Tentative Fire Contract

Lots of comments popping up about this. Hopefully, there will be some info in the morning rags about what they got, what they lost and what they gave away - because it's going to affect the FOP Contract in more ways than we can imagine.

UPDATE: Here's the initial report from the Sun Times.

11% 5yrs. The FOP is just wasting time. The city isn't going to sweeten the deal and an arbitrator that's in bed with the city isn't going to take our side. Let's get this shit overwith and move on. Regardless, were not getting more than 2% a year anyway just face the fucking facts

Then we would need CFD numbers on the job. CFD only has what, like 200 employees... we want 11% we will get there, just wait a year or two till our numbers drop below 7k officers. 11% and 1 day off a month. Gonna be great.

The Lt's contract allows it to be reopened to negotiate raises in the event pension contributions are increased. CFD may not have this, and you can bet they are going to based on the last piece of legislation and the lap dogs in the house and senate that voted yes. As it stands now the Sergeants and Lieutenants only got 8%. Nice job CFD

Notice how conspicuously absent is HOW MUCH ARE THEY GOING TO HAVE TO PAY FOR HEALTH INSURANCE NOW?

And doesn't the Sergeant's Union look like fools now for shitting on themselves for 2% healthcare for retirees?

And doesn't the Lt union now look like fools for shitting on themselves as well?

Lesson for Angelo:

WE DON'T ACCEPT 2% INCREASES TO HEALTHCARE IN RETIREMENT, NOR DO WE ACCEPT LESS THAN 11% raises.

And in return, WE DON'T GIVE THIS ASSHOLE SHIT FOR PENSION THEFT, WE'VE ALREADY GIVEN UP OUR COLAS FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE CITY, WE'RE NOT GIVING UP MORE.

And Angelo better not even CONSIDER raising the age for retirement, most of us left in this shithole job have already planned out our life according to the rules we came on this job with, and planning for 20 years using our shit pension as our retirement means exactly that, WE EXPECT TO RETIRE WHEN THE FUCK WE PLANNED TO RETIRE.

Fucking anyone over on this subject should get this guy and our union strung up in a lawsuit as a defendant along with the city.

Dont kid yourself, the Media is still Heavily in bed with the Mayor, Supt. and the ultra-corrupt Administration/Regime. They will only push so far, never go for the full truth, because, truth be told, the Chicagoland News Media is on the take, and being paid off, sometimes ith cash, many times with political favors to them and their families, relatives, under the table deals, etc; etc. etc. They're all sewer-Rats in the same sewer. Chicagoland, their Media, and Political Connections, in general, is Far-Far-Far more on the Take than most people will Ever realize or could imagine. And the Feds, some who are supposed to be policing it all, yes, On-The-Take too.

FYI the article wasnt totally correct. I was at the Ex Board meeting yesterday. We will start to pay 2% for retirees in 2015 for people that take the early retirment just like the Sgt & Lt contracts call for. The reason ours will start in 2015 is because it is already 2014. The Sgt started the year after the contract.

So, Fire works out a contract that says 55 and out is free healthcare..... what are they gonna do when emanuel tries to raise the minimum retirement age to 55 then?

You don't think this is coming folks? Watch.....

You guys and gals out there who're 49 with 20 or closer?

You watch as Emanuel fucks you outta retiring in a year as you've planned for your entire career.

All those financial plans you've made? Home sales you've got a contract on? Kiss that shit goodbye if Angelo refuses to file suit against Emanuel for violating the constitution and state laws on your retirement.

Regardless of what we get, nothing compares to Angelo and our FOP selling us out on pensions, NOTHING.

50 years old is long enough to endure this job, 20 years of it is plenty of time to get beat up and working injured just to make it to a pension.

Don't give up a fucking thing and force your FOP to right any pension changes to the end.

FOP needs to publicly acknowledge this and stand with We Are One and the CTU and fight ANY changes to pensions, period.

Maybe the FOP should wake up and smell the coffee. How can the CFD union have it settled and FOP is barely started.
To bad they either gave away the "me to" clause or negotiated it away. If they hadn't we would already be covered by it while negotiating our contract.
Who was president of the FOP when the "me to" clause disappeared and what did we get for making it go away? and we does the CFD still have it?

He's an idiot if he doesn't realize that Emanuel brought him in for that very reason; to be the lightning rod for everything that's "wrong" with CPD, and to take the blame for the dwindling personnel levels and all the bad things that go with it. Emanuel then takes credit for the good, and a few of those scraps are thrown to McCarthy.

Welcome to Chicago, pal.

The big difference between local 2 and FOP, is continuity. The E.B. of Local 2 has remained unchanged for the last six yrs., except for Sgt. At Arms, who chose not to run again. Many members are in their 3rd term or more. There's not much that they haven't seen.
The lawyer has been the same for 20+yrs. Under these circumstances, letters get sent out on time, and negotiating teams don't have to waste time getting to know each other, or getting a feel for one another. There is a mutual respect that comes from longevity and having a past relationship.
Every time that a union "wipes the slate clean" it conveys a sense of instability that is hard to respect, much less take seriously. That is why your ballot should be treated with the utmost care and consideration. Those who choose not to vote are the biggest fools of all, and ye shall reap what you do not sow.
Local 2 is not perfect by a long shot, but the E.B. does have long tenured members who are respected by the City's negotiating team, and it shows. just sayin'

You got shit on publicly by Emanuel begging for 11% and getting 10% while fire got 11% without having to shit on themselves for 2% healthcare in retirement.

And as for your me too clause? That doesn't give you shit besides the 1% Emanuel just embarrassed you out of, you're still gonna eat the shit on your 2% insurance premiums pal because your me too clause doesn't get you shit but a salary match.

Fire will get their 55 and out with 0, and you will pay 2%, and your me too clause can't do shit about it.

And your great "reopened"? Emanuel shit on you there too and you dipshits ate it right up didn't you? You signed away all rights to sue against illegal healthcare legislation increases dumbass.... you think you're gonna get shit when you "reopen" your contract you're a bigger fool than it took to give away 2% retiree healthcare..... which will be taken away from you in short order and there's nothing you can do when it happens.

that's because it's illegal to negotiate pension related issues with an active employee employment contract.

Pensions are NOT a collective bargaining issue.

*******

Of course we take the deal.... 11 percent and 55% out in a shit economy while city revenue continues to drop doesn't take a genius to understand.

All employees getting 2% in the current economy should consider it a fair deal or better.

When the casino shows up, Emanuel makes more money. And when the next contract comes up THAT'S when the raises get bumped up, assuming the country hasn't been crashed by then.

We just need to ensure Emanuel doesn't attempt to legislate upping the retirement age to 55 to get it to happen, which I guarantee you he's trying to get us to take right about now. Better than 25% of this department is in that bracket that can retire now or in the very near future. You can bet Emanuel's gonna try and exploit that into dividing us into shitting on ourselves for another 5 years for the same benefit level.

FOP better be on it all the way, and be prepared to fight any changes to our pensions.

Here are the facts:

The Chicago Firefighters Union Local 2 has reached a tentative agreement with the City of Chicago with regards to our expired contract. While some minor issues still need to be finalized, we believe that this agreement is a fair settlement for both sides.

Pending final approval by the Local 2 membership, the agreement features the following:

· The duration of the agreement is 5 years, ending in 2017

· Pay raises of 11%

· 11% increase in Duty Availability pay

· 1% increase in pay for cross-trained FF/EMT-B's and FF/EMT-P's

· Members applying for the Age 55 Healthcare benefit and retiring beginning in the year 2015 will now pay 2% of their annuity for the coverage

· All of the 15 current Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances will be converted to Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances beginning September 1st 2014. These converted ALS ambulances will be staffed with 2 single-role Paramedics. In addition, a committee will be formed to assess the need of adding additional ALS ambulances in the future

· Apparatus and staffing levels remain unchanged

When all necessary changes are made by the attorneys, the agreement will then be sent out to our Local 2 membership for your consideration.

Responsible Approach Ensures Firefighters and Paramedics are Fairly Compensated and Taxpayers are Protected; Includes Retiree Contributions for Healthcare Mirroring Similar Sworn Contracts

CHICAGO--(ENEWSPF)--April 10, 2014. Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced today that the City of Chicago and Chicago Firefighters Union Local 2 have agreed upon a tentative contract proposal.

"The men and women of the Chicago Fire Department love our city and go to work every day to keep us safe," said Mayor Emanuel. “After months of negotiation, we have reached an agreement that is a responsible and fair approach that ensures that our firefighters and paramedics are compensated for their hard work and our residents are protected with a fair wage proposal.”

The new collective bargaining agreement announced today is the culmination of more than 24 months of negotiations between the Emanuel administration and the Firefighters Union.

“The Chicago Fire Department is committed to providing the highest quality service to our residents and visitors throughout the city. This contract will allow us to continue our mission going forward,” said Commissioner Jose Santiago.

Once ratified by the members of the union, the five-year collective bargaining agreement phases-in an 11 percent pay increase; maintains eligibility for retiree health care at age 55, but requires future retirees to contribute 2 percent of their retirement annuity toward their benefit; and provides for an upgrade by the Fire Department of its remaining 15 Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances to Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances, making all 75 Chicago Fire Department (CFD) ambulances ALS vehicles.

“We were pleased to work with the union on this plan which enhances our Emergency Medical services providing the highest level of care for all callers,” said Mayor Emanuel.

The terms included in this agreement include compromises that will support firefighters and paramedics as well as lead to savings for city taxpayers.

Retiree Healthcare
Under the proposal, starting in 2015, members who elect to retire between the ages of 55 and 59, and remain in the active employees' medical program will – for the first time – contribute 2 percent of their annuity.

Conversion of BLS to ALS Ambulances
The proposed agreement converts 15 Basic Life Service (BLS) ambulances to Advance Life Service (ALS) ambulances, allowing the City to have Advanced Emergency Medical Service transport ability on every call. Additionally, this will free up 90 firefighters to work on trucks and engines. There are currently 60 ALS ambulances and 15 BLS ambulances.

Wages
Under the proposed agreement, members would receive an 11 percent increase over a five-year period, beginning July 1, 2012. The breakdown of increases is as follows:

July 2012: 2 percent
January 2013: 2 percent
January 2014: 2 percent
January 2015: 1 percent
January 2016: 1 percent
July 2016: 2 percent
January 2017: 1 percent

The proposed five year contract would begin, retroactively, on July 1, 2012 and expire on June 30, 2017.

The terms of the agreement must be approved by the Union’s full membership as well as the City Council.

Police officers usually beat cfd met and paramedics to a call , cross train police , supply a first aide kit and give us a 7% pay raise for having a skill as a paramedic .
Firefighters are a tough group, strong union , rahm was afraid of a strike like the teachers . Teachers pimp slapped the ballerina dancer. Firefighters also have requirements that every truck is manned , not like our police districts one man cars , no wagon , cars down.
You never see a one man garbage truck , light bulb changer in Chicago , suburbs work fine with one man crews . Time to demand that money not spent one all two man cars , shortage of supervisors be placed in our pension fund .
Where is that money going ?

No because of the taxes, because of the relationships you (should be build(ing) with your community, we are looked to as leaders. If youre not, youre doing it wrong. 60-70% of this job is going down the shitter, pensions included, but residency is not the problem. Dont tell me about how they want our taxes. There are not enought police and fire to even make a dent in taxes. Teachers on the other hand, 26k of them. There are probably 16k police and fire combined.

According to what I read, the insurance stays the same for 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. Rahm said that the city will be out of the insurance business in 2016 when this contract expires. Everyone, (I assume except the mayor and alder creatures), will than be placed into his buddy's obamacare. He has already taken the steps by changing state statutes last year and this year where the pension funds will no longer pay for insurance premiums and other good things, "for the children"! Keep distracting people with the residency crap......
