What's This Nonsense?

Parents want Rahm to "walk with their kids."  We guess they're too busy to do it themselves:
  • “Walk the walk,” parents said Tuesday morning at a demonstration at City Hall, calling on Mayor Rahm Emanuel to try out the often dangerous routes between the schools that Chicago Public Schools officials aim to close and the schools where their children will be sent instead.

Starting Tuesday, groups of parents will walk the routes to point out problems along the way, parents said at an emotional press conference organized by the group Raise Your Hand outside the mayor’s office.

“It’s heartbreaking because we have schools that are being closed,” said Avanette Temple of Delano Elementary School, 3937 W. Wilcox. If the school board approves the closing, Delano’s children will be sent to Melody Elementary School, 412 S. Keeler, more than half a mile away.

“Gangs are going to interact with our children. I don’t want to see no child harmed.

Ummmm...then shouldn't parent(s) interact with their children instead? Walking them to school? Telling them to avoid the gangs (who aren't usually up that early anyway)? Teach them right from wrong and how to avoid bad life choices? And they're bitching about a four block walk?

Or maybe it's just easier to have the mayor walk all the kids to school. It's not like he has a city to ruin or anything. And then blame the police. After all, it's all our fault that the gangs are dictating policy and economic decisions to society at large.

So Avanette doesn't think the gangs at Wilcox and Pulaski are dangerous?

"Democracy turns upon and devours itself. Universal suffrage, in theory the palladium of our liberties, becomes the assurance of our slavery. And that slavery will grow more and more abject and ignoble as the differential birth rate, the deliberate encouragement of mendicancy and the failure of popular education produce a larger and larger mass of prehensile half-wits, and so make the demagogues more and more secure."

Dantrell Davis.

The first grader being walked to school by his mother was shot down while holding her hand. The school was only 500 ft from the projects.

Mayor Jane Bryne gave up after living three weeks in the projects and now instead of the projects the trouble moved to the south, west and far north side. A distributed network of gang bangers.

We can only hope that we don't see history repeat itself because it doesn't seem like much has changed in this city to me when it comes to the gangs.

As far as CPD providing safe passage?

How long will that last? Three weeks until the city gets tired of it or until the downtown alderman squak about a shortage -- like mayor Brynes publicity stunt, right?

Check out the link above to see how the Chicago social experiment has failed and continues to fail, and is getting worse by the day.

Hmm, maybe you should have though about that before you bred children. Maybe gotten a better education or job and held off having kids before you could move to a better area to raise them in.

Come on! You knew about gangs from the get-go. What does that say about YOU that you decided to have kids anyways and raise them in the ghetto?

Whole neighborhood full of people, but "the gangs" are some mysterious thing, someone else, somewhere else, you never quite see them.

Right.

And remember -- "After all, it's [the fault of the police] that [people like the mayor have worked all their lives to create conditions under which] the gangs are dictating policy and economic decisions to society at large..."

Rahm has released a statement to the parents not to worry because his kids are driven by CPD bodygaurds to one of the most prestigious kiddie schools in the country and it is very far away from his house. He is covered, his humble public service has paid off for him quite handsomely and he is covered, but hey, enjoy the fuckin walks he says!

Ms Temple works for a school, and yet uses double negatives? I hope that English instruction is better at the school that will remain open.

Naturally, the mayor doesn't have the stones to inform these "parents" to actually get involved with their kids' well-being.

Instead,he caters to them. Sickening.

Maybe if these children (and parents) 'walk the walk' to their new schools, they'll lose some of that pototo chip/orange pop/candy bar obesity weight that puts Chicago on the national map as having the fattest grade school kids. Michelle Obama surely applauds the 'walk the walk' chant. Why not proclaim 'Let's Move & Walk the Walk' or 'Run to School instead of Walking the Walk.'

From that history channel documentry.

"These people came from the south to make themselves a better life"

Yep and when society failed, when the Fed's housing and public aid rules broke up the families and helped to create this mess it created this generational problem.

And are we not repeating this social plan today?

Gov. Quinn right at this moment is down south of the border encouraging immigrants to come to Chicago for a better life.

WE CAN'T HANDLE AND EMPLOY THE PEOPLE WE'VE ALREADY BROUGHT IN this country You ASS!.

Illinois based Caterpillar, doing mass layoffs, Motorola, doing mass layoffs. Both of those companies joining hands with the mayor on a immigration coalition demanding more immigrants -- saying that it will help their business to grow.

I'm not kidding you! Google it!

When society is unwilling or unable to provide what will turn into... what we are suppose to call "undocumented immigrants" they will turn to the black market and illegal activities to survive.

It's like the politicians actually want it. Maybe they do. Maybe it's a diversion from their failures or maybe they are making money off it in some way ya think?

Drugs is billion dollar business and can Chicago afford to lose the trickle down effect of that money and tourism created by it if it was totally eliminated?

Of course you have to put on a show like your doing something however how long has the drug war been going on now? How long?

When the mayor wants guns off the streets he goes after the money that supports the legal gun manufacturers.

Ask why he's not going after the illicit money from drug dealers that enables the criminals to buy those guns and ammo?

Where do they get the money to buy guns. By selling drugs.

Yet they refuse to lock down the border where the illegal drugs enter and they refuse to legalize the lesser dangerous drugs like marijauna. Doing so might just reduce the prison population that they're whining about.

Ah, but in doing so the police budget may be reduced and the lil' army of officers would have to be cut and the entire political kingdom of clouted jobs would be threatened.

So instead let's not just wait for the crisis. Let's help build the crisis.

Bring in more people that are "only trying to make themselves a better life" and when the society that you built are unwilling or unable to provide the jobs... well deal with it. Ain't it great!

Twenty years ago it was a Chicago first grader getting shot and killed while holding his mothers hand on the way to school, todays version of Sandyhook. Nothing has changed. Taking the guns away and punishing the people working within the laws are not the answer.

Just keeping doing what your doing.

raise your hand is a northside parents group that went citywide. The parents on the northside are just as angry at closings and constant lies from CPS about lack of funds unless you are in Rahms ward school getting tens of millions with nothing for schools outside that area. Why does CPS HQ find hundreds of millions every year to cut from their hq budget? There is NOT a BILLION dollar problem. This is all made up just like the Police, Fire and city worker pension crisis is laid at the feet of the workers and not the people who made money on the deals.

This is another way to heat up the cps and call rahm out on his bullshit! Dont read more into it than that. All the people the chicago politicians bank on for votes and support are slowly turning from allies of the machine to voices that must be heard. What should happen now (if the FOP was smart) would be to get on the coat tails of this story and demand more police hired to ensure safety! Cops and teachers will always be blamed for lack of parenting, but you might as well use this crisis and take a page out of rahms book and use it against him. Like Patton. "Rhommel, you magnificent son of a bitch! I read your book!"

Something must be said for Karma...it's a bitch.
Generations of Chicago's African American families all but neglected their children, allowing them to roam all hours of the day and night, get into trouble and end up in jail.

When White's cried foul, Blacks cried racism and the city mollified them by throwing bushels of money into useless programs.

These same neglected Black kids dropped out of school and received their education on Chicago's streets and became lifelong banger's.

The result is the current generation of chillen's can not walk safely through their own neighborhood to school!
Why...because of the banger's from the previous generation!

And what does the Black community do when the city wants to close half empty schools in communities where more than half the kids will drop out anyway..?
Yep! Cry racism.

I feel for the young children but the parents created their own worst enemy.

Ah yes....Karma!

Don't be ridiculous! If their Momma had to walk her children to school, the next thing you know society would expect the parent to prepare breakfast and lunch for her children too. Eighty percent of the Chicago Public Schools enrollment is tied to children attending school in order to receive free meals.

Just saw TV film, kids in little village in China hike up rocky trail, then use vertical built-on ladders to get up a cliff face to get to school. Maybe fourth-graders. They don't need a jungle gym, they got this twice a day.

Through lovely woods, birds, animals, little waterfall...

OT: Watch Carol Marin's interview with Garry McCarthy tonight (4/3) on Chicago Tonight. A pretty contentious interview, and although Garry McCarthy tries to defend police, he ends up talking circles around himself and coming off like a pompous, uneducated jackass. It's too bad because everyone should admire what the police do--I do, thanks!--instead of wondering where Garry came from.
