the same time. Ya know...something we call TRANSPARENCY! No room for funny business in there now is there?

JUSTIFIABLE homicides are NEVER included in the Part I total according to Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) criteria--only murder and non-negligent manslaughter.

If you are in law enforcement, you certainly are (shall we politely say) "naive".

As your consolation, CPD management will do just about anything to otherwise "cook the books". Since most Part I crimes are overwhelmingly property crimes (burglary, thefts over $300 value and auto theft), rest assured that there is plenty of latitude to "kill" overall Part I crime statistics. They will also downgrade the Part I status of
sexual assaults, robberies and aggravated batteries.

Without an "undetermined" from the medical examiner, the city's magic thinking makes it most difficult to conceal corpses from the criminal homicide count. Remember that the number of murders comprise less than 1% of the Part I index.

Compared to other major cities, Chicago's clearance rate for criminal homicide is abysmally low.
The mayor and top cop will avoid any discussion of this shameful fact.

Does it really make a difference 495 or 500? It's not working. They are waiting for more federal money to come in and then you will see more hiring. They can not keep on hiring and claim they are broke. The city will hire after pension reform and bailout money from Federal government. Chicago is the killing fields! Sad but true.

Think for a moment, are the Dem's apposed to officers in schools because it's just a bad idea or is it because the NRA has suggested it? I say it's the latter. We have had armed officers in schools here in Chicago for as long as I remember. I understand the school unit was disbanded but that's not the point. We had armed officers in schools and nobody had anything to say then. So because it came from the NRA it's a bad idea. The NRA did not commit this crime. I have never seen or heard of an NRA member shooting up the west or south sides. I have heard of the various gangs that go by initials such as GD's CVL's,MLD's LK's and so on that do shoot up those area's. YOU place blame upon the wrong crowd and always have but that isn't your agenda, your true goal is to disarm the American people in general, not to blame the one's who actually commit crimes. After all most of them are your constituents. This is just more politics and from the same people who YOU keep electing. The hypocrisy of the Dem's and libtards is plain to see for those who have clear sight and make up their own minds. There are plenty of officers who are willing to work in the schools, why not let them. Soon you will also have to contend with the law abiding citizen who will be legally carrying a handgun and it's long overdue. I ask you, as an officer myself, What do you have to fear from a law abiding citizen with a CCW permit? Nothing, that's what. I have more fear of a politician who really doesn't know how to handle a firearm and who would choose a .25 caliber as a (supposed) duty gun. Hypocrites all.

CHICAGO POWER GRAB -- EMANUEL PROPOSES STATEWIDE "GUN OFFENDER" REGISTRY AND "EXTRATERRITORIAL JURISDICTION" BY UNDERMANNED CHICAGO POLICE

"The gun offender registry would be similar to the state law that mandates that convicted sex offenders register with local law enforcement authorities."

"...bet on the plan grabbing national attention. Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy played a significant role in developing the registry in New York City when he was a top cop there."

"The plan could enable Chicago Police officers...to be sworn in as special agents of the Illinois State Police — giving them statewide authority to go after gun stores and other sources of weapons plaguing inner-city neighborhoods."

http://www.suntimes.com/news/sneed/17164631-452/going-after-guns.html

"...scene of the shooting in the Northwest Side's Belmont Gardens neighborhood..."

This automatic computer geo-tagging of addresses with "neighborhood names" is immensely annoying -- you can have been born in Chicago, and still never heard these names to this day.

Most media twentysomethings don't know the "Northwest Side" from applesauce.

Some trendy must have moved out to Tinley Park (to escape conditions trendies help to create) -- I've never heard so many "Tinley Park" news stories in my life as I have in the past few months.

Go ahead -- "Discover" it. Talk it to the sky until it fills with people just like you, until the taxes double and redouble for all the services you demand, and you can't stand it anymore. Over and over again.

I have to post this before I forget it.

In the late 70's I lived in Ukrainian Village in 013.

Unfortunately I had Jack Farmer (who later was Public Enemy #1 on the FBI 10 most wanted list) as a neighbor who tried to burn my house down with me in it.

2 Bomb and Arson detectives came by and spoke to me. I told them what had happened and about the drug operation he was running.

These guys were unbelievable. Both well over 6' and weighing in at 250-300+ lbs. Fists as big as hams you see at the grocery. You could NEVER get by one of them in a gangway. They extruded the feeling of invincibility.

They walked up to his front door (no vests - no backups) like supermen, had a "little talk with him" and within 2 months he sold his house and was gone.

Call box keys, had 1 when I came on in 82 but never saw a call box... the black leather gas card holder tthat was attached to every car key set.. the big black radio holder ...it was issued with your radio.. no bullet proof vest so your leather fit really good.... great bosses that would be back you up... going around the clock. watch parties.. drinking in the parking lot on summer nights after 4 to 12's...... I used to really love this job.. now I can't wait to leave it.

OT: Sitting & looking out my window at 7:52 pm - 4 gangbanging jagoffs walking up & down Armitage at California banging on people's windows & threatening them. even picked up a motorcycle & slammed it into the ground repeatedly...

Called 911 3 times - both times after they went eat then came back to terrorize others.

Not only are these pathetic morons out destroying some schmuck's hard earned stuff, CPD took their time arriving, and just did a cruise by...

Merry Christmas. Chicago.

so, the absence of a police presence didn't spark a single original thought to blossom within your unimaginative little mind?

you're what makes my work so challenging.

THIS is`what we've been talking about for years. CPD didn't 'take their time arriving'; CPD doesn't have enough manpower to respond quickly to 'disturbance' calls.
Don't post here and bitch. CALL the alderman's office. CALL the mayor's office. CALL McGigolo's office. Ask why we don't have enough police to respond to this type of call.

WEBSTER, NY

William Spengler, 62, convicted and imprisoned for bludgeoning his 92-year-old grandmother to death with a hammer and since released shot four volunteer firefighters responding to a house fire before dawn this morning outside Rochester, NY on the shores of Lake Ontario. Two of the four firefighters are dead. Spengler then committed suicide (GSW) at the scene. Two of the four volunteer firefighters were also full-time police officers

And PotatoHead Quinn closes Tamms and the execution chamber...

Bring back "Ol' Sparky".
EXECUTE THESE MUTHAFUCKAS!

12/24/2012 02:51:00 PM

Uh, he committed suicide, as most of them do. So, you want to put him in the electric chair, too?

Sir.

I belive I know what the problem is.

You do not even work for the city and you CHOOSE to live at Armitage and California (AKA: S-H-I-T)

Therefore, you are a MORON.

Merry Christmas to you as I spend time with my family in McHenry County.

That would be a good idea, tough guy. But I think he was talking about frying him for the first offense of killing his grandmother. Don't you feel stupid now that you were trying to belittle someone by being a smart ass only to find out how stupid and reading challenged you really are?

Now go outside and play nice in the traffic. Decent people are talking here. I bet you vote DemocRAT.

Had William Spengler been executed after being convicted of bludgeoning his 92-year-old grandmother to death with a hammer, yesterday morning's bloody ambush of responding firefighters in Webster, NY would not have occurred.

Be they psychopaths or damn psychotic, what's next for these homicidal suicidal pieces of shit? 6-year-old first graders and responding firefighters have been checked off. Perhaps priests and nuns...

No 12.56am.......if the State of New York had him executed at Sing-Sing after he killed his Grandmother (what kind of animal kills his Grandma?) in 1981, he wouldn't have been out of jail in 1998 and ambushing public safety workers in 2012.

Learn how to interpret after you read, idiot. I'd love to read your reports

If they are GOA, what do you expect us to do? Without a complainant on scene, what do you expect us to do? Without us as eyewitnesses, what do you expect us to do?

If we do find them on scene and they're not doing anything at the moment, what do you want us to do? Tell them to get the fuck out of the neighborhood only to find ourselves videotaped by them and on the news?

This is the kinder, gentler police you asked for. Now live with it, or come out of your house and sign complaints.

Willing to bet the original poster is saying that he should have been executed for the original homicide----then he couldn't have ambushed the first responders. Hoping that you're not on the job.

To all of us with 30yoj or more and retired or retiring soon.
I retired this year and after seeing and doing it all, I can truly say it hit me bad and I really miss the CPD even with all it's faults now.
Sad is the word that I left a bunch of great people I meet and worked with through the years.
I wish I could see the one' that passed on just one more time.
I wish I could go investigate one more incident.
I wish I had to work one more holiday and feel bad not being with the family.
The CPD will forever be held close to my heart.
Merry Xmas to all the great members of the greatest police department in the world.
May God keep you all safe and just enjoy the ride. The years will fly by and before you know it ! It is time to retire.

It seems from the comments that you're the only one who had a question after reading. Now, stay with me here Sparky. Does that make you smarter, or dumber than most people who know how to understand what they read and interpret things? No, no. Don't rush it. Take a minute and think about it. There you go, Sparky! You're a dumb ass! See what we can do when we take the time to think? You keep at it, Sparky. You'll get there eventually. In the mean time, go fetch your shine box.

It will take time to adjust. Hold your memories dear but try to move on. And if you need to talk to someone, there is no shame in doing that. Find a good therapist to work through the (temporary) bumpy road.

Enjoy the new road you're on.
