Another Innocent Catches a Bullet
Six dead, twenty-one wounded this weekend, including this six-year-old:
- A person was in police custody this evening in connection with the shooting of a 6-year-old girl and her aunt, wounded during a Fernwood neighborhood memorial for a man shot to death in 2008, a source said.
The shooting started about 8 p.m. Friday in the 300 block of West 105th Street, when one young man spotted two others and started shooting and the two returned fire.
The girl and her aunt, age 52, innocent bystanders, were the only victims. The girl, who had been riding her scooter, was hit in the chest, collapsed, and writhed a bit before she stopped moving, according to witnesses.

We wonder where she fell on the "heat list." Maybe instead of making tenuous connections between assholes who probably deserve to get shot and drafting letters to them, the community ought to demand fewer "more with less" speeches and a couple more "hire police" commitments.

Operative word in this sentence is "community", a standard definition being:
"A self-organized network of people with common agenda, cause, or interest, who collaborate by sharing ideas, information, and other resources."
Let's break that down a bit:
"Self-organized network of people".
Nope. The catered-to and mollycoddled Democratic-voting constituency prefers just about everything handed to them.
"Common agenda, cause or interest".
Yep. To keep the hedonistic, contribute-nothing-in-return approach to life unimpeded.
"Who collaborate by sharing ideas, information, and other resources."
Nope. In the grand scheme of things, they mostly contribute misery and National Debt.
So don't expect this community - or any like it - to welcome, let alone demand, anything that would interfere with how they've lived for generations. Bottomless entitlements come with hazards like their kids geting shot, and the last thing they want is more police around messing with the ebb and flow of their status quo.
A generalization? Some might say so. But such negative ghetto-exclusive phenomena are certainly much more prevalent than any behavior that normal society as a whole deems acceptable emanting from the same demographic.
I feel sorry for that little girl. Sorry that her aunt is likely her reluctant surrogate mother; the birth mother is probably only 18-20 years old herself and is out doing anything BUT being a Mom.
Sorry that the first "black" president, through inaction and wanton disregard for the people of his very own hometown, has done so much to slip the symbolic chains of slavery back onto the ankles of those that have twice propelled him into the highest elected office in this (once)great nation.

And golfers. Don't forget shooting at golfers. Retired friend emailed me that he was golfing at The Meadows in Blue Island this morning when he and his group heard three gunshots. Someone drove by and shot at and hit some enormously obese dude that they had seen sitting in the bar on their way to the 10th hole. Doesn't go on Chicago's stats though.
