Cop Quick Hits

Too many stories all at once, so we'll dedicate this post to them all.

Cop injured during a chase:
  • Three people were hurt when the vehicle they were riding in flipped during a police chase that spanned several miles, authorities said.
A police officer also sustained a minor injury during the pursuit, which started about 11:30 p.m., Chicago Police Department News Affairs [...] said.

The chase began in the 7700 block of South Sangamon Street when the vehicle's driver sped off after being stopped for a traffic violation...

Police chased the vehicle from the site of the traffic stop, in the Gresham neighborhood, to the 8600 block of South Kingston Avenue in the South Chicago neighborhood.

The Officer sustained a minor injury to his hand. Three assholes in custody. None in the morgue, so maybe there won't be a lawsuit in 7 years like the one yesterday.

Suburban "suicide-by-cop" failure:
  • Carrying a note in his pocket saying he was terminally ill but couldn't "do the deed" himself, a man walked into the Vernon Hills police station early Wednesday and brandished a realistic-looking fake handgun before an officer shot and wounded him, authorities said.

"I apologize for placing your officers in this position," Howard R. Lazarus, 53, wrote in the note found in his pocket after the shooting in the northern suburb, police said. "I am dying from cancer and couldn't do the deed myself."

Lazarus, of Mundelein, was hit in the abdomen, police said, and he was in fair condition Wednesday evening at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Well done by our suburban friends - you did what had to be done.

And can we let the dead be?
  • A Chicago police officer was found shot to death in his Far South Side home Wednesday morning in an apparent suicide, authorities said.

The officer had been under investigation for allegations of sexual misconduct, according to law enforcement sources. Chicago police were outside his home waiting to talk to him about those allegations shortly before they found him dead, one source said.

Three topics for the price of one:

Police injured in chase--best wishes for a quick recovery and hopefully no problems from the dept. regarding the pursuit.

Suburban police shooting: Suburban desk areas are usually more secure than ours. This could have been tragically worse if that gun was real and he wanted to do harm. Be careful, even at the desk.

ODPO--Don't know him, the circumstances or the history. Not going to comment.

I keep hearing about all of these chases for traffic offenses. Aren't those supposed to be called off?

Risking your life and your partner's life for a traffic offense, not to mention innocent citizens? Same thing goes for racing to calls.

Unless my mother is on fire, I'm not racing anywhere. Let the animals do what they do, then pick up the pieces.

The last thing I want is to tell someone 'trusted' my secrets, only to have them blabbed around to my friends or co-workers. When these are the resurces of last resort at the worst times in your life, it would be a comfort to know your story won't find its way into a social conversation.

I see they made Terry Williams a Commander again. I guess anyone who remembers his soiled past is now gone (most of us anyway). The new regime must not know about the EEOC beef he had or the lawsuit that the female officer filed on him after he accidentally hit her with a slege hammer on a search warrant then ordered her to say she fell. The best (and what got him demoted) is how he allowed his secretary in TRU to use her furlo as individual V Days between her days off when she was only allowed a straight furlough netting her an additional 7 vdays.

You never heard of the victim assistance program? Used to be, there were posters for it all over the courthouses. The legit victims rarely wanted it and had to be convinced to use it for days taken off work to testify, medical bills, etc., and the not so legit were all over it.

Commander Roussell Reassigned; New Acting Commander Named

Posted: 4/4/2013
Back

Dear Neighbor,

I have just been informed that Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy has reassigned 24th District Commander James Roussell to Area Central Patrol, where he will oversee four district commanders.

Superintendent McCarthy has named Captain Terrence Williams as Acting 24th District Police Commander. Captain Williams has been serving in the 15th Police District in Chicago's Austin neighborhood.

I wish Commander Roussell well in his new post, but I will miss him. Our police district has been fortunate to have some very good police commanders. Commander Roussell was one of the best.

I look forward to working with Captain Williams in his new role here in Rogers Park.

Sincerely,

Joe Moore

Now go get your contact cards and you too may be able to make 157000 a year for never passing a test, Hooray for Terry! It's all legit!

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - IMPD Officer Bryan Zotz is expected to be released Thursday from the hospital. He was shot in the lower arm Tuesday night, after a traffic stop that turned violent.

Tuesday night’s shooting of three people and an IMPD officer occurred as officers were working on a specific patrol called “Project 46218,” which targets one of the city’s most dangerous zipcodes.

Officers make aggressive police stops for minor violations, all to get felons and weapons off the streets.

T Dub promoted to Commander...again? You gotta be joking. Wasn't this guy promoted to exempt THREE times and dumped TWICE. The last time there was a CR # because someone sent copies of the time sheets for unit 253 showing that his secretary was being allowed to use vacation days individually between her days off even though she only had enough time to get a straight furlo. She was able to,with his knowledge, take 4 mini furlos and net an extra 7 vdays. Yep. That terry Williams. Good luck 024. That's what they are promoting nowadays and ALL the rest of the exempts know his history and nobody has the balls to say anything the the Supt.

I pray for God's mercy on this poor man. Imagine being so backed into a corner and seeing no other way out.

Perdition to the "healthcare" bunch that would rather have people die than write a God-damned prescription to alleviate anxiety and pain. No good reason for this, none at all.

Thoughts also for the officer; damn. He/she must have thought it was all over for a minute there. I heard that even in extremis the officer made a hurried plea to "drop the weapon," tried to communicate, but to no avail. The circumstances can't make this any easier to deal with.

It's a terrible world sometimes...

Illinois State Trooper James Suater is killed in what Channel 2 described as a "fiery crash" but he got no where near 8 minutes.

When you consider that in a 30-minute newscast there is only about 8-10 minutes of real news, the rest being weather, sports, and "human interest", that's pretty significant.

Here is an exert about the rules of the EAP reggarding confidentiality. It is from the US government website and there are two very important exceptions among the nine.
The first one is when there is a court order, so what good is that , in a criminal or civil case all the court has to do is order the EAP to turn over yur confidential records
The second one is and it was used in the detective case is that your agency, the CPD has a right to them and to use them if they are defending themselves against a lawsuit, which appens all the time. The one involving the detective was that he told EAP that he had been drinking before coming to work

Licensed EAP providers are bound to protect the confidentiality of communications between themselves and their clients. This means that information disclosed in counseling is confidential and protected by law. No information is provided to the employer without the employee’s written permission. However, there are circumstances where the law has determined that confidentiality is not protected and certain circumstances can, or must, be reported to the appropriate authorities. Those circumstances include:
When you consent to disclosure in writing.
When disclosure is allowed by a court order.
When information is disclosed to medical personnel in a medical emergency or when the disclosure is made in a non-identifiable form to qualified personnel for research, audit, or program evaluation.
When information is disclosed to a private firm, individual, or group providing EAP functions contractually. The contractor is required to maintain all confidentiality safeguards and surrender records to the EAP Administrator at the time of contract termination. The EAP Administrator is also bound by law from disclosing any information other than in the circumstances cited in this answer.
Information can be disclosed to the Department of Justice for the purpose of defending your agency and/or its employees in litigation when the litigation relates to your use of the EAP. These disclosures must comply with all other aspects of these regulations and be approved by the EAP Administrator for your agency.
Information can be disclosed to your direct supervisor in order to confirm that you have made or kept EAP appointments during regular duty hours or sick leave (no other information will be given without your written consent).
Information can be disclosed to your direct supervisor, under the Drug Free Workplace Program, if you are tested and receive a verified positive drug test result.
Information can be disclosed if you pose a danger to yourself or others, or threaten to commit a serious crime. This disclosure could involve law enforcement and, in the case of threat of harm to others, the potential victim. No other information about your use of the EAP will be disclosed.
If you provide information that would lead to suspicion of child abuse or neglect (or in some states elder or spouse abuse). In these cases, the EAP is required to report that information under State law to appropriate State or local authorities.

You have been in a government job way too long. you really think that you are owed something for the honor of letting you keep your job. You might be in for a surprise in the near future.

Maybe so, but people like you want city services, but you don't want to pay for them. You think first responders should be grateful for the privilege of eating shit and risking their lives for ungrateful assholes such as yourself. You have a fucking clue the sacrifices we make and
the risk we take, you sir, make me sick.

What sacrifices and risks are you taking by being lazy? Those who do pay for city services want us to be proactive. Tax payers want us to mess with muts. Sir, it is people like you who make this country sick. You must be a mut in the hood. We want want want! Give me freebies! Yet you give nothing. You take up space in a sqaud car and accomplish nothing. You are entitled to the badge but don't tarnish those who have honored it and have truly earned it by sacrificing way too much. People like you are no different from hood muts who sit and do nothing all day.
If you don't like it quit. The whole country is in the toilet with unemplyment and national debt, here you are complaining about retro checks and the contract yet you give nothing. Like the muts in the hood you sir stink. I am glad I have a job and I highly doubt a lazy person like you have anything else to fall back on. I hope you teach your children the same ethic: take take take, be lazy, produce nothing but ask for everything. Amerikuh!

Good point sir, but let's not get kids involved in this. It's not his fault his parents never worked and taught him responsibility. It's not his fault he failed to read the complete job description. Also it is not his fault his children will be the same way. We as a society has taught some people to be lazy because we continue to provide for them. We are all responsible for the products in this diseased society. No need to point fingers here, we can obviously tell who the lazy one is. For you officer lazy... continue to be lazy and unsupportive of your fellow officers. But do us all a favor and please do not insult those who simply do their job. Please be safe and God bless you both. One day we shall have the great american values back in our homes, and have pride in the work we do for our families.
