Dean Meets Rahm
One comment said the "breakfast" was a cup of coffee and all of 15 minutes. This is a lot of ink for a quarter-hour meeting:
- Newly elected Fraternal Order of Police President Dean Angelo said Wednesday he’s hopeful he can work with the city to resolve the pension crisis and deliver a new contract for Chicago Police officers after breaking the ice with Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
Emanuel and Angelo met for breakfast Tuesday, their first face-to-face meeting since Angelo’s victory in a runoff election to replace ousted FOP President Mike Shields, who was a constant thorn in Emanuel’s side.
The two men never talked about the retroactive pay raise that Angelo wants Emanuel to put back on the table as a show of good faith to rank-and-file police officers who don’t trust the mayor.
Maybe if Rahm would come clean about his "1,000 Officers" lie and his lying Supernintendo and every other lie he's told to police, fire and taxpayers. Truth is an alien concept to this guy, as it is to most pols, and cops pretty much know when they're being bullshitted. No cop or fire fighter is ever going to "trust" Rahm - he's lied constantly. Angelo has to know this and we certainly hope he's trying to "look reasonable" before making Rahm look unreasonable.

If we get a terrible contract, EVERY candidate for alderman who is not a part of Rahm's cabal should be rewarded with a nice check from the F.O.P. Hopefully, some cops will run too. Time to change this municipal shit-hole for the better.

Boy, if Preckwinkle raises property taxes and Rahm raises taxes, in addition to incremental tax increases from CPS, MSD, and all of the other CC waste we are billed for on our property tax bills, Chicago homeowners are looking at massive increases. Look at the recent price increases for food, gas, child's education, etc. Removal of the residency requirement is going to be necessary.
I am aware that South Suburban communities such as Lansing and Calumet City removed their police and fire residency some time ago. The officers have to live within 30 minutes driving distance to their job. Guess what? A lot of them live in Indiana. Boy would Rahm's and the aldercreatures heads explode if we moved en mass to Indiana.
Rahm cannot and should not be trusted.

Mark my words. When I hear bullshit like Dean is willing to work with the City on the pension crisis, what I hear is that we are going to get screwed big time.
There is not any pension crisis in this City. The ARC legislation that was passed by the previous FOP administration addresses this. The only so-called crisis out there is the fact that the City doesn't want to pony up the 600 million they should have been paying for decades.
If Dean lets the City off the hook on this one, he will look more incompetent than Shields ever did. Mike may have screwed us out of a year and a half of retro, but any deal on pensions screws us all forever.
Rahm will capitulate. We'll get the retro pay. That will give a false impression that Dean is the new FOP hero and so when Rahm asks for an endorsement and votes, FOP will jump right on the bandwagon. It's time to start reading between the lines. Same with revenue for pensions. Rahm crying is just his way to get a Chicago casino with no beef from the state legislature.

I have to wonder how does the FOP Pres' expect to establish strength and unity in the push for a contract, medical and pension benefits when he doesnot present an introductory statement to the membership on the web site asking for unity. Does he think that the only vote he didnt get was from his opponent ?

VERY well said!!! Seems there has been a plan all along on how business was going to be conducted if he won and its a tad different than the stump speeches given, thats for sure. Its early but already looking like more of the same say one thing and do another. The field rep spots are a prime example. It appears after calling the lodge twice this week that there is some kinda misdirection going on since field reps have not been presented to the full board at tues meeting and several members have been up there milling around in some sort of tryout. One such person was a presidential canidate who back Dean clearly with the single purpose of gaining favor and getting that big check. Well this guy made a seriously racially inflamitory remark about a member of his own ticket to me personally. Dean was made aware of it and played clueless even though I know he was made aware prior to my conversation with him, and continues to pretend it didnt happen it seems. He is strongly entertaining the idea of bringing him up, if the deal hasnt already been struck weeks ago, even though this guy clearly WILL NOT give the entire membership equal representation! Really makes you question what Dean is all about in the long run.

Feds got NYPD for the disibility regarding the SS fraud. Thats how they got them and thats why most were 65 and over. They must have something in NY were they can also collect SS disability.

Couldn't agree more. Maybe some want to be on the board because they have seen whats happened to the union in the last 25 years and you could learn from their experience to avoid the same problems and giveaways. Some also may have kids on the job so they are interested for the benefits of their kids along with all the other young po's.
Don't be so jaded, others are at the end and have no self interest,but are trying to help the po's. I am not on the board but if I was I would be more interested in getting benefits for my kid and his group than for myself. I have a nice pension and deferred comp and wouldn't be self serving on the board.
