Perhaps some of these detectives can follow the trail on this one. "Youth's in the city assaulting us, EPA & BLM and others driving us off our rural lands, forced into the cities so we can all become prey to the "teens" or "youth" in the ghettos formerly known as cities.

It should be more like 240.

I don't believe they added any merit.

40 what a waist of time, but we will take them. In area south we have about 20 retiring this year and are already about 40 short.

Take the 40 city wide over 3 watches and 7 day off groups. Gives each watch in each area about 1 new Detective per day.

I did not even mention the other units Detectives are assigned to.

140 new Detective would not even come close to replacing what is actually needed! 40, WTF????

4/10/2014 06:07:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

You won't or should not get many more e-mails from Rich. He retired as of the 15th.

4/10/2014 06:17:00 PM

Will this be a promotion from the last list? Or is it a appointment like the new directive reads? If it's an appointment ? We they even get detective pay? Not if the mayor or supt has any say in it!!!

4/10/2014 06:21:00 PM

Which will come first. My promotion to detective or I stop breathing.

4/10/2014 06:24:00 PM

Wow, a whole 40. Half of them will be eligible to retire this year and 40 won't even cover what's retired in the past year.

detectives list. McCarthy used all 30 percent for merit... In this case I agree. From what I hear very good and hard working coppers were the merit spots. Gmac is looking to getting rid of testing all together for detectives and have it completly all merit which I must say I agree with. If you work, have a good head on your shoulders and are recognized by your supervisors as a good copper then im all for you making merit. No more inside dollies, no more side a**, no more lazy coppers who became a dic because they passed the test and are gonna do absolutly NOTHING in the D-unit just like patrol dogs etc...

401's only if the City kicks in at the same rate as the statutory minimum pension contribution. That is, a multiplier of 2, we kick in say 10% and City doubles that so that makes it 30%. That would work for me in I had 20 years to let it grow. I would put 100% in Vanguard S&P 500 index fund and end up with more money in there than with a regular pension fund.

In the past seven years this job has really gone down hill.

The media beats us every chance they get, lawyers manipulate the law at greater levels every year, the politicians don't back us at all and the majority of the public either hates us or is indifferent to our plight.

Thus started the Blue Malaise, not quite the Blue Flu and not for the same reasons. The Blue Malaise hit patrolmen the hardest. We are no longer an aggressive police department. We are in survival mode, not just physically but legally and financially. This is not the first time that crisis has hit this department but it is the hardest and longest period of crisis and there is absolutely no end in sight.

Instead of the crisis uniting us it is tearing us apart. Everyone criticizes the supervisors, then the tact teams, the units and the detectives. Yes, the malaise has hit all these parts of the department as well. Why wouldn't it? Activity is down in patrol because everyone wants to get through the day without an allegation. Why wouldn't you expect one bag arrests and named offender closures to be a primary source of activity for tact, units and the detectives as well?

We all know this job sucks right now, we don't have to attack each other over it. Let's get back to the funny comments that made this blog a fan favorite. Lighten up Francis!

It's a better day, with D2A! And unlimited overtime for some! For me, 125K a year is plenty! Fuck VRI, fuck babysitting crybaby, know-it-all coppers as a Sgt., and fuck any other job this department has to offer. There's no other place I'd rather be. Welcome and enjoy. It's not for everyone, and not everyone is going to have it as nice as the next guy.

I still love hunting and putting cuffs on the badguy, yes I put my time in a shithole district and yes I take pride in my work.

Not tied down to the radio all day. I am treated like an adult. I treat all officers I encounter with respect and respond to their requests promptly. If your case is somewhat decent...I will get charges for you. Next time study harder for promotional exams and hey go handle that bus crash with injuries...

Again, 401k has federally mandated payment schedules and they can't be ignored or legislated away like government loves to do.

Your pension is a deferred compensation, in other words it's a calculated part of how much you get paid for working TODAY.

Try translating that into an arbitrary 401k contribution considering the constitution and state law requires you get paid every dime of what your contract states you are to be paid.

The pension protection clause protects government employees, not private. So for those who think they're gonna pipe in with the same private sector bullshit to compare to us you can go pound sand.

The state of Illinois cannot abridge contracts or violate the state constitution just because they claim they're broke, and no court has the authority to grant them the right to abridge contracts.

And again, for the stupid out there, the state ain't GM or any other private entity you care to compare it to. The laws on the books are there to ensure no state can use that excuse to violate contracts or shit on it's employees either.

Happy for all you people that got made. Retired 20 year dick here. Best job in the CPD, screw rank.
I knew a few dick' who said FU to become a Sgt.
Being a dick is a gift. You got freedom and a car to go anywhere.
Take care of the police families that are victims.
Make friends on the streets, people look at dick's in a different life.
Play by the rules because today' victim is tommarow' offender.
Victim' does not want to cooperate in him getting capped. Type it up and Suspend the case. Witnesses tell you shit and refuse to help, that's OK too, Suspend the case.
Lastly, learn from the old dick's. It just might save your ass. In a few years the old dicks will be long gone.

Costume? Listen ass hole tens of thousands of officers have been hurt and killed because they wear this "costume". Officers that didn't make it home at night just because they were wearing this "costume".

If you can't wear it with pride then don't carry your star around with you telling everyone that you are a big city police officer, which I'm sure you do.

I wear a shirt and tie every day to work and if I get special I wear my uniform proudly. My uniform not only represents the Chicago Police department, but all the men and women of the department past, present and future.

I'm sure you'll be one of those dicks that let everyone hates on the scenes, knowing it all and talking down on the "costume" police.

Hey dipshit! I'm not the original poster, and I've never worked in a specialized unit, but if you think being a detective is no better than pushing a beat car...you're a lost fucking cause. It's your own fault that you have an inferiority complex. Not mine or any other detective's. Hey dipshit! I'm not the original poster, and I've never worked in a specialized unit, but if you think being a detective is no better than pushing a beat car...you're a lost fucking cause. It's your own fault that you have an inferiority complex. Not mine or any other detective's. Go answer your fucking domestics and selling narcotics jobs and keep telling yourself that those assignments equate those of a big city dick. The arrogance comes from the simple fact that the truth is the truth. Get over it, stop talking shit, and assholes like me won't have to smear your face with shit that's the truth. There. The truth hurts doesn't it?

Inferiority complex? Look in the mirror clown. While you're at it, lay off the sauce & give EAP a call to help your anger issues .

Actually, I know for a fact that there are 2 on this list (1 in the B's + 1 in the C's) that owe there promotions to someone who was leaving the employ of the city (non cop) & was owed a favor. Not all promos in our dept are for merit or from the list. Favors + payback are still goin' strong
