Reilly Wants More Cops
- Alderman Brendan Reilly wants help to protect the marquee Chicago neighborhood he serves as a legislator from wild teens.
Reilly, who's 42nd Ward encompasses the Magnificent Mile where hundreds of teens ran roughshod on Saturday night harrassing subway riders and making shoppers and tourists uncomfortable, said in a statement Monday that he wants a meeting with Police Superintendant Garry McCarthy to discuss future precautions.
Made shoppers and tourists "uncomfortable?" What kind of bullshit is that? Oh, he must have read the media reports that said no one was injured or robbed. Of course, the other conflicting reports about two women being beaten with a padlock-in-a-sock and relieved of at least one of their purses give lie to that entire statement, though certain media outlets are still pushing it. And Rahm's people are evidently keen students of the "no victim, no crime" philosophy - if the ladies didn't get treated by an ambulance or a doctor, then they weren't injured.
Oh yeah, and a Mounted Officer was assaulted according to the Community Activist interviewed by all the major networks - that doesn't count?

You know, I've heard a lot of comments back and forth about Reilly's proposal to have businesses pay ODPO's $30 an hour to aid security. Stuff like that's less than you're paid now; no benefits; no pension contribution; possible no radio; lack of back up; no indemnification; etc, etc.
All valid points to be sure, but they blew right past the threshold issue of "should we be doing this in the first place?"
Right now, Mayor Murder and Supt Mc-Licks-Rahms-Balls can come up with a million bucks a week to send VRI into the hood. Ah yes, da hood. An area which contributes nothing postive, does nothing but take-take-take, into an area in which the po-leece are not even wanted, and yet we pour in milliions and ask them for nothing in return for VRI.
But the Chicago's crown jewels called the Mag Mile which makes a massive contribution polictially, socially, and financially (sales tax, property tax, etc, etc) to the city and we can not provide THAT area with adequate police resourses??? Gimme a fucking break.
The alderman is to be recognized for the limited fact that he wanted to find a way to provide this police protection at no cost to an already financially strapped city.
But the alderman should really get behind the idea that Michigan Ave is already making a MASSIVE tax contribution to the city and is deserving of adequate police protection (whavever that might entail) AT NO EXTRA CHARGE.
And the police that provide that protection are entitled to full pay and benefits package for the time spent doing so. They are doing full POLICE WORK and therefore deserve full POLICE PAY AND BENEFITS.
And if the Revruns don't like it, let's just remind them that if the parents and clergy in da hood had done an adequate job of parenting the FIRST PLACE, then we would not be having this discussion.

A private citizen best be indemnified with an insurance policy. Right or wrong is of no matter. The relatives of the deceased and/or injured will be going for the ghetto lottery. If you protect yourself with a gun, you should also protect yourself with insurance. Just saying.

Get every Alderman in the city to assemble five 21+ people from their wards (50x5=250). Educated, clean records clean cut, military preferred and assemble them at City Hall. March them into the Mayors Office and demand that he City hire more police we have good people waiting to take the job. Get the most articulate in front of the cameras then take all down to the Department of Personnel to sign up.
Have the number of police officers we are short for the reporters.
