On Being a Cop
Jim Padar, retired CPD, started a blog a few years back with a number of amusing and poignant stories from "back in the day." The style was one we recognized as hearing over the dinner table or at family gatherings from a number of folks who were on the job. It was story-telling as we remembered.
Jim now has a book out and you can read about it and order it at this site here:
A portion of the proceeds are going to the Chaplains Ministry and the Memorial Foundation.

Better yet, go to his book-signing at the Irish American Heritage Center, 4626 N. Knox on 06 December!
From their website: "The On Being a Cop Book Launch is Friday, December 6 at 7pm. The reading and signing are free and books will be available for purchase. Patrons can enjoy light refreshments and a cash bar."
Dennis Banahan wrote a book after he retired. It was pretty good, but he should have wrote one about his life with Regina, who is still in federal custody.
It would be classified as non fiction but no one from a normal world would believe it possible.
Now, Kees me you fool!!!!
Great...another cop book telling war stories and talking about free meals! Can't wait
He co-authored this book with his kid, Sgt Jay Padar.
1. Detective Padar can tell a great story.
2. Look forward to every blog entry.
3. The warmth and decency he communicates can make my whole day.
4. My copy is enroute, thank you very much SCC!

Since you obviously haven't read any of the stories on Padar's blog - or maybe you just can't read - why not shut up until you do?
As others have said, the stories are great and Jim has a wonderful talent in writing them. His case narratives must have left them in stitches.
Thanks for sharing, Jim (and Jay).
See ya Friday night. Don't forget the Super Dawgs!
The fact that they're donating part of the proceeds to the Memorial Foundation and our Chaplains Ministry tells you something about the character of the (CPD) authors.
In addition they are donating copies of their books to the packing effort (4 December) of gift boxes to our CPD members presently serving in the military that won't be home for Christmas.
Taking care of our own. THANK YOU !

Hey Ms.Sunshine...
That was just too cute.
A Police Father & Son take the time and effort to distill their experiences and collaborate on a book in an effort to show the human side of Chicago Patrolmen and you have the nerve to openly disrespect that?
That was HOLY ground you pissed on with your failed attempt at sarcasm.
Run away, hide and fuck yourself, ok?
And if you ARE a Copper, (and we hope to God that you're not) run away, hide, fuck yourself twice and resign... We're the better without you or your stinking thinking.
Just finished the book Jim and enjoyed every page. Even tho I 'm on the dark side for my career you must know the 'off' job was always some sort of LE.
What a great idea for you and Jay to bring to print.
You two come on the talk show sometime too so the word can come out to the "Historian" audience. Goo Luck !!!!!!!!
Hey Padar boy's. Great job!
I'll pick up a copy this week.
Never met you guy's, but I'm sure I'll find plenty of stuff I can relate with.
Good to see a father and son connecting and creating! That's what life's about!!!!
This is awesome!
Maybe with the extra money they will make Jay can finally afford to pay his carpenter!
The Rat
Sorry but Denny's book was not a good read, and the female character in that book was Regina.
Well if anyone can write a book of war stories, why aren't there thousands out there. It takes a real talent to translate the spoken word to written, and Jay has done just that.
