Gacy Dig in the Offing
- The Cook County sheriff's office is one step closer to searching a Northwest Side apartment building where serial killer John Wayne Gacy may have buried bodies or other evidence, a sheriff's spokesman said today.
The Cook County state's attorney's office gave its approval late Friday to the sheriff's office's request to obtain a search warrant for the apartment building in the 6100 block of West Miami Avenue, where Gacy's mother once lived and Gacy once worked as a maintenance employee, sheriff's spokesman Frank Bilecki said.
"Speculation about this property has been out there for many, many years," Bilecki said. "This whole Gacy case has taken so many different twists and turns, (so) being able to close a chapter of it at this property would be nice."
The site was previously investigated after a retired Chicago police homicide detective tipped authorities to the fact that he had seen Gacy in the yard with a shovel in his hand at 3 a.m. one morning in the 1970s. That dig, in November 1998, turned up a glass marble and a flattened saucepan, but no bodies, according to Tribune accounts of the Chicago police excavation.
The last dig was a pretty half-assed affair according to some observers, with over a dozen charted "anomalies" in the ground going unchecked and ignored.
Don't worry McCarthy - any bodies located probably won't count against 2013 totals.

I feel for the poor folks in that building. Second time around on this. Do it right, see what there is to be found, then end this chapter.
Actually, I have received incontroverible information from reliable sources that during first watch hours, John Wayne Gacy buried some of his victims in Lincoln Park and the lakefront between North and Hollywood Avenues.

Live near that property and I remember prior digging. Hopefully, they get to the bottom of this, no pun intended, esp. for victim families.

It's a shame that warrants will probably never be obtained for the "closets" belonging to many of the Bossholes on this job, both past and present.
Gacy would look like a choir boy compared to some of the Cloutocracy that disgraced CPD over the years.

The Gacy case will remain an embarassment to CPD for a very long time. Every time his name is brought up it resurrects the incompetance that was critical in allowing Gacy to get away. This animal wasn't flying under the radar. He was a known predator.

Ah, I remember that last time we dug there...John Thomas was Commander of A/5 and Fat Boy Phil was Chief of Detectives...what a media show that was, just like the Geraldo Rivera "Opening Capone's Vault" tv special. Lots of hype and suspense and we didnt find shit!
Say what you will, but if you were a parent of a still-missing kid, you'd be grateful anyone gave a shit about him, or you, and was willing to keep looking. You don't really think every Gacy victim is actually accounted for, do you? If you do, please hang up your badge, you obviously didn't deserve it to begin with.
Didn't they get this done at the last dig? And Gacy is dead.
I am all for closure for victims families-but this case is long over......Sometimes you just have to close a case out.
I just hope Julie shut eye doesn't fall asleep in front of the news media over there like she did last time.

Gacy was a hit man for the Chicago outfit/ Democratic Party. There are pictures of Gacy with old man Daley and other politicians at the democratic convention. Gacy buried work related bodies all over the city and suburbs. I can't believe that the current democrat leaders want to start digging old business dealings.

Funny you say that! McCarthy changed our stats about a year ago to count the homicide on the date the ME rules it a homicide. He didn't like going back and changing the numbers from the past and adding it to the previous date of incident, simply because it was too hard to explain the change.
With that in mind, if they do find bodies, the autopsies will obviously happen this year...but he will make up some 'exception' so they don't count. The circus continues.
Sure if Gacy were arrested today Felony Review would deny charges. After all he is not a police officer who looked at a citizen cross-eyed.

Like I said, I feel bad for the disruption there again, TV cameras and questions and everything, but the guy really was a monster. It affected so many -- I know someone who knew a victim. It spread out like that. Use the best equipment, make sure, put it to rest.
