Your Fund is Making Money?

You would think that Rahm would be happy if Pension Fund investments were actually making money, especially in light of their poor performance in past years.  You'd be mistaken:
  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel said Monday he will ask the city pension funds to divest from any gun-related holdings, speaking at a Center for American Progress panel on proposals to curb gun violence.

Emanuel also said that any gun measures in Congress should start in the Democratic-controlled Senate and be focused on criminal access in order to increase leverage in the GOP-run House.

"I've ordered all the Chicago pension funds to check any of their investments, and we're going to -- if they have it, we're going to divest of any investments they have in any gun manufacturer," Emanuel said. He added that he wanted to "lead a charge also among mayors" towards divestment.
Because we all know that Rahm is going to make up the pension shortfalls out of his own pocket.

And this just makes the rumor we heard about a certain mayor investing heavily in gun maker stocks shortly after Sandy Hook that much more believable.

How about I take suggestions on what gets invested, when my contributions are matched year after year. Since we make our required contribution, we should get the say on where the money goes. What a bunch of bs. Would he rather us invest in Phillip Morris, BP, or Haliburton? I'm clearly not investing in this dump of a city and it's municipal bonds.

What else is on the mayors ban list? Sugary soft drinks? He hates those right? Will they be next?

Just take all the pension money and put it into companies that the mayor has his personal money invested in to drive his stocks up. That's what I would do. /sarcasm

Now that Chicago is on a new bent for socially responsible investing, why stop with just assault weapons?

What about sugary drinks, alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, defense stocks (Chicago is a Nuclear-weapon free zone) or gambling?

Let's buy gun stocks for our personal portfolios and tell OUR pension and mutual funds to do the same.

When everyone else is selling, BUY.

Why hasn't the mayor demanded the pension managers divest from tobacco conglomerates too!

Tobacco is not good for our citizens.

We have more taxpayers dieing in car accidents than we do homicides don't we? Take that pension money out of the evil auto manufacturers.

That money would be much better off invested in Red light camera companies and parking meter companies don't ya think?

If it saves just one child...ha.

BUSTED:

Chicago Marijuana Tickets: City Nets $98,000 In Fines During New Law's First 5 Months reports the Huffington Post.

"[...]..According to RedEye, 380 citations, which come with a fine ranging from $250 to $500, for marijuana possession up to 15 grams were issued between Aug. 4 and Dec. 25. August was the month during which the most tickets were issued."

Hardly worth the effort isn't it?

Five months of ticket writing and you barely generated enough money to pay the wages AND benefits for one cop.

$97,000 dollars is a huge discrepancy from the projected $7 million dollars that we were all told would be gained.

"[...]..Officers also still have the option to make a marijuana arrest under 15 grams elsewhere if they see fit and it would appear that many are still choosing to do exactly that. Under a similar ordinance previously proposed by Alderman Danny Solis in November 2011, Solis said the city would stand to gain as much as $7 million in additional annual revenue from marijuana citations capped at the possession of 10 grams.

Though the marijuana ticketing law ultimately approved last summer actually increased the maximum amount of cannabis that one could be ticketed, rather than arrested for, from 10 to 15 grams, the city is still lagging far behind Solis' estimated revenue boost.

Once the 2012 citation figures are extrapolated, the city is only on track to take in about 3 percent of Solis' $7 million figure in the law's first year.

A portion of the revenue from marijuana citations was slated to be reinvested in drug education and substance abuse programs, according to a June 2012 press release from Emanuel's office."

read the entire piece here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/11/chicago-marijuana-tickets_n_2456788.html

What's two percent of $7 million? $210,000 dollars. And only "a portion " of that money is going to go into substance abuse programs. I wonder how much a portion was according to the mayor?

Ha, not going to be much of a program even if you put 100% of that money into it, is it? Liars.

I wish our pension fund did own plenty of gun manuacturers, they're some of the best stocks with pretty good return on investment.

So will the city make up the return if the replacement stocks dont measure up as well?

That's funny, because Mayor Cocksucker doesn't have the authority to dictate a fucking thing to any pension fund as to where they will invest their money.

THAT'S WHY WE FUCKING HAVE HALF THE BOARD ELECTED BY US!!!

Hear that Lappe? You vote to allow this cocksucker to dictate the failure of our pension investments based on his fucking personal whim and the entire police department will turn against you as an elected member of that board. Both you AND that retired member WE put on that board.

You wanna be outed in the media Mike? Go ahead and do the bidding of the cocksucker at large and see your name in print, with the entire membership of a police department you claimed as your own riding against you.

Idiotic but not surprising knowing the knucklehead mentality of Chi politicians. Only two firearm manufactures are publicly traded, Ruger and Smith & Westin. You want stop the violence then get these shooters locked up for 20 years and stop the liberal turn key prison system. As for the psychopaths nothing will stop them short of insttutionalizing them which Chi will never do. So the citizens of Chicago need to arm themselves and protect their families.
You think Rahm has ever fired a weapon? Perhaps a water gun but that's about it. What a mess of a once great city.

This woman's family was on te phone all night trying to get SOMEONE to understand that this girl was mentally ill and to please hold her till she could be met by family. She got pushed to the area then let out into the wolves den. Then she was gang raped and thrown from a 7th floor window. In my 26 years it was as bad a set of decisions as could possibly be made. Anyone involved in this from the airport to the area should be ashamed. And if some right thinking copper stood up for her in court or depositions, they should be congratulated, not vilified.

N.Y. Comptroller Orders Freeze of Investments in Firearm Makers
4:33p ET January 15, 2013 (Dow Jones) N.Y. Comptroller Orders Freeze of Investments in Firearm Makers

By Debbie Cai

New York state's public pension fund will freeze its investments in publicly traded, commercial firearm manufacturers following the killing of children at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., in December.
"After the terrible events in Newtown, it is clear that the national movement toward greater regulation of firearms manufacturers will impose significant reputational, regulatory and statutory hurdles that may affect shareholder value," said New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, who oversees the New York State Common Retirement Fund.
He added that the fund will monitor the economic and regulatory environment before taking any other steps."
---
The EXCUSE is concern over a drop in stock value. Odd, but gun stocks are up markedly over the last few months and only suffered a temporary drop in anticipation of the President's press conference.
I'm buying both Ruger and S&W tomorrow. Oh, and Cabela's.

The major publicly traded firearms companies are taking off right now.
Smith & Wesson is up 3.0 percent.
Sturm Ruger is up 2.6 percent.
President Obama and VP Joe Biden are currently discussing gun control in a press conference right now.
It's widely documented that firearms sales surge when discussions of gun control heat up.

Your brother and all his friends in Homowood can make movies glorifying violence to all the impressionable youth of this country, that only perpetuates the violence while lining their pockets with piles of money at the expense of society. But when pension funds see an opportunity to invest annuitants money (and this is important part, the fuck**g money belongs to the annuitants not you jag*ff)in gun manufacturers to possibly help raise the performance of the fund so the taxpayers don't have to pick up the entire tab for all your past mismanagement, you say we will be pulling our investments from gun manufacturers for all city pension funds. You don't speak for me and my money jag*ff so shut your fuck**g mouth. Go back to work for Fannie or Freddie where you can steal til your hearts content you sawed off pr*ck.
