Another Dope Dealer Gets Paid
- The Chicago Police Department’s practice of denying arrestees medical treatment for up to 48 hours is unconstitutional, according to a federal jury which Monday awarded $1 million in damages to the family of a seriously ill woman who died in police custody.
Lawyers for the family of May Molina hailed the verdict as a landmark ruling that will force the City of Chicago to change the way it handles suspects who are held for up to two days in police cells.
“This is a strong statement that they’ll have to change,” attorney John Loevy said Monday evening after the city and all seven Chicago cops who were accused of failing to care for Molina were found liable at the end of a three-week civil trial.
“Chicago is going to have to come into line with the way the rest of the nation provides medical care to detainees,” Loevy said.
Molina, an asthmatic, diabetic and obese 55-year-old community activist, died in the North Side Town Hall district police station in 2004 after officers repeatedly ignored warnings that she needed medical help.
We had no idea there was a policy of denying medical assistance - we'll have to review that one. Perhaps Rahm should look into assigning a paramedic to each and every lockup who can make a qualified medical judgement as to who needs a band-aid and who needs a hospital bed.
As to the changes, there's a perfectly good hospital for prisoners available right now - Cermak Hospital on the grounds of the jail. But you'll never see County Intake accepting prisoners 24-hours a day. Nor will you ever see County accepting prisoners who complain of so much as a hangnail during the morning deliveries. Tie that into the "48-hour Rule" for detentions and Preckwinkle's and Dart's people not wanting to do their jobs with anything even resembling efficiency, and you are going to see a clusterfuck that rivals the Obamacare roll out.
And let's completely gloss over the fact that the deceased was a dope dealing piece of garbage who swallowed her own work to avoid charges and then died from it, all the while refusing treatment. You can't fix stupid, but evidently, you can score a million bucks from it.

Contrary to the article, she did not die in the Town Hall District. She was arrested there but died in Belmont female lockup. The Molina family lawyer is full of shit, any counselor that makes a request that his client go to a hospital is going to be honored. You'd have to be a fool not too.
Crains reports overall pension liabilities dropped 9 percent due to strong gains on investments.
Also record profits for CME millionaires due in part to the tax cut they received.
Ouch... obama won't be happy when he finds out they are now calling drug dealers "community activist"
not to worry -- rahm is warming up to play and dance 'fiddler on the roof'
as barges loaded with garbage are set ablaze while floating down the chicago river -- for the nato inspired high roller tourist.... wait i mean it's 'for the children'
well that one-million dollars would certainly put a dent in the 8.7 days of cash on hand the city has left to work with.
if they paid it that is.
we all know there's a different set of rules depending on ones bank balance and political connections tho so good luck with that. we no longer follow the rule of law here were contracts and court orders matter....right.
check out the wsj interactive graphs here to see how screwed chicago is financially

A Case Study In A City On The Edge Of Bankruptcy: Fresno, California
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 11/04/2013 - 19:39
"The reality is we're doing less with less," is the dismal reality facing Fresno police chief and appears to sum up the situation facing many of America's cash-strapped cities (as we previously discussed here). Fresno's problem, as the mayor put it, "we have no money in the current account all." The situation was so dire that covering an unexpected expense—a new air-conditioning unit or firetruck, for example, would mean slicing into the payroll or borrowing from another depleted city fund. "We can get through the day to day. [But] if there's a derailed train, a natural disaster, where's the money going to come from?" Like many other cities, Fresno saw its sales- and property-tax revenue plummet as the economy tanked. In response, the city slashed services and staff. Fresno now can pay its bills, but it can't do much more than that.

So confused. I doubt there is a 48 hour wait for medical assistance.
She swallowed heroin and it is the city's fault?
When I know my time is up, I will go crazy in the city and my kids will be set, what more can a father do?
Does the city have to give the heroin, that the arrestee swallowed, back to the family?
Federal Court. That one million does not cover legal expenses. That is billed to the City separately. The City can use the Richard M Daley method of municipal finance and go to Vito for the money at 2% interest. That's 2% per week. That's Richy's idea of a good deal.
So someone dealing dope swallows their poison when arrested. The dope is in their stomach, but they figure they can pass it later on, dig through their own feces, and then cell or shoot this dope after they are released?
Somewhere this great plan goes wrong and the body does it's work and absorbed said dope and kills the idiot that took it. Now why in the world am I, the taxpayer, on the hook for their stupidity? What is wrong with system and why is this even at trial. What kind of scum steals from the good citizens and how do we allow this to happen?
Every smart lock-up keeper knows to send them to the hospital. Ideally, bond them out from the hospital.
In fact, this is why the the smart WC always I-bonds everyone ASAP. Get these pigs the fuck out of our facility and let them die at home or on the street.
One of the goofs found guilty in the Berrios connected bribery scnadal has a long rap sheet dating back to his days as an IUK in the late 70's and 80's. His name is Thomas 'Tommy' Hawkins and if you pulled up the word thug, you'd see his picture. Look this tool up. 'Tommy' was hired by Larry Rogers as a favor to Rickey Hendon, another thug.
Tommy was a gangbanger from the Bucktown neighborhood, back in the late 70's and early 80's before Bucktown was gentrified. Tommy was a well-known member of the IUKs with ties to Luis Gutierrez and Ricardo Munoz and his MO was to cause havoc in the neighborhood, including beating white people up, robbing people and their homes, selling drugs out of Holstein Park/Pulaski School and on the corner of Damen/McLean Aves, harassing older people, spray painting people's property, etc.... A BASIC THUG!!
A quick investigation into Tommy's criminal past will connect the dots with him and the old HDO, even though Tommy is black.
Molina, an asthmatic, diabetic and obese 55-year-old community activist..........community activist? She could have been president one day, such a waste
And let's completely gloss over the fact that the deceased was a dope dealing piece of garbage who swallowed her own work to avoid charges and then died from it, all the while refusing treatment.
If she was taken to a hospital and refused treatment, then none of this should have happened. If she was in the lock up puking her guts out while still refusing medical treatment then.........
And people call me crazy-----
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
She swallows heroin + She refuses medical treatment + She dies = City and Coppers found to be at fault.
Stop it juries, my head is spinning.
With 50% going to the People's Law office, and after the Molinas feast on chicken and beans for a month, pay their ObamaCare premium and gas bill, they'll be looking for another Rahmmy Give-a-Way in the contact card system.
Now one has to wonder if that CB # was really worth it.
Any punative damages for the officers?
Just put all of the prisoners in "Obama Care"
O.T. Get this, the 002nd District Xmas party is being held withen district boundaries at 45th and King Drive. Not only that, but it seems that the Caps office messed up and didnt submit the date to the Chiefs office and now it is being held on 11 Jan. 2014. Officers are reluctant to attend due to the fact that they don't want to subject their family members to having to party on second district soil. All officers are not only being toldt they will purchase a ticket but that attendance is expected. $65.00 to party in the district and be served by those that you locked up last week? Crazy. Christmas in Jan.???
Did the coppers get hit with punitive damages?
Dart's minions are a lot dumber than the pumpkins I've seen on porch fronts this Halloween season, painted as Gru's minions.
Can't you just over-look locking up these medical nightmares? Let their own drug abuse do them in.
The situation was so dire that covering an unexpected expense—a new air-conditioning unit or firetruck, for example, would mean slicing into the payroll or borrowing from another depleted city fund.

one can live without a/c, and fire trucks are capital equipment. lease them if you have to. there are other options to soaking the taxpayer.
its not like the need for a new fire truck just pops up without any chance whatsoever for planning to deal with it. buy a used one.
*The Police are the problem in Chicago... Once we "fix" them, everything else will fall in place.*
One way or another...
The Police are being made to go away.
The war against The Police and their mutual concerns with the few remaining upright citizens in this city is reaching it's conclusion.
In the REAL world, there isa no way The Police will be forced to bear responsibility for for a dope-swallowing "communnity activist" who made an intentional decision NOT to reveal the source of her distress (swallowed illegal narcotics) in hope of avoiding responsibility for being in possession of same.
She alone, bears sole responsibility for her own demise.
The jury system in Cook County has been successfully dumbed down to the lowest common denominator.
Only a fool would willingly put their fate in the hands of the catered to willfully ignorant and joyfully uninformed.
a pool of professional jurors would be a hard check and balance to this madness.
When they assign me to the lockup, if a prisoner asks to be sent to a hospital for medical treatment, I do my job. I go to the station supervisor and they can decide what to do. Then go back and document it in the log book.
“Loevy is going to have to come into line with the way the rest of the nation provides tough love to criminals,” Legal Resident said.
Loevy your greed will lead you into the gates of hell.
the piece shit deserve to die she swallowed heroin police did nothing wrong
Great. Now our first stop will be the hospital following every single arrest. More tax payer dollars wasted. More man hours wasted. Longer wait times in the ER'S for legitimate patients with legitimate illnesses. This city, state, and country are going right down the shitter. Only in America could the family of a drug dealing criminal loser who swallowed a bunch of heroin get paid a million dollars for her deserved death. Everyone in this country has lost their fucking minds.
Another payout for a drug swallowing, drug dealing shitbird and her family. Wonder how much government assistance the family gets? Now that they hit the ghetto jackpot, do they still qualify for the sec 8 housing, link card, wic, and ssi? If there was real justice in this world, these leaches of society would be paying back what they've taken from the taxpayers' pockets then they would keep what was left- all 3 cents!
All'z I know is, if your looking for 11th District station all you need do is follow the pretty flashing red lights of the bambulances semi-permanently parked in front for the dope sick and in-custody. And, a word of advice to the community organizers of Chicago...don't eat your dope!
Perhaps IF the city had fully qualified Corp. Counsels, they could put on a defense to a case like this.
Just saying.
How much did the coppers get hit with?
The Officers and City need to appeal on the grounds that the ME wasn't allowed to testify and give expert testimony about the nature of the cause of death.
Warnings from Molina’s lawyer, five to 10 callers and Molina herself that she was seriously ill and needed to see a doctor all went unheeded before she died after more than 24 hours in custody, evidence showed.
=====================
if true, that is a tough thing to get past. regardless of why she may have been ill.
I have to work my whole life to see a million dollars while the family of this dope dealing heroin addict gets a free handout. UNREAL

EXACTLY!!! A wrongful death law suit, yet the judge refuses to allow the ME to testify to cause of death???
I don't get it....
Hopefully no civil suits the city just gives away all taxpayers money like rahm finding hundreds of millions for the bullshit Maggie Daley park and that pathetic DePaul stadium, why are we paying for a private shit teams facilities? Mo money wasted but cannot fund pensions? Guess with Obama in White House we get no extra cash like when President Bush was in Crawford Texas was flush with cash for first responders and pension plans!
Where do these assholes get this information. The shitheads get better medical treatment then we do when we are IOD. They get free drugs,ct. scans and MRI. They dont get sick till they are locked up. Almost every arrestee at the area north who is going to court from the lock up ends up going to the hospital before leaving which amounts to a shithouse of wasted time not just transporting them to the hospital but babysittig them.
The tax payers should be outraged that our current society (and dumb juries) financially rewards people who sell, use, and (swallow) illegal narcotics. How did we ever come to this? Police officers are hero's of modern day era despite what the media would like to report. I wonder where the million dollar lawsuit judgment will be spent….Hmmm. perhaps on more drugs to pedal to our children and stir more street violence!? Lets keep it real. Great message our Government sends drug dealers. Yeah, we are so tough on crime!
Approved attorney fees for this case is 433 K.
Many hours of legal works spent to prove this case. Many of the attorneys worked weekends, 12 hour days, helping this poor family prevail. The money will not bring back this active activist.
That woman was about 5'3 and about 500 lbs. She had no neck and sweated sitting still. If the ME would have been allowed to testify I wonder what she would have said about the medical problems being super morbidly obese caused for her.
Oh and I wonder how that whole swallowing dope thing played into her death? Maybe that played a small part.......but that's crazy talk!! A 500 lb woman should be able to swallow dope and live right? If not then the taxpayers should pay through the nose to this upright citizens family.
Ok let me stop I couldn't keep a straight face typing that b.s
"all the while refusing treatment."
They took her to the Hospital & got a release stating she refused treatment?
Sorry verbal doesn't cut it, she isn't the first Mutt to die in custody for swallowing Dope& the family got a payday. Those that don't learn from their mistakes are doomed to repeat it.

Ok first, ALL officers CAN NOT attend due to the fact that if ALL officers did attend, there would be NO officers on the watch. Second, you DO NOT have to purchase a ticket to ANY police function if you don't wish to. They can NOT make you purchase jack shit. There will be a trick to it if I buy a fucking ticket to that bullshit!
Christmas party...fuck that bullshit!

I never heard any copper "having to purchase a ticket" ever. I would laugh in any bosses face that said that.
I guess mama really was worth a million bucks.

More responses from the lawyers and other shit birds that troll this site.
Read it again. She swallowed her dope in an effort to keep it from the police. This dope killed her. Why in the world are the taxpayers paying her dope dealing family a million dollars?
If an arrestee want to go to the hospital and Supervisor denies it, call 911 from a station phone and say you need an ambulance for a prisoner. That's it. Isn't it a shame you have to do it this way? Disobey an order and take prisoner to hospital against supervisor orders?
They can't make you buy a ticket or go.
Hire paramedics for all city lockups?
The Officers and City need to appeal on the grounds that the ME wasn't allowed to testify and give expert testimony about the nature of the cause of death.

I dont either, but there has to be a reason or precedent to allow that. The city attorneys cant be that stupid not to object
I never heard any copper "having to purchase a ticket" ever. I would laugh in any bosses face that said that.
You have lived a sheltered life
Not to mention that her son, the new millionaire, was convicted of murder, got his conviction reversed by the IL SC on a BS claim of actual innocence, and then pled guilty afterwards.
Stupid trash acting that way and I'm paying for it. No RIP from here. Fuck them.
Only in Crook County.

Officers from outside the district are detailed in for the night of the party so any officer that wants to attend can.
Mrs Molina is dead and her million memories will carry on.
Two 2014 Jaguars from Howard Orloff in Buck town were ordered by bereaved lotto winners.
Red all around in color.
The attorney stated police regularly deny these criminals medical assistance. As you know we send every arrestee to the hospital just for asking, all of them, the ones that haven't seen a dr. or hospital in 20 yrs. Why doesn't the city keep track in a data base so we stop this madness of giving away money to these bs lawsuits. Just interview the area hospitals and they will tell the courts how many prisoners we bring in for bs. And sitting at the hospital with these criminals asking for a menu and laughing at the police that that are faking,
it's a joke.
Any punative damages for the officers?
Any punitive to the WC that ultimately made the decision NOT to send her to the hospital? That's the one where the deceased sister spit in the WC face right? That guy has been sued plenty for screwing up
No punitives. 1 million comprehensive damages awarded.
Nobody denied sending her to hospital, and she said she didn't want to go!
Someone please explain how the smartest of lockup keepers or WCs are supposed to I-bond those arrested for Delivery/PCS..
How come none of those very, very, very concerned callers told any police, BTW, she swallowed six packs of H?
The fam' ordered two red cars already?! What if there's an appeal and they lose, they gonna give 'em back?!
