Bears Pick Who Now?

  • Phil Emery began his second NFL draft as Chicago Bears general manager Thursday night, and used the No. 20 pick in the first round to select offensive lineman Kyle Long of Oregon.
"He is the type of athlete and player that we have targeted," Emery said of Long. "He's a fast, tough, dynamic athlete."

Long comes with a terrific pedigree as he is the son of Hall of Fame defensive end Howie Long and the younger brother of Rams defensive end Chris Long. He came on during his senior season for the Ducks, playing in 11 games and making four starts. That was the only season he spent at Oregon as an appeal for an extra year from the NCAA was turned down. He played left tackle at Saddleback (Mission Viejo, Cal.) Community College in 2011
Quite a few linemen taken this year in the first round picks. Not many big stars or splashy players.

Hope he's better than Stan Thomas, Chris Williams and Gabe Carimi.

Not a single running back taken in round one.... And I like this pick a lot. I followed Oregon pretty close this season and for a O lineman this kid is a stud. He will help the line

IMO, this kid will be a good player for about ten years. He might make a pro bowl in there if he does not get injured. He is mean, athletic and has good lineage.

However, he was not a good value at the 20th pick. The Bears have many needs. If they truly wanted him they should have traded back and picked up some picks, maybe another 2d, and maybe a 3rd. They could have drafted him in the mid 2d round then.

This for sure means that Angelo was well in over his head, like the CPD Brass, because Carimi is on the way out after 3 years.

Three of the top four first round draft choices are Caucasian offensive tackles averaging 6-7, 306 lbs.

Best name goes to the Cleveland Browns "dog pound": BARKEVIOUS MINGO, LSU DE.

4 whole starts in Div 1 college? Not even good enough to be an opening day starter for Oregon at the begining of the season? Should have taken Tyler Eifert at TE

As usual, it's not what you know or how well you perform, it's who you know. The Chicago way. I.G. open a damn case on the Bears!!!

If you followed Oregon "pretty close" you would know that 24 year old Kyle only started 4 games in his entire career there.

I like this pick. Sure there were a lot of big names still up but we didn't need them, our biggest problem has been our O-line and this was probably the best pick considering the run on O-linemen

Long is a stud and honestly we need an O line more than anything else right now.

look at Walter Paytons son Jarret, and Michael Jordans son (i cant recall his name) they arent a third of the athletes their fathers were.

What a stupid statement!

I guess they were going more by need then the "best player available" strategy. It seems a bit of a stretch to take him in the 1st round, but the draft always has a lot of the unexpected.

So much for all the "experts" and their mock drafts.

Both Geno Smith, who was projected to go somewhere in the top 5, and Manti Teo, another projected first round pick, still on the board to start the 2nd round.

That must be a kick in the nuts for Smith. As I recall, didn't the same thing happen to Brady Quinn, or some other highly touted QB?

Thats maybe cause he was only there one year genius... Started 4 and for a kid who only played 1 year of division 1, thats an achievement...

Sometimes that doesnt matter. Clay Matthews of Green Bay basically played special teams his whole college career and got drafted because of his bloodline as well. I would say its worked out for Green Bay thus far!

Really, it's stupid, huh?

Okay, let me see...

Walter Payton's son, Jarrett...Umm, yeah he played in the NFL. He went to Miami on a football scholarship. I know, you'll say he wasn't shit....But getting to the NFL is easy, right?

Michael Jordan's son, Jeffery or Marcus? You do not even know, but both of those kids made it to D1 college basketball programs. Yeah, you're right, I'm stupid... It's only basketball.

Finally, let's discuss Kyle Long, the son of Howie, NFL Hall of Fame, AND brother of Chris, an NFL player. Yeah, again, you're right because what does lineage really mean.

Not much according to you because these kids were not as good as there fathers, but yet, all of them played major level athletics...Unlike you, the regular keyboard Olympian.

You're not even half as good as your father, and he was not even worth half a damn to begin with.

How do you like me know "Stupid Statement"??

Well if you followed Oregon then you dodn't see much of him. I think it was only 4 games he played in. $ for the Bears before injury is about right.

Was watching Dan Patrick today and he was speculating on teams that wood "make sense" to grab Tebow. The 1st team he named was Chi Bears.
C'mon! We did the Flute thing and in general the QB position has been a straight debacle in my lifetime.
