Actually, I was at the last couple recruit graduations and a good amount were veterans,they were singled out, were told to stand up and recieved special recognition and applause.
At yesterday's compost meeting one of the New York guys told the exempts that if one of their officers plays on the supe's softball team then the exempt should change the officers hours so they can play.
So I can't get the day off, but if I'm one of McSoftball's bitches I don't have to come to work? WTF?

Fire department wants me too. Even with 10years on I'm still considering it even though its a 35grand pay cut. On the fire dept every work day is your Friday. Less chance ill get sued. I can do nothing all day and still be considered a hero. Being the police is a thankless job. No one on the street respects you. Shit no one in the court room respects you anymore. Chicago media and every lawyer in town can't wait to stick it to you. So if I can make the same money working two days a week and get the same pension.
Does anyone know the name of the attorney handling the lawsuit against the city for the PO's kids? I had talked to him, but lost his name and number. I found the transcripts.of MY hearing against the City and Tracy Ladner. The judges have been doing that for a while. I inquired why this was the case? I got a reply. The County wants the judges to handle two to three court rooms and they can't leave early like they used to. Especially on Friday's when everyone left early.
So the judges are pissed and because it's up to them to determine the final outcome. The final outcome is always going to be not guilty.

Close to the end of my career and I can say Traffic Court never really pissed me off. They pay me to write them. They pay me to go to court. The taxpayers are the ones that should be mad. All that revenue out the window.

I know of a large state Univeristy which no longer welcomes the CPD recruiters to their annual job fairs since the city raised the hiring age to 25.
The recruiters were asked what the graduates were supposed to do for an average of 4 years post graduation?
They replied get hired by another department and bring their experience to the CPD!
Right and sit through 6 months of academy training because they have experience now.

What a bunch of bullshit. I know two people who worked their ass off to get school and college credit and were waiting to take the test when the City raised the age. Then Ladner comes in and fucks it all up a lot more. Screw this City, they will screw you.
Some of the best police officers I ever met came on at age 20 but turned 21 at O'Brien St. I came on with a GED. You don't need more to push a beat car. Clout matters more than college.
I was going to stay till 63 but it stopped being enjoyable so I left with the 60/medical and am damn glad I did. No regrets. I enjoyed most of my time on and I really enjoy my time off. Being retired is wonderful.

Several people I knew quit and went over to the Fire Dept. None of them regretted it. If you can go then I say do it and don't look back. Just be advised that it isn't you father's fire department like it isn't your father's police department.
They send equipment to every ambulance call so you will be going to a lot of those, if you work an engine or a truck, lots of ambulance calls in your future. They treat them like glorified ambulances now.

A dozen homicides make it safer too if the right people are getting kilt.
They send equipment to every ambulance call so you will be going to a lot of those, if you work an engine or a truck, lots of ambulance calls in your future. They treat them like glorified ambulances now.
So you go to the ambulance call and do what? Stand around and watch the paramedics work Might cut into your sleep, but not much else
