Job Action at NYPD

Of course, even advocating action like this here will get you brought up on charges and fired, but this is a helluva move by the NYPD Union:
  • Nypd beat cops posted a police-union warning in every precinct yesterday instructing officers not to go above and beyond the call of duty — or risk losing their jobs because of the new stop-and-frisk laws, The Post has learned.

“All officers should take action if he or she sees a crime in progress, or if he or she sees that his or her life or the life of another person is in danger . . . [But] all officers should be careful not to initiate any law-enforcement action that could be construed as violating the new legislation and subject the officer to legal action,” read the memo by Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association president Patrick Lynch.

Several rank-and-file cops said yesterday that they plan on following Lynch’s advice rather than risk their careers.

“We are being told not to look for perpetrators of crimes because then we are opening ourselves up to a lawsuit and the job isn’t going to represent us,” a police source said.

“Crime is about to skyrocket. We are going to show up and take reports. This was the safest city in the country . . . Now most crimes will go unsolved.”

Another source added: “These rookies are just getting on the job out of college. They’re not going to risk their pensions. Arrests are going to drop, and crime’s going to soar.

“It really puts a wrench into law enforcement. They’re going to be second-guessing everything they do.”
Another cop agreed that fear of being sued will hinder investigations — even in rape cases.

“If someone gets raped and says it was a black male, I’m going to be handicapped to stop someone because I could get sued for racial profiling. So now I’m just going to take reports,” the cop said.
Our first thought was, "Hey look! NYPD is copying Chicago this time!" instead of the other way around. We imagine New York will rapidly begin to experience the joys of wildings and armed robberies in broad daylight as Chicago has.

Well the constitution either means something or it don't. Under Obama I think it's just a piece of paper now.

The supreme court don't even matter there are no protections. The king only has to claim that you are a suspected terrorist and BANG all your rights are gone. No right to a speedy trail. No rights to face your accused and see evidence. You may be tortured and/or just held indefinitely in detention.

Meanwhile the corporate banker frauds continue and no one is locked up. The government regulators just stand down and watch -- they even admit the wrong doing in front of congress and the end result is yeah so what.

Take that "Quantitative Easing" for example. It's a fancy name for theft of our savings, pensions, 401K's. It's a tax without calling it a tax.

When Bernanke with a snap of his fingers changes interest rates on the 10 year treasuries from the avg 6% down below 2% it effects all of our pensions, retirement accounts and savings.

Remember two things.

1) it's not just US treasuries that are effected. The minute that rate is changed there is an entire host of other investment that are base upon them.

2) As you get closer to retirement you don't have the luxury of time any more should your savings take a loss. This is exactly why investment pro's lecture people to shift out of risky stocks and into income producing bonds.

Now assumed you saved $1 mil dollars for retirement and expected to live off the 6% interest. You'd have $60K a year to live on without touching the principle.

Now along comes Bernanke and he say's with a snap of his fingers that your money is only worth 1.8%. No one is going to borrow money from your savings and pay you 6% when the government is giving money away at 1.8% and so now your income is a lousy $18K per year instead of $60K thanks to Ben.

Now you're short $42K/ year in your retirement budget. If you pull out principle to make up for the lower interest rates the problem just gets worse and worse each year forward.

You're screwed. Your savings were robbed and they sold you on the lower interest rates are good for the economy bullshit because it create jobs. ha. So where are the jobs? Where?

They have already stolen billions of dollars using this Quantitative Easing mechanism. One day you money was worth 6% if you loaned it out and the next Ben says no you money isn't worth shit. You should only get 1.8% for it.

Anyways, we are approaching the point of chaos where we each have to decide soon if we are with the people or with the corrupt oligarchs that are robbing us ALL blind.

You know all the shit you see go down in those banana republics where .2% of the people control all the wealth. That's us now. Well you're looking at it right here.

Illinois jails are full baby.

The taxpayers are busted out!

66% state income tax increase.

10.3% real estate tax increase

15~74% CTA fare increases

I don't even remember how much parking meter rates went up they played this obfuscation game of over here vs over there so much. 50% in some places wasn't it?

Water bills up 15%

Then they have the balls to say with a straight face that the cost of living is only going up 2% a year.

SEE THIS IS THE GAME THEY WILL PLAY WITH YOUR COST OF LIVING ADJUSTMENTS ON THE PENSIONS. WATCH FOR CHANGES IN THIS IN THE REFORM PROPOSALS.

Gasoline goes up 25% to $5/gal. Oh we'll just take that out of the cost of living formula and tell you that inflation is tame. Then we'll tell you that your pension will receive cost of living adjustments and you can sit there wondering why you can't afford the things you use to.

Cost of living doesn't mean what you think it does. The political apparatus uses a different dictionary.

Yeah the jails are full and don't expect the corporations to be taxed to expand them to make society safer It ain't gonna happen.

With that said there's no need for stop and frisk. We can't afford it.

The problem with NYC's stop and frisk philosophy is that they would stop every single black male they encounter and put them on a wall. Instead of actually reading the description of the offender for important identifiers, such as age, height, weight, etc. Of course some of our tact guys do the same thing. Even if the offender is supposed to be 18, they'll stop 40 year olds.

NYPD here. Proactive policing is dead in new york. This is a direct result of comstat and the numbers driven political smoke screen that resulted from years of manipulating crime statistics. The brass pushed these policies and now they can take responsibility for the results. Stay in your car, look straight ahead, and take a report if needed. I'm just glad I have three years left.

New York is a pretty damn expensive place to live and work. Additionally, it is over-populated and congested which make it even more unattractive. Now their police force cannot do it's job without offending someone so the powers that be would rather see criminals be happy and roam unabated rather than defending and supporting the officers who would stop them. This is exactly what happened here in Chicago and if they are clueless to what goes on here, they are about to get a real awakening. I'm sure New York residents will be very happy continuing to pay ever increasing taxes while they are subjected to the devices of the low-lives who will no doubt become emboldened by their new muted police force.

Two years ago, I moved to Manhattan (from an all-white, no-crime part of Berlin/Germany), and I was flabbergasted because NYC cops are not at all like how they are presented in the movies. They are competent, unbelievably polite and sometimes even funny. They have big smiles on their faces when they pose for pitures with tourists in Little Italy or Grand Central Station. I have seen female cops here who would have been mistaken for 8th graders in Germany.

A friend old me that in the 70s and 80s, New York dog owners had big, ugly, dangerous-looking dogs. Now most dog owners have cutsie teacup doggies a third the size of my cat. I guess they will now go back to having big dogs that look like they can fight.

And you know all these young women with yoga mats? They will switch from yoga and pilates to krav maga within the next two years.

Well, you really want to say that this position is wrong, but then if you think about it, you cannot blame the rank and file for standing down. " Stop and frisk" here has always been you can stop someone, question them and if you think they have a weapon pat them down. I am long gone from the department, but I suspect more then a few search everyone they stop. That seems to have been the case in NY where less then 7 percent of searches resulted in contraband ( I think I have that number right). The liberals will win this and the black race baiters will win this, for now, or at least until things get really bad, and what is going on now is not really bad. Detroit and Newark are really bad, Garry is really bad.

Not so we can go out and get away with "Rodney Kingin" the folks but seriously so that we can do this job again.

The fear of recourse from Civil Action mixed with soft bosses and some goofballs political agenda can destroy any of our good police. I don't care who you are how aggressive you are what you do did or done we as a public figure doing this job are succeptible to being sued.

National FOP wake the fuck up and find someone to go to congress in our regard. TRY!!!

Present something. Like a CAP on bullshit suits! Or how about NOT allowing suits if it is reviewed by a created State or Federal REVIEW PANEL that must review litigation before it is allowed to be filed to see if there is really a case etc.

You always have to articulate a legal reason for a stop. If you go to court enough your furtive movement plain sight, experience /hunch etc., is going to start looking pretty weak but you have to sell it especially your experience.

Anonymous caller says M/1 at the bus stop in a red shirt has a gun in his waistband. You stop him and find the gun. You better have more than an anonymous caller when you go to court.

What is disturbing is the racial aspect. The judge is not taking into consideration what the racial makeup of the area is where the stops are made or the fact that so called minorities are currently the majority in NY.

We have loads of common sense and will act accordingly. Just like when we stopped doing curfews.

What is "reasonable suspension that crime is afoot?" Is that the Dr Scholl Law?

But really now, never once in 27 years did I ever go in court and say :Your honor, I saw this guy here slide a plastic baggie into his pocket and I knew because he be black that it must be dope and upon a proper lab test it did in fact prove to be 27 grams of heroin."

"I also knew it was dope because it was a known dope corner and the shitheads (black people) are the dope slingers and most of the customers are suburban white people."

So, since I saw right off that my suspension of dope slinging was afoot I arrested the mother fucker who said to me "go fuck yourself white ass mother fucker poleese."

When we got to court his slick long haired shylock hippie lawyer demanded a finding of no probable cause and the judge promptly granted same whereupon I got my time due slip signed for my overtime and I left, like always.

NYPD here. Proactive policing is dead in new york.

Best of luck until the pendulum swings back our way again.

Well hello Lena. Welcome to our little blog. Furthermore welcome to the good old U S of A.

If you want to encounter some really nice cops, I suggest you come to Chicago and visit a little bistro we call Beatrice's.

You will meet a group of cops who will be so friendly, you will forget all about NYC. You will also learn the joys of PBRs and Kesslers.

You will also meet women that use yoga mats to train their dogs.
