They Like Us!

  • When some Chicagoans think of the police department, disgraced cops like Anthony Abbate or Jon Burge might come to mind.

Or last year’s rising gun violence.

But a University of Illinois at Chicago survey of more than 4,000 people showed a mostly positive public opinion of the men and women in blue.

More than 80 percent of those surveyed said they were somewhat satisfied — or very satisfied — about their recent encounters with officers.
This has got to piss off Rahm to no end. Especially with contract negotiations in the offing.

This tidbit at the end got our attention though:
  • Meanwhile, only 25 percent of the murders in 2012 were solved last year — including about 9 percent solved “exceptionally,” meaning police identified a suspect but closed the case without charges because they couldn’t get a witness to testify, couldn’t get prosecutors to file charges or the suspect is dead.

Union officials say a shortage of detectives — as well as a lack of public cooperation — has contributed to the low clearance rate, the lowest in two decades.

Depending on how the number wizards are playing with those stats, 25% minus the 9% "Exceptionally Cleared - Closed" might mean that only 16% of murders ever get prosecuted?  That's a sad state of affairs.

BIDEN SAYS OBAMA COULD USE EXECUTIVE ORDERS TO RESTRICT GUNS

By John Whitesides and Mark Felsenthal

WASHINGTON | Wed Jan 9, 2013 6:23pm EST

(Reuters) - Vice President Joe Biden said on Wednesday the White House is determined to act quickly to curb gun violence and will explore all avenues - including executive orders that would not require approval by Congress - to try to prevent incidents like last month's massacre at a Connecticut school.

Kicking off a series of meetings on gun violence, Biden said the administration would work with gun-control advocates and gun-rights supporters to build a consensus on restrictions. But he made clear that President Barack Obama is prepared to act on his own if necessary.

"We are not going to get caught up in the notion that unless we can do everything, we're going to do nothing. It's critically important that we act," said Biden, who will meet on Thursday with pro-gun groups including the National Rifle Association, which claims 4 million members and is the gun lobby's most powerful organization.

Biden, whose panel was formed after 20 schoolchildren and six adults were killed on December 14 by a gunman at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, has been ordered by Obama to come up with policy proposals on guns by the end of January.

The vice president said there was a consensus on "three or four or five" steps regarding gun safety, but did not specify what they were.

"There are executive orders, executive action that can be taken. We haven't decided what that is yet," Biden said, adding that Obama is conferring with Attorney General Eric Holder on potential action.

Biden's group is expected to recommend to Congress the reinstatement of an assault weapons ban that expired in 2004.

The Washington Post has reported the group also will ask Congress for broad restrictions that include tracking the sale and movement of weapons via a national database, and stiffer checks on the mental health of prospective gun buyers.

During his daily briefing, White House spokesman Jay Carney declined to discuss any action Obama might take on his own on guns. "Those decisions haven't been made," Carney said...

Odds are 5 to 1 that you will get away with murder in Chicago.

Odds are almost mathematical certainty that local Democratic politicians will get away with graft and corruption--and they'll be reelected.

Is it any wonder why Illinois leads the nation per capita in people moving out of state?

Ok, first off even 16% clearence rate is an exaggeration to say the least. We are lucky if 10% are Cleared Closed with an arrest. Now, of those rare cases where there is an arrest, the conviction rate is appaling.

Murder hands down is the easiest crime to get away with in the City of Chicago. Unfortunately, no one seems to care and it will only get worse.

So if you blast someone in the head you have an 84% chance that you'll get away with it...and they still think that banning weapons will act as a deterrent because it's a law?

We have to wonder out of the 16% that get prosecuted how the plea deals and early release data relates?

Well, when a university professor feels the urge to teach or "indoctrinate" his students during an economics or math class, this is what you get. A mass of sheeple who have been trained to believe that "soft, easy going, faceless people" called police, can combat crime with an olive branch, not a sword. Then they actually encounter a copper and are probably intimidated, oh, not because of your black knit hat, or your lats forcing your arms out like a coat hanger, but because you are an image of the government, which has been taught to these students as being all caring and all powerful and all watching. Strangely, this is the government they want. Meanwhile, in the ghetto, not only are we loosing the battle, but they believe that they control city/state policy, via rioting. what a wacky place this is.

OT Speaking of Abbate. Word from the grapevine is that a couple of weeks ago, our dear friend Anthony was at a local establishment on the N side, around Harlem and Irving, when he started talking smack to another female bartender. Only this time, a member of, oh lets say, the "INLAWS" heard this and beat him with a cue stick and bit his face. Any word on how true this is? Apparently this biker is not too fond of Anthony and doesn't like those who beat on females.

January 8, 2013 (WLS) -- More people are moving out of Illinois than almost any other state in the country, according to a new study by a moving company.

It shows Illinois trails only New Jersey in the number of residents making an exodus in 2012.

The study was conducted by United Van Lines.

They would know and have no reason to sugarcoat it. In fact are showing how well their business is doing.

Now do you believe me?

It's sort of like "epic battle sequences" in movies, for those of us who aren't action fans. Some of us understand that even if it's not to our personal taste, somebody has to grab a sword and deal with those Orcs, or there will not be a happy ending.

And IMHO it's time people, including those professors, started recognizing that laws require enforcement--it's not like making wishes that a genie will simply grant. So we shouldn't ask for laws we're not prepared to support in every way. (Unlike, say, Prohibition, where the law was only meant for everybody else.)

Again, thanks.

Come on now, it really doesn't matter how many detectives or even police we have when it comes to solving murders.

Even when we know EXACTLY who did it, the GREATER majority of these murders happen in areas that have no concern for life. Witnesses don't cooperate or exist, hell even victims don't want shit to do with the police. Here I can write a narrative for the next shooting right now and I bet it will be almost exact.

R/O arrived and found victim sitting on the porch crying like a bitch. R/O inquired as to the victims well being to wit the victim replied, "I was fittina walk to the store and I heard shots and felt pain in my ass!" R/O inquired about offenders, victim replied he saw nothing. Victim's friend who was with him at the time relates he heard shots but saw nothing as well.

Then the notifications take up the next 2 pages.

I served as a homicide detective in this city for 30 + years. It wasn't that long ago that we maintained a 90% cleared and closed rate on a regular basis. I can also tell you that if the department is now saying that only 9% of our cleared homicide cases are exceptionally cleared this is the most tampered with statistic that I have seen in a long time. Any homicide detective with more than a year experience will back me up on this.

The appointment of supervisors in the detective division who have absolutely no experience as a detective has been the cause. You have so many in policy making positions that have never investigated a case as a detective.

The entire top command of the detective division lacks anyone who actually worked as a detective. Some are good administrators, most were supervisors in the division, but few were actually detectives. Let's face it. You have to have some basic experience or knowledge to perform the job properly. Many of the other supervisors have less than a year or two of experience as an actual detective.

This is what happens when you pick the leaders on a meritorious basis and not via real ability.

how do you close a case when no one is sent to prison!

The wheels are falling off the Detective division.

Don't forget the Morgue just stepped on their d!($. The don't even do blood test bad enough they dont even go to murder scenes themselves too much money.

no E.t's being sent out causing victim to contaminate scenes waiting a whole day for prints!

Ask a homicide Dick how many homicides are in his "box". Common answer more than 20 unsolved homicides!

And the new dicks are worried about those summer furloughs they bid on and the log drive to AREA 2 south.

OT--

News just now -- NRA has concluded meeting with ancient, implacable enemy, gun-banner Joe Biden.

They say meeting "was to provide input." That word. Look up "Delphi Technique," a method of steering things to a predetermined conclusion while providing the appearance of citizen participation. The CTA does it here every time they unilaterally decide to cut service.

Same thing in the White House. I noticed a big change in Obama for the second term -- "Sparklefarts" disappeared, and only came back for a minute to josh with us about the "fiscal cliff" and keep the country from exploding on New Year's Eve. Then hard-ass came right back again.

Damn. It's like he knew something was going to occur.

The NRA came out of there saying "We're disappointed that this meeting had so little to do with protecting our children, and so much to do with destroying the Second Amendment."

They say that the White House is hopeless, and they will concentrate on Congress -- which will not help if Obama bypasses Congress by issuing Executive Orders..

www.reuters.com/article/2013/01/09/us-usa-guns-biden-idUSBRE9080UA20130109

...but GO NRA! STAND FIRM! COMPROMISE = DEATH. NO BACKWARD STEP!

Breaking News!!

Desk Sergeants are Back in 011 on the 2nd watch!! Yeah!!

It seems that the Desk Sergeants have made a suprise comeback after being eliminated last year.

It seems that LT JA was too busy to handle his assigned Station Supervisor Duties that he pulled a Sergeant off the street to handle his duties on wednesday and today.

The gossip around the station water cooler was that the LT had much more pertinent stuff(personal) to tend to so he needed a sgt to do what he is suppossed to do.

Must be nice to just tell someone to handle your job because you have other work to do. Must be nice to come in LATE and then leave EARLY.
Time for the DC to get rid of him and have him transferred where he will have very little oversight of personnel. This is a man who has chased 4 sgts away and at least 7 PO's in recent months and , does not believe he has anything to do with it.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Don't worry LT, everyone is keeping tabs of your actions and verbal abuses of your PO's and Sgts.

I call bullshit on your post. The desk people in 11 are some of the hardest working desk crews I have ever come across. I've worked in 6 diff districts in 26 years on, worked special all over the city and I can honestly say 11s people are the most knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Afternoon shift is hands down busiest desk in city prob doing easily 3X the work of the next busiest district. Don't forget they have every district in the area, the A4 dick units, various outside units, all of Homan Sq, UIC, State Police and I believe a couple hospital police agencies they handle prisoners for all coming thru there to make the workload absolutely insane. I cant count the times the desk people work thru their lunch answering phones, writing reports, approving in inventories etc etc. If there is any truth to what you say there is no doubt that YOU came off like an entitled stroke. I'm guessing you don't work there by what you say, but I do bet you came barging in like you work there. If that's the case you need to be put in your place son because there's a way things are done everywhere. When you're in someone else's house you'd best be humble. And if you do work there you sound like every other entitled a**hole that needs everything done and pointed out for him. Are you maybe an elite tact team stud that is above doing your own bonds? Is that the case? Either way, you'd better respect the inside folks, most have paid their dues long ago and know much more than you'd think. Either way I can bet YOU have the chip on your shoulder and NOT the 1/W? 2/W? 3/W? desk people.

From a troll: My only contact with CPD has been a traffic ticket or three over the years. Sometimes I am a little heavy on the long pedal and a little late on the brake. So I never got a ticket I didn't deserve. And I would say the three cops were decent. But I will say I have recently taken to listening to my scanner at work, usually what ever zone 007 and 008 are dispatched from. I cannot believe some of the crap you are sent on. A good one today, someone was actually dispatched to a house in Englewood because the caller said their teenage daughter would not go to school. A woman police acknowleged the call and a bit later came on and said whoever she met at the house wanted a different kind of police. WTF is that? Why would the police even respond to that? It is insane there and I was happy you people were dealing with that and I was doing stupid shit in my cubicle on two monitors, bored out of my ghord. Also is it not ironic that our forefathers created our constitution after our fledgling nation delt with heavy handled British rule and today, we use it to protect us from our own heavy handed, federal and lesser governments in this country?

Not the original poster, but I have to say "yes". You see, this is the problem with our Nation. Our children have grown up with a false sense of their own self worth. Everybody get a trophy. Does that sound familiar?

Add the liberal agenda being pushed at every University to the mix, and we now have an entire Nation asking 'not what they can do for their Country, but what their Country can do for them'. We are in trouble.

Who will be OUR Abe Lincoln? Who will try to heal these wounds and unite us? Certainly won't be the current Divider in Chief.
