The Same Pena? (UPDATE - $25G's)
Saw a comment alleging this. Googled it. Came up with this Tribune article from 1992:
- A security guard at a Near West Side school disciplined four 7th-grade girls caught in the hallways after lunch by forcing them to eat cakes of caustic soap, a federal lawsuit charges.
The students at the Talcott School, 1840 W. Ohio St., were found wandering the halls on Oct. 10 by the guard, an off-duty Chicago police officer, according to the lawsuit filed Tuesday.
The officer brought them to a vice principal`s office where she offered to punish the students herself, said Denise Devitt, the attorney who filed the suit on behalf of three of the girls and their mothers seeking unspecified damages.
When the vice principal approved this, Devitt said, the officer, whom Devitt identified as Maria Pena of the Wood District, led the girls to a bathroom. Once there, a second security guard, identified as Marcy Mercado, allegedly barred the door, according to the suit.
Then, Pena, who was wearing her police uniform, allegedly forced the 11-and 12-year-olds to begin eating bars of heavy-duty janitorial soap, causing one of them to vomit, Devitt said.
``I don`t know what would warrant that type of physical abuse,`` said Devitt, who added that none of the girls received medical attention at school after the incident, but that two of them, brought by parents, were at the emergency room of a local hospital until late that night.
Anyone want to give the readers some background on this? Seems like battery charges ought to have been filed at the very least. If it's the same Pena, certainly shouldn't be running a District by any stretch of the imagination.
UPDATE: The lawsuit was settled for $25,000 according to a link in the comment section. That tells us quite a bit about the merits of the lawsuit.

Yes this is the same Maria Pena, 100% without a doubt. No question. Its a shame she was never exposed much at the time it happened. I have personally witnessed her bad mouth other officers ,including supervisors that worked both above and below her. when i say bad mouth i mean fucking with their job or position because she didnt like them. An incompetent, vindictive, merit hack!!

TOPEKA, Kansas -- Two police officers were fatally wounded after a shooting at a Dillon's Grocery Store and the suspect remains on the run.
The two officers arrived in two separate police cars and were responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle. A third officer on the scene was uninjured.
It happened at the store at Huntoon and Washburn shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday.
Police exchanged gunfire with a suspect fleeing the scene in a silver 1999 Toyota Camry.
That suspect has been identified as David Tiscareno, a 22-year-old Wichita man. He is still at large and is believed to be armed and extremely dangerous.
Anyone with any information about Tiscareno's whereabouts is urged to call police.

I have a short time left on this job. When the current Superintendent got up in front of entire Command Staff and said that, I was justr amazed.
Why on Earth would you flat out lie to a bunch of veteran officers? It just make you look silly. Later I realized it was comparable to the husband telling the battered wife some ridiculous lie. "It will never happen you again". "It was your fault". Yoiu get the picture.

Wanna see stupidity defined? In my district on 1st watch we have a p.o. who is very proactive. She likes to stop a lot of people and make a lot of arrests. Her partner was on call back and will be back in January 2013. So even though she saw first hand how her partner got screwed just because of an allegation she continued to do "aggressive police work" and now with her partner back she said "oh yeah we are going to tear up the west side and be number one in arrests for the watch".
If this isn't stupidity defined then I don't know what it is.
So Rahm is having CPS practice their disaster procedures.
Ya know...is that like in CT where you crawl inside a closet or into a corner, lye in a fetal position while hoping/praying the "good-guys" arrive in time. Maybe have a 90 pound 5-2' teacher drag a 100 pound file cabinet in front of a door so the bad guys can't get in.
Then we're going to come out and tell them that they are safe as can be expected! Yep.

Tough times in Las Vegas.
It is with great sadness to announce that the CPAON association will be forced to cease operation by the end of the year. The association was founded in 1994. Through out the past 18 years the association has sponsored many reunions and charitable events. The last few years the club has experienced a drop in membership due to many reasons. The present board has attempted to keep the club going, but with the lack of assistance from the membership this very difficult decision was made. The assets of the club will be liquidated and divided among the existing members. We would like to thank all the members and sponsors who have supported the club throughout its existence.
I 've never met this Maria Pena but I'm curious why someones bad decision from 20 years ago is being examined now. Doesn't this department have enough black eyes without the help of articles like this? Especially in light of an unfulfilled contract?

Heard McBubbles speak not long ago. He said there is no code of silence, that the only code of silence in the Abbatte case began and ended w/the two responding patrol officers. Would someone in command enlighten the RUSSIAN fRUNT that he is clueless and just plain ignorant. He's unbearable and is going to really get people hurt. Had a family member that worked with him in 014 that said he was a idiot then and was run out by everyone. We can only hope.

That's exactly what she did in 10.
McNumbnuts controls her and has been impressed at what the 10th district cops do and said so at Compost meetings.
She came into a good district where cops worked because they were protecting each other because they had years of mostly good D.C.s, W.C.s and street bosses. She brought in Captain C.W. who had her own history to do the dirty work. The two of them got rid of any good bosses who took care of the troops and made everyone fight over the scraps of time off to impress McNumbnuts. In a short period of time they took a great place to work and made it hell.
Pena and C.W. have no loyalty to the good cops of the 10th District and have not taken care of them. And when you screw with good people it will always come back and bite you.
quinn gave 55 million so inner city youth can take tripp and do yoga..but no money for pension..
Just because the city settled the lawsuit doesn't mean anything. As someone who's been through this before, I can tell you this: People are paid to go away. That doesn't mean the officer is always guilty of what they were accused of.

Her partner was on call back and will be back in January 2013. So even though she saw first hand how her partner got screwed just because of an allegation she continued to do "aggressive police work" and now with her partner back she said "oh yeah we are going to tear up the west side and be number one in arrests for the watch".
If this isn't stupidity defined then I don't know what it is.

If it costs legal fees of 25,000 why not settle for 10,000 and finally the most important part is with these crazy juries the potential of losing 10 times as much than the settlement As an after thought, some innocent people go to jail and some innocent people lose civil cases
