Darn those statistics anyway!
- Well from the CPDs own 2011 Murder analysis report we have some data...
433 Total murders in Chicago
361 were shooting victims 83% - Page 22.
Then it gets confusing for the mayor (and cops since the numbers change a little on page 23, but are close, they state 361 shooting murders, then on page 23 say its 362).
Breakdown:
351 were shot with a pistol.
1 was shot with a rifle.
5 with a shotgun.
and 5 "unknown".
Assuming ALL of the unknowns are rifle shot. We can't say these are even "assault rifles" but lets assume even though statistically all unknowns being rifles and all being assault rifles is a reach.
That's 6. SIX total, as compared to 351 with all the assumptions in the mayor's favor. More than likely none of them were rifle shot (seeing how known incidents show a 1:351 ratio of rifles to pistols).
So basically an assault weapons ban does nothing, even if you could magically collect them all right?
1 out of 362 is 0.27% of the murders...
6 out of 362 is 1.6% assuming all of the numbers fall the Mayor's way.

Well, if we're going to ban "assault weapons", we're going to also have to ban baseball bats, fists, pocket knives and knives in general.
Since according to the homicide report, they're all responsible for equal or more deaths than "assault weapons".
Who cares abour facts, though.

Those rifles scare politicians because they know that it gives people the ability to rid themselves of tyrants. That's what the Second Amendment is about, but they want you to believe it's about hunting or self defense.
Ever wonder why an anti gun city arms it's aldermen? Why they ALL have guns but don't want you to have them? Why don't they give theirs up first to set an example? Yeah, that's what we all thought.

Makes sense to me. Not necessarily because there will be more guns though.
With less people being able to afford to drive or drive on vacations and such because of economic conditions the number of traffic deaths should fall.
Additionally because less people are driving they come into contact with the criminal element outside of their protected four wheel cages. So no surprise more Apple picking, robberies, homicides as the clueless become the victims of the impoverished.
Certainly not a reason to call for gun bans.
Speaking of bans, how'z that drug ban going? Heroin is still here. Cocaine is still here. Weed is still here.
It's all banned and it all comes across the border and there's no will what-so-ever to shut down the source of the problem.
No War on Drugs anymore?

The statistics are similar throughout the country. Banning so called assault weapons will have little or no difference in actual crime....

as said, gun ban? like the ban on drugs, while it comes into the country by the ton?

gun ban? do any of these political dummies think, for one minute, that Americans would voluntarily surrender their weapons "to the state"?...they can't be that crazy, or irrational.....can they?
Actually, since deployment, haven't more people been killed with assault rifles BY the police than police shot by criminals with assault weapons? Just saying. Does anyone have the count of bad guys going to their just reward via CPD M4 style carbine?
So under this rationale should we ban hand guns again?

Illinois gun manufacturers could be affected by weapons ban

SPRINGFIELD – Gov. Pat Quinn’s push to ban semiautomatic weapons is again raising questions about the loss of manufacturing jobs in western Illinois.
A handful of gun manufacturers clustered near the Quad-Cities have threatened to leave the state when previous attempts to ban so-called assault weapons were floated by the governor, his predecessor or individual lawmakers.
Since 2008, however, only one of five companies has left the state. Les Baer Customs, which had about two dozen employs, crossed the Mississippi from its Hillsdale location and settled in LeClaire, Iowa.
Mark Westrom, owner of Geneseo-based ArmaLite, said the manufacturers are still developing a strategy to deal with the latest calls for a ban on the state and national level.
“We’re considering our actions,” Westrom told the Lee Enterprises Springfield Bureau..

The numbers are wrong. I know of at least 5 murders where an AK was used in that time frame. The same AK was used in two of those murders.
The computer data is wrong, probably because it was never inputted correctly.
Are vehiclular homicides counted or included in the analysis report?
Gov. Quinn wanted to ban assault weapons in Illinois even though there were only 4 rifle murders in all of Illinois for 2010 and 2011 combined. Now this was before the Newtown shooting. Looney Lanza would have slaughtered those kids with the handguns he had with him. The democrats should be honest, they want all guns banned and think banning semi-automatic rifles is the first step.

Oh? can you point to those cases?
These stats are specific from the CPD murder report.
And when you say from an "AK" I am assuming you recovered the weapon? vs being able to say the caliber of the round.
In either case, you can also look at the FBI national stats, the %'s are about the same, so go pound sand.

I do believe that Cook County has had an assault weapons ban on the books for a few years now. They actually list the models that are illegal according to county law.
Can we the people actually get our mitts on this report?
