For the Children...Again

  • About 200 people — including 20 to 30 students — rallied outside Chicago Public Schools on Wednesday, as the Board of Education on Wednesday approved the district’s annual budget, which includes hundreds of millions in cuts.

CBS 2 [...] reports the students were boycotting school for a day to protest school closings and budget cuts at CPS.

Community activists who organized the protest rally and boycott said it would serve as a real-life lesson for students.

  • But [Barbara] Byrd-Bennett said children belong in class, not at a rally to protest district policies.

“I think to use children as a protest tool, and not to attend school is reprehensible,” Byrd-Bennett said. “Our children need an education. Our children need to be in school, and if we have differences, then the adults should come to the table and have those conversations.”

Really? Because everything Rahm has been doing for the past two years is "for the children." Children are a prop, to be used when necessary and ignored when not useful to the cause.

Rahm also had a quote that isn't in the article about how if the parent had a problem with him, they shouldn't protest but rather confront him in the courts, which shows a shocking lack of knowledge about how a Republic is supposed to work and how the separation of powers was originally written. That was from a live quote on the NewsRadio segment that we can't find any link to.

I did see, on the news, a bunch of protestors holding signs that said something to the effect "one term Rahm" or "one term mayor" and it had a picture of 9.5. We can only hope!

Rahm wants plaintiffs to settle in court because he'll have better chances. Isn't that why a judge recused herself in a case where Daley was supposed to take the stand?

This is ILLINOIS. This is CHICAGO.

This place is The Corruption Capital, USA.

Blame Rham, it is him cutting the money from the schools. Rham doesn't care about the children.

The only time a liberal won't use a child as a prop is at a pro-choice rally.

As one who has never used the public schools and have sent my children to private I am glad to see these cuts in the schools. The system is way over bloated with administrators who do nothing but bleed the system dry. For example, Cook County jail runs a high school for 200 inmates. This very school has a principal, 2 vice principals, and 50 office staff. That comes out to 4 students for every 1 office worker. The Chicago catholic schools run the largest private school system in the country with less personnel than the cook county jail school.

I totally agree with Barbara Byrd Bennett: children belong in school and need to attend class and actually study while they are there.

With that thought in mind, let's ditch the bogus holidays (symbolic and political pandering holidays) and keep the children in school. If you want to honor the memory of Dr. King or Casmir Pulaski, do it by going to school on that day.

Fuck the schools! Stop wasting money on these shitholes that graduate kids who can't even read. Most are nothing more than day care for welfare momma's who don't know that Lemonjello is actually lemon jello!
I'm tired of listening to all the whining from asshole parents and socialist teachers as my tax $$'s go down the drain. I'm not getting any fucking tax break or government handout to help educate my kids. My wife and I both work, send our kids to private schools, underwrite the shitty schools, and then get our taxes raised to pay for this shit show. FUCK OFF!
You want your kid to go to school? Get a job and pay for it you low life non tax paying jagoffs!

I would like someone to do background checks on some of these protesting " parents" to see if they work, pay property taxes and how involved they actually are with their children. Interesting, I understand there were teachers with their children at this protest. They are doing nothing but trying to protect their jobs. More money for education and for the children always means most of the cash goes into pay and benefits.Chicago pays more for per pupil education then any school system in the country and look at the results ! More money is not the answer.

You should not use children as props.

Now, kees me you fool!!!!

Was it for the children that Rahm took $55 million of TIF money (money for schools) and gave it to DePaul for a new sports arena and some investors for a new hotel in the south loop?

Why does these mayors alway
hire some black man or woman
and put them in place to do
their dirty work, such as this Byrd woman who was brought in from Cleveland to
close the schools and parrot
Rahm's reasons for the closings. Could this be payback for the CTU president calling his behind
out and embarassing him ?

It's for the children, is a phrase originally coined by Marian Wright Edalman, the CEO of the Save the Children foudation, where Hilary Clinton was chief counsel. That one was worn, out and discarded by the left, twenty years ago. Never let a crisis go to waste, was originally said by Joseph Stalin. Rahm has never had an original thought, or idea, in his entire life.

The only school Rahm cares about is the Chicago Lab School because that is where elitists like himself send their children.

All this is part of an implosion of the USA. Education is one of the things that needs to be destroyed and it pretty much has been for the most part. Tiny dancer did not wind up here by accident. He's part of the game and so far he's doing well. I suggest a great book called "The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America" which is available for free. Click here to download. Everyone should read this book.

SCC,

You are right absolutely right about Rahm's lack of knowledge about how a Republic functions. I am getting the feeling he does not care. Protesting is a
inalienable right. It goes back to the Roman Republic. Once people forget this then we become another oppressed society.

When you have a society of adults who care more about sports or celebrities then their duties as citizens or knowledge about the Constitution then it is evident that America has been dumbed down.

A revival of civic duty will save the Republic!

LIE: Chicago pays more for per pupil education then any school system in the country and look at the results ! More money is not the answer.

FACT: Per pupil spending
Niles Township CHSD 219 ($22,915)
Lake Forest CHSD 115 ($22,003)
Evanston Township HSD 202 ($20,976)

Chicago District 299 ($11, 391)

Notice the difference.

Hey, dumbass...it isn't administrators that they just cut. It was teachers. Many, many teachers. Teachers who were put into place because Rahm wanted a longer school day last year. Art teachers, language teachers, music teachers, technology teachers, social studies teachers, math teachers, science teachers, etc. So now you have schools with longer school days, larger class sizes, and fewer teachers. The administrators are still there, sucking up the $$$$$$$$$. CPS keeps rearranging their numbers, saying "We've cut the budget by $2 million over the last few years!" but when you ask them where in the budget -- what line item -- they say "oh, you can't see it on paper." So they're lying, plain and simple. And giving the $$$$ to school privatization -- charter schools -- that really don't do better than the public schools (and often do much, much worse). So go let your kids get molested by priests, bullied by kids who aren't like them, and pay high tuition for the privilege of doing so. Just keep your mouth shut about things of which you have absolutely no knowledge.
