Know What the West Side Needs?

  • With backing from the local alderwoman and money from City Hall, a new liquor store opened earlier this year in South Austin -- one more purveyor of alcohol, cigarettes and lottery tickets in a neighborhood desperate for something more.

Informing the original backer of the store that he would be getting $105,000 in city funds, a letter from the Department of Community Development exclaimed: "Thank you for reinvesting in the City of Chicago!"

Many residents weren't so enthusiastic. To them, the new business was an insult.

But what even they didn't know was that the store was bankrolled and launched by a convicted drug-dealer who has been tied to a street gang and is facing yet another narcotics charge.
Now THAT is comedy gold right there folks. Convicted felon, known gang banger, supported by an aldercreature, facing more charges, gets over $100,000 in City money to open a liquor store, no doubt enabling him to launder dope money and maybe even commit LINK fraud.

Hollywood called - they say this script is even too unbelievable for them.

I believe Alderman Nick Sposato had the right idea when he collected toilet paper for the schools but he will most likely be giving some of that to his constituents when they shit their pants from putting up with the gangs coming around and no 'policemans' to help.

I believe it. It is modern big city politics in action. Follow the money. Worse things go on at the federal level, much worse things. Any adverse flashback will be blamed on the evil republican anarchists, but in the background there are always democrat politicians involved.

The two stories I read upon waking this morning, back to back. were this gem, and the one abut the low turnout for the gang summit.

I then realized I could make a great deal of money by compiling news stories such as these, and it would probably make the NY Times best seller list.

My only conundrum is that I can't decide the category. Comedy? Or nonfiction?

Not so surprising, from the City of Chicago, who already paid $$$ millions in taxpayer money to the Ceasefire felons (and for what???). Some large scale malfeasance, to say the least, and maybe some RICO violations, if someone were to look closely enough.

Two weeks ago there is a story about how liquor stores drive violence. Now the city funds a liquor store! Thus, the city funds violence. A + B = C. The city then funds VRI to stop the violence. To get the funds to pay for VRI, the city raises taxes. Because the city must fund the violence reduction, they can't fund pensions. Vicious circle.

Just another case of our elected officials being in the bag with gang bangers and criminals. This ongoing problem can be solved is the city counsel is reduced by half and the inspector general has the authority to investigate the unethical behavior of alderman.

Geez, every time I drive around 11 all I can think is that they should get RID of every single liquor store.

Replace them with fruit and whole-grain food stores.

Instead, the city thinks another liquor store is 'reinvesting' in the city?

What happened in Detroit is happening here.

Politicians robbed the city blind.

They drove businesses and workers out.

Detroit invested what little funds they had, including pension funds, into useless improvements in the inner city, new buildings, etc.

Ring a bell?

Retire at 55 if you can, work another 10 years somewhere you can sock away every penny and then enjoy your 2 years before you are dead of a heart attack.

Unfortunately, this comment is not too far from the truth. The average life expectancy for a police officer ( male) who retires at 63 is five years. The health problems will start to show themselves in the mid to late 50's for many. By the time you are in the mid 60s, well??

The only reason blogo got it is because the cook county dems gave it to him. The U.S. attorney will do nothing to the combine. He will turn in a minor player from time to time, or someone that leaves the fold, but NOTHING will be allowed to proceed against the likes of daley. The best solution would be a crazed individual with a woodchipper.
